Applying for Jobs Online

I'm a master's student in Mechanical Engineering and looking for entry level jobs in NG's career website. Just about every recruiter from any company tells me to tailor my resume to the specific job. NG's candidate profile page just has one place to copy and paste one text based resume. If the recruiting staff just looks at what has been copy and pasted into the resume box, how am I going to tailor to a specific job when I apply to multiple ones? Most of the time the resume that's in the box is the scanned version from the hard copy I gave a recruiter at a job fair or info session.
