Do you work at Nordstrom? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

I actually had applied over the internet, and low and behold, the next day I got a call for an interview.

Timings everything, I was just lucky when I applied.

This information was very helpful, I just had my phone interview today and go in for my face to face interview Monday. I have been eying Nordstrom for some time. At the age of 17 I owned my own online store and read the book "The Nordstrom Way" it inspired me to work for this company I found that their practices were like on other company.

Actually Nordstrom employees are paid $10.00 per hour OR a commission, whichever is higher. But the last post is right. If you want to last in this company, then your goal should always be to exceed your sales goal and to earn a lot more than what you would get paid by the hour.

You must accumulate at least 129 work hrs for 3 months consecutively before you can be accepted in the program and you must enroll within 30 days of employment and whenever you meet the quota you will be accepted in the program BUT if in the 4th month you don't work 129 hrs you'll be dropped and if you do make your 129 hrs in month 5 you'll be picked back up again with out having to re-enroll. So your coverage will fluctuate depending on your hours.

thank you! 129 hours a month/33 hours a week Is kind of an odd number, I wonder how they came up with that!

Dress2Impress in Washington, District of Columbia said: You only need to apply online on Nordstrom's IRecruitment website. Post a resume and look for available positions in your area using the search criteria. I work at Nordstrom and this is what I did to get hired. Be aware that sales associates are paid a commission ONLY. That means, you will only get a percentage of the total amount of money that you earned during the 2-week pay period. If it's busy and you're selling a lot during this time, your pay checks are big. If there's not a lot of business and you're selling next to nothing, your paychecks are really low, es. Most people can't base their livelihood on this type of income instability. That's why eventually they look for salaried positions that pay by the hour.

****this is not the case in all areas in Seattle you get a guaranteed base pay

None of that applies to working at the Nordstrom Rack. It's a sweatshop. It's not a commission job but the managers push you to sell and open new accounts every 5 minutes that you're on the floor. If we don't get as many new accounts as they want us to, they cut our hours in half or more. They also chant "let's make the day, let's make the month!" What do we get if we do? Nothing. What do the managers get? A money bonus. And again, if we don' make the month, OUR hours get cut. Not theirs. THe managers make it a habit to not socialize with us, don't eat in the lunch room with us, and clearly make it noticed to us they feel they are above us. They don't put any trust in us no matter how long we've worked they. We're told we can't talk to each other on the floor.

Nordstrom pay well, but you will earn your wages and some. Just have those things in mind. I think you can have a successful career there if you are willing to jump through the hoops that are valued to them. Every job has it's pros and cons.

I have a Nordstrom Rack in a nearby shopping mall. I applied for a bunch of seasonal positions since I'm just trying to get any job I can find and expand my skills. I have an interview there tomorrow and will probably swing by the store today to try and get a feel for the location. I also want to observe the dress code, as I understand I'm to dress professionally, even though all I have for the interview is a dress shirt, dress pants, and black sneakers. Wish me luck, gang. I'll probably write a follow-up.

How long does it take for them to get back to you after a successful phone screen? I was invited to an in-store interview, but was told that they'd have to call me back 'later' because the interview dates for my store were not yet confirmed.

An update for everyone - they got back to me about the in person interview about 30min ago! So that only took about 24 hours. Hope this helps anyone else wondering what to expect.

I had an interview with Nordstrom almost two years ago after finishing my junior year of college. For any current college students, if a Nordstrom rep attends your school's job fair, definitely stop by their table and get a business card! I'd applied to Nordstrom in the past and never heard back (but I also had no prior job experience those times). I was able to use the kind woman as a reference and emailed her exactly which position I applied to and the location, and a few days later, I was invited in for an interview.

The interview went well, but I made the stupid mistake of saying that I couldn't work a specific weekend due to volunteering, and of course it was the weekend of their biggest summer sale. So of course I didn't get hired. My excuse is that I'd only had one interview before that (it was a group interview at that).

How many applicants without prior retail/sales experience have been called in for interviews and/or hired?

I got an email to schedule a phone interview which lasted about 2 minutes and was scheduled for an in person interview the next day. I was interviewed by two very nice lady's and after was told to wait for my interview with 2 more ladies and was told I would be called within 72 hours if I got the job. Having to do the interview with 4 people instead of 2 mean I wasn't good at the first one ?

Exact same thing happened to me. I think it was just to see if all the department managers like you. Have you heard back from them yet? (It's already been 72 hours).

I have not even received a call or an email back. That is unfortunate... I personally thought the interview went quite well. How did yours go?

If it's been more than 72 hours try calling them to see what's going on. I realized my mistakes as soon as I said them but I knew there was no going back but overall it wasent too bad.

Yeah I've sent an email to the HR. I know, it happens. I am certain I said somethings that were concerning as well regarding my experiences. It seemed pretty competitive. A great experience though considering we spoke to 4 department managers.

You can try to call the number that they called to interview/remind you of your interview as well.

No, but my friend who is in a similar position has gotten an interview again tomorrow at Westin. This means they are still holding interviews so I guess that is the reason why they haven't gotten back yet. Also, Nordstrom has removed all the sales associate positions on their jobpage.

I had an online interview....and I have now been invited for a face to face interview...what was that process?? Is it just another round of interview questions or does that mean I basically have the job?? I was sent links so they can run a background check before I came in to the interview.
