I got lucky..I put an ad on Craiglist and got a room w/ bed, tv,furniture and cable ...all bills paid $325. Its 11 minute bus ride from the airport with views of SEATAX and Mt Rainer (sp)? I am excited now.. |

To all my "woulda been" classmates. I am sad to tell you guys that I called NWA to withdraw from the 0429 class (Class 12) due to personal reasons. It sure was a tough decision to make. I was really looking forward to the training and meeting all of you. Unfortunately, it will not happen this time. Wish you all the best and hope to see you all in the sky one day. Thank you all for advice and very helpful info. By the way, I won't go far from NWA. Keep me posted on the training. |

Thanks Mike. There is always a reason for every decision we make. I was a bit bummed out but I did what I thought was the best choice for me. Anyway, all best wishes to all of you. Keep in touch! |

krazyQ in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota said: I have to go for finger printing for Compass airlines on monday, then she said that once my background check and my drug test clears(which will, no doubt) then they will send my stuff to the head quarters and if they like me They will sign me up for training which starts around May 25th I think. Perhaps you ought to check the board to see where Compass potentials are posting. My guess is that they could be of much better help then we can as we are preparing for NWA. |

hey Nora Havent heard from you in a while. Howz th elast minute going? I am doing my revision on the cd and my bags are all packed and ready to go. i see you are from Michigan too. that makes the two of us. What are your plans for seattle. have you found a crash pad yet? i am communicating to two people, I hope i succeed. i hope to transfer back to either DTW or MSP ASAP so I could forget about crash pads altogether. |

Just something for everyone to think about. I know we probably all want to get back "home" ASAP. However, I think we may get better trips in SEA (98% international and lots to HNL) and become senior faster. It's just something to think about. I know I thought that way when they first changed base but I'm going to see it out for awhile before I make a decision. I've found in this first week of training you truly take "one day at a time" and don't make any plans or rash decisions. Look forward to meeting you all maybe next week! It's kind of hard to connect since they keep the classes separate but we may meet in the cafeteria. Oh, and get used to climbing stairs to the 3rd floor training rooms! |

Actually, SEA is a very senior base. It seems to me that reserve will be much longer there, and those with the seniority will certainly be bidding and holding those coveted international lines. Remember, SEA is not a "new" base, quite contrary. It is and always has been a very senior base for all airlines. Also, the idea of commuting so far while you are on reserve & probabtion....kinda crazy. Good luck with that! |
|
Nora in Grand Blanc, Michigan 7 months ago |
Hey Gina! I have been so busy, I just packed up two bags and I swear it seems like I don't have a lot of clothes. I am so curious as to how the training will be and what SEA base is like, I heard that it is one of the nicest bases to be assigned to. I can't wait to finally get to MSP and get started. I tried to go over my CBT but could not open the files, am I doing something wrong? |

Best of luck to all going to the training this Tuesday. Have a safe trip there and back home. Your wings are within reach now...go get them. |

Remember, SEA is not a "new" base, quite contrary. It is and always has been a very senior base for all airlines. I never said that SEA was a new base. It has been closed for a long time. Many FA's retired or took buyouts so that is why it opened up. That, along with the fact that they are adding int'l. flights from SEA and that it is a very small base in comparison to the hubs, enabled them to open it up again and need staff. I'm just reiterating some of the things we've been told in training. Perhaps you are in SEA? Maybe you know better than the instructors. None of us have a choice as to what base we have been assigned and we are trying to be positive and make the best of it. No one plans on "commuting" to work each day. I think most people are planning on crashpads and trying to get home once a month or so. It's all new to us so maybe you would like to share some POSITIVE, encouraging advice with us. Thank you. |

Nora I wonder what went wrong with your cd. I am revising myself. i packed two bags. One full of clothes and one with shoes and cant seem to have packed enough for six weeks either. I have a roller board tote. I wonder how I will get all that luggage around MSP airport. LOL. What time are you getting to MSP? My flight is at 9.45am and get there same time. By the way, yes SEA is a very nice base to be based at. especially with the International flights. I will have to transfer ASAP just for the mare fact that i am married and have to be home with my husband. Those were the conditions for me accepting this offer and I truly understand. Only been married a year. I am just happy that not too many people seem to want to transfer so I could have a better chance of doing so myself. Let me get back to the cd. Will see you tomorrrrrow |

Remember, SEA is not a "new" base, quite contrary. It is and always has been a very senior base for all airlines. We are going to do what we have to do including awkward, time-consuming and sometimes, difficult commutes. The opportunity to go to SEA is clearly a new adventure for all of us. We don't know quite what to expect. With flight cutbacks and fuel costs skyrocketing it seems only prudent to make the best of what has been offered. Us newbies need hours and experience. We are grateful for the chance to show we can be valuable additions to NWA. I am very sure that we have a lot to learn and will need the help of FA mentors along the way. To say, "Good luck with that!" is a bit over the top for me. I accept it as one of many challenges in this new experience for me. I will do the necessary commuting while on reserve and probation. It isn't as if any of us are disillusioned to think we will be home every night to warm our feet by the fireplace. We are here because we want to be here and will do what we have to do to make it work. |

I guess I'm too dumb to understand.....I don't know who you are....haven't seen you post before but this forum has been nothing but friendly and helpful until you made a post. I'll not be participating in this forum from here on out. Negativity doesn't get anyone anywhere. I wish you all well. |

Hey Mike...I can completely relate-my son told me this afternoon that he does not want me to go. I have been a flight attendant prior to this, so I am fully aware of all that goes with it. I'm glad to hear I am not the only one having second thoughts! The economy is so bad, I hate the thought of being furloughed-for sure can't really afford to be flight attendant....firmly in my blood so to speak-HELP!!!!Anyone else??? I have until 3:30 am to figure it out I guess:( |

Hey Everyone I completely understand the anxiety everyone has about taking this position, it is definetely a big decision but if you don't go you will always be wondering what if, one things for sure is that there are no guarantees in any career in todays market so you might as well do something that makes you happy. Planejane, I completely understand how you feel about leaving your son, I had to saw goodbye to my 3 year old today, but I'm leaving her in very capable hands (my dear husband and mother), I'm from a big military family and we're use to separations Hope to see you all there! |

Gina, I will be in MSP at around 1:10 p.m., can't wait to meet you guys I don't think there will be any problem in transferring because someone on reserves in DTW would probably jump at the opportunity to get SEA See ya soon! |

So they have more training classes now Krazy? The last class was suppose to be April 29th! Also they have to get the CD to you 30 days a head of time...it will just take you about 8-10 hours to do it. Good luck |

Good luck well just to make things clear, this if for Compass airlines that's merged with NWA, maybe I should stop posting here to stop confusing everyone although everyone over here is very responsive and helpful. And what "CD" are you talking about Mike? |
|

It must be a NWA thing..yes I was confused...thought it was NWA not Compass! |

krazyQ in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota 7 months ago |
Well isn't NWA merging with Delta? How does this effect the airline companys that are merged with NWA?(Compass, Mesaba, etc)? And is there a contract with these companies? Can you quit whenever you want? |
