AS a former NorthCentral / Republic / Northwest Employee with 36 years experience. Opened the Indy station under Republic and see all the CRAP that
NWA did to its Employees system wide . Do you think
CUSTOMER SERVICE MEANS anything to them ? They would just assume have everthing totally automatic -- Self check in and GOD HELP the Customer when the flights are delayed , cancelled or their baggage didn't arrive with them. All NWA cares about is the BOTTOM LINE .

When the Customer has had enough and starts looking else where to spend their dollar ..ONLY THEN .. and all to late will NWA figure out the bottom line was CUSTMOER SERVICE .

DITTO! Do yourself a favor and pick another airline. NWA treats their customers horribly and their employees worse.

Northwest treats its employees like dirt. It is a sweatshop environment. The starting pay of 9 per hour is not worth the juob and the treatment you will receive

I worked for NWA for nearly 10 years and it was a great company to work for. Any business that operates 24/7 has a demanding work environment. But for those with a strong work ethic, company pride, and the willingness to be flexible, airline careers are a great way to make a living. As with any workplace, you get back what you put out. I'm sure your wealth of customer servie experience would be a great asset to NWA. Good luck in your job search!

My question would be ....What Department did you work ?

Ever work Baggage Service when the up line station failed to board any luggage ? Ticket Counter slinging over weight baggage and trying to collect for those charges and your the only one on the counter trying to continue to check 60 people in for a flight leaving in 40 minutes ? Departure gates with 148 people wanting to board a 120 seater air craft ? Run to meet an international flight on the ground on the other side of the airport because your short staffed and leaving a line of folks wanting to check in

I put 38.5 years in and management lied to us. The last 10 years they would tell us we were their greatest asset and we were family but then turned and dumped on the employees while patting themselves on the back and giving the upper management raises and bonuses . Try 13+ years ago when we took STOCK FOR PAY to bail them out and when it came right down to the wire .... They lied and said they WOULDN'T pay us ....

Management sold their stock holdings just weeks before taking the company into bankruptcy. Why hasn't someone call that INSIDER TRADING ? After all Martha went to jail for it !

COMPANY PRIDE --- Oh please GET REAL! --- That’s OLD SCHOOL !

Flexible as in forced overtime, denied leave for emergency problems with family because there was no one else to work. The great airline career ended when the lawyers took over the company and the GREAT pay scale was put in place by them after they filed claiming they couldn't go on under UNION WORK RULES. Now that they have farmed out the "GREATEST ASSET " and YOUR WILLING to work for $9 an hour ....Those wages were paid in 1966 . Try supporting a family on that!

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME-UNLESS YOU LIKE ABUSE-PAYCUTS-MANAGERS TREATING YOU LIKE A LITTLE KID AND NOT KNOWING IF YOUR JOB IS SECURED. I worked for Northwest in Reservations for 13 years until they closed the office and had the option to move to a different state. That was a blessing in disguise. My friends who moved are now making less money, because of paycuts. Upper management have no respect after saying work harder and you're doing great, they get bonuses when we sell. They're the ones getting the extreme bonuses. The paycuts should start with them. Go to JOBVENT.COM and you'll see all the bad companies Northworst in the top 5. I too was apart of the stock for pay to save the company. The CEO and board sold their stock and after that the stock went down. They should have all went to prison like Martha S. did for inside trading. True, you get flight benefits, but it's not worth it. You could get a higher paying job and buy your ticket and be confirmed on that flight and not go stand-by and unsure if you'll get on. TAKE OUR ADVICE OR NOT...

Your comment was very helpful to me. I filled out an application on line and had the interview (flight attendant) then was told that I could be gone for 3 to 4 to 7 days on a flight. I have a daughter at home and I didn't want to be gone for a long period of time. Then I applied for another position, Reservations (MN), I live in Michigan, I really don't know how that would work out, but I thought that it would be better than the flight attendent position. Is Northwest really that bad? I wanted the position for the perks, but you say, I'm better off paying for my ticket???

OMG!!

Picture it - It’s the weekend before the Big 4th of July Holiday . You’re a Flight Attendant Stuck in a city you hadn’t planned to be in because the flight crews ran out of time. If your lucky to get home on any NWA flight you’ll have to deadhead and it Will have to be space available. The Planes are packed with very upset and angry passengers. So you know that you don’t fly in Uniform , if asked who you work for you tell people you SELL whole Life insurance. If your lucky to get on a flight it won’t be anything comfortable , like an aisle or window seat. Seniority will take the Jump seat. If your a Reservationists Not only are you going to answer angry phone calls for passengers at the airport but also from all over the system. You’ll get calls from the on-line booking passengers that used Orbitz, Cheap Tickets , Expedia , Price-line that booked their own tickets or may have used a Travel Agent but ALL are told to all you in reservations because ….. They bought their ticket on YOUR AIRLINE and YOUR expected to fix it. Of course FIX IT without a charge , listening to their demands that you put them into FIRST CLASS for their trouble.

Yes ….An airline career is a WONDERFUL LIFE .
Did you stop to figure out what an Airline career will cost you ?
You take your basic Pay and subtract , Federal , State and Local taxes . Then Subtract your Monthly Union Dues & your fee to join the union , Okay so you want Medical Coverage and that’s take out every paycheck . That Company Uniform is going to cost you. The quality isn’t what you would find in a K-Mart but the price is 3 times what you would pay . About the 3rd dry cleaning or washing you’ll see the lining fall out or the blouse / shirt become thread bare . Buttons are always fall off . Now your required to buy shoes approved by the company and you will always have a neat appearance for the public so plan on a trim at least once a month. Okay so you’re a little disappointed with your first TAKE HOME CHECK but hey after your car payment , GAS , Insurance , Rent and don’t forget you want to EAT … Remember the company frowns on Second Jobs because you will be at their Beck and Call .

I'm thinking about working for Customer Service @ Northwest Airlines. Can you give me some idea what the interview questions are like. I will be asked questions over the phone. Also after what I'm reading I don't think I really want to work for Northwest Airline. I thought it would be a lil better than Mesaba. Now that is the worst place to work. I moved from Ramp Agent to Catering. They treat us horrible.

Thank you for your valued comment. I really appreciate you getting back to me. I have made up my mind. I'm going elsewhere, out of the airline industry.

Thanks again!

I agree as often as I fly I have been treated very badly at the airport and with customer service. I cannot blame the customer service agent because the airline should realize they get what they pay for. the airline needs to wake up because they will get the worst customer service agents because these people will not take the abuse any longer.

I applaud people who write about low pay, por benefits, cut housrs to avoid medical dental coverage. What is a family going to live on if workers on living on the street and look deshelved comming to work cranky with poor attitude Mangement.

Wake up Airlines and treat your employees with respect. You get more with honey than with vinegar.
