Actually ,last summer i applied for a position offered in that company, but to my bad luck when they called I was on vacation outside of usa ,so i tried to explain them and said i wanted to make an appoinment when i was back in the states . the reply i got was that they needed to interview me right away and they couldn't wait one week( i was suppose to be back in a week from my vacation!!!) ...so, i really never got the chance to see what was the job about , but all this just told no such good things from a company that can not wait few days to interview you... later i saw the same posting for the same position i applied!!!! and it's been posted since then !!!! so , what was the urgency to want me interview me right away when you have had the posting forever !!!!!!!!???????????????

I went in for an interview, but just got up and walked out during the "test". They ask all kinds of personal questions on the test. They phrase questions in an academic type of politically correct way, to see if you respond in the politically correct fashion. The whole process was dehumanizing, they seem like nazis collecting data for their punch-card computers. Like they want to upload your soul into their database. They are really a creepy company.

I've actually worked for another division of Nielsen in NY and I have a completely different experience. They hiring process took a while- they seem to be very lax. The work environment however was wonderful! They do not keep track of your in/out time b/c they work on the honor system and it's a fun and relaxed environment. Dress code was "business casual" but fridays are "dressed down" days but are totally casual. I was sorry I had to leave!

Sir, being just a passing observer it could be that they did indeed hire someone, but the person just did not work out for some reason. Also someone else may have moved or switched jobs in the company. Just because there is another posting does not mean the position you were looking for was not filled. Sincerely,
Andrew

The reason for an ASAP interview has to do with odd mid managment ( I'm being kind) If they rushed you and the position was still vacate that should say it all. Look for an other company. That is unless you what to work look hours, low pay, no future and turn over.

Thou there are a number of job offerings on the Nielsen web site, there is a company wide hiring freeze. We are currently in the first wave of layoffs with more expected on May 14th!

I heard that also. I worked in the Dunedin, FL call center for over a year. I also have a friend who's husband works in the upper vip position and he has mentioned that they are having trouble keeping up with the new technology upgrades. They have been working with systems that are outdated and their clients are demanding upgrades.

That is correct indeed. They have no consistency regarding proper procedures for all departments. I saw employees be written up without merit and lots of mistakes in that area which they just seemed to not be bothered with correcting any of those issues. They are a tight group from Manager on up. They also seem to have only promoted from within. I worked there about 1 year....so their ya go!

I was recently let go for no reason. They fire everyone eventually. Their style is use you till you start to make more money, then fire and rehire at lower pay!! I would never recommend them. Sorry

just got done with 12 years with Nielsen. Just let go!! I was a good hard working employee who was never in trouble. They just "cleaned house" in the Cinti Market. Got rid of the expensive guys for new inexpensive ones. No loyalty to long term employees. They were sold 3 - 4 times over my tenure and every time the company got worse and worse to work for. They used to care about family and the employee. They used to cheer for all the experienced reps. Now its all about the $$$$$.. If you last long enough you will be fired. That is their style.

Well, Nielsen was on solid ground with MK2 metering solution. They are not anymore. The A/P system is not very reliable. The company is in trouble. The costs to fix the problems are astronomical!!! they could go under!

Just had a buddy put in his 2 weeks at Nielsen. He was asked to look for people to fire. Its all a budget thing. Bring in new "cheaper" guys. Disgusting practice!! shooting themselves in the foot. loosing all the experience. Don't be surprised if Nielsen comes crumbling down LOL. They reap what they sowe

I believe that if you are willing to blindly commit, that this is the place for you. Independant thinkers, educated people; RUN, do NOT walk, as FAST as you can AWAY from this employer. Take a careful look at the number of years (or lack thereof) current employees are with this company, and ask yourself WHY??? My advice to any sane/rational individual is DO NOT WASTE your time & talent here. My only regret is not investigating this company enough & finding this forum too late.

I currently work for Nielsen, we've had a lot of lay offs, and it's been pretty scary. I don't know if I would really reccommend someone to work here. I only work here because I enjoy the people on my team. When I first started, it was a really cool place to work, they wanted you to succeed, and they helped you to do so, but everything was pretty lax and the environment was great. Over time, its just gotten worse. Everyday I feel like I have to go in there and give them my soul. People on the phone yell and scream at you, they curse at you and you're just expected to let it roll off your back. It gets really hard to do that sometimes and if you're having a bad day the higher ups don't really care as long as you get those numbers resolved.

Thank you for your input. Your response seems like most of the ones i've read. I read that they are one of the worlds biggest market research firms. and there profits last year did pretty well despite the depreciation in the dollar and the sup prime problem. Why is it they do so well if company moral is so bad?

Also, What division do you work in? i wonder if it is different in different offices or its like that company wide. I would probably be working out of the chicago office if i get the job.

do you know what the initial phone interview is like with Nielsen

thanks again

Kash

Hello jengler in KY,
Well I'm sure it wasnt ever personal your boss wanting you to produce. Thanks for letting him know he was "cool" at first. But from what I know it's a production driven company. You have to meet your target numbers. From what I know the company gives employees several months, which you probably were given, to meet those numbers. They never let producers go, and MR's who don't produce are given a lot of time, months, to get there numbers back up. Maybe when your boss was getting on you to produce he was trying to help you "SAVE" your job and not let you go. I know he really enjoyed your personality and your positive ways. Who knows maybe this was the spark you needed to find something you really love doing everyday. Good luck. And just know your "boss" was never coming at you personally because he really wanted you to succeed and stay with Nielsen.

I could not agree more with you. The key words are: "Independent thinkers, educated people; RUN, do NOT walk, as FAST as you can AWAY from this employer." They just want a bunch of young kids, fresh out of college, grateful simply to have a job, and all too willing to say "yes sir: and "no sir" for a joke of a salary. Critical thinking is not only not encouraged, it gets you written up as being "unprofessional".

BASES, the company that hired me before the takeover by the creepy Carlyle Group, no longer exists. It was taken over by greedy rageaholic capitalists (e.g., one strutting little Lebanese-American megalomaniac named Mitch Habib, who gutted Citicorp's rank and file, before doing the same at GE) with an eye only to the bottom line and keeping their employees on the barest wages possible, all the while loading up on new executive hires who fill up the parking garages with their Jags, Mercedes and BMWs, and sending as many jobs and departments offshore to a haplessly inept bunch of Indians (TCS). (Their ineptitude would be funny if it didn't wreak so much havoc and trouble for stateside people.) Thousands of heads rolled as departments were eliminated and sent offshore to India. Many people left ahead of the axing, disgusted with the way employees were being treated and with the new corporate policies. Meanwhile, among those who remain, fear-based toadying and CYA posturing, as well as favoritism, mediocrity and incompetence man the ship. They are facing employment discrimination lawsuits. STAY AWAY FROM NIELSEN.
