In a very large company such as NG, there are tons of HR staff and job locations. Does it matter precisely who my cover letter is addressed to? Do I need to conduct a retarded amount of research just to figure out the exact address of the position I am applying for? And who the HR Manager is there? Or is it more centralized with headquarters or such?

If your not sure of the person your sending to it is proper to address your cover letter as Dear Hiring Manager.
