I had applied for the flight attendant position, but I would be gone for too long a time, away from my family, so I chose not to go that route. But since there is so much negetive press about NWA, I'm wondering are all the major airlines in the same shape. I'm speaking in terms of customer service, low wages? etc.

Apply to Continental. Good company and they start at $18.00 p/hr plus per diem.
They are currently hiring.

Northwest starts at $17.25 (or some cents) that is more than the average family lives off. It will be the most I have ever made and my kids go to private school, I have a home, car, food, insurance, and some money saved. People lie on these forums and it reflects real life. See for yourself. Ask questions and do your own research into any position.

Obviously the person that is referring to the $17.25 does not realize it is "flight hours" and not a regular 40 hour work week. You have an hourly guarantee monthly but take $17.25 for instance times 80 hours in a month and that equals only $1,380 monthly plus per diem, etc. Depending upon the number of hours you fly your per diem will average approximately $300 monthly. Some of it is not taxed. Then you will need to deduct taxes from your hourly pay, uniform payments which are $50 monthly, union dues once you are qualified, insurance, etc. Sorry, but the average family needs way more than what you end up with to live off of. I know because I have been a flight attendant. It is not impossible but you just have to either have a second job, fly for an airline that allows you to pick up extra flights on your days off, be married, collect child support or have a comfy savings account. It is a really great job if you work for the right airline. Frontier is really great as I know someone that works there and they start at $21.00 per flight hour. Good luck to you.

Actually I realize it is flight hours. I do not understand rdue, ignorant, and pushy people. If you have no interest why are you on this forum? I see your posts EVERYWHERE bashing NWA. Let people who are interested have an intelligent discussion. Anyone who would let an anonymous person online dictate their lives is a moron. Do your own research. It isn't slavery. If you don't like it you can resign.

Don't go to NWA if you are trying to make a living.

Funny.. NO way you can be paying for all of that on NWA flight attendants pay. Sorry to bust peoples bubbles but ASK THIS ONE QUESTION OF NWA when ur in your face to face interview. HOW LONG IS MY RESERVE TIME? NWA layed off 1400 FA's when they went into chapter 11. They recalled all 1400 when they came out and started rehiring. Less than 200 returned. You do the math.
