What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable?

How does Office Depot stack up against the competition?

Not a great atmosphere in this office. They don't have their act together. Plus the VP is a witch with a B. Don't waste your time.

They are generally fairly laid back. However, they have little interest in their employees and will get rid of you at their whim.

Company does NOT know how to perform Custemer Service in this day and age. Thus, Staples who is very good at CS is 'eating their lunch' - Office Depot is very arrogant and thinks that what they say goes. Not any more as falling sales show it.

Very good place to work as long as you know that there is no security

spent 8 years there, at a great store... the other 7 stores in the distric however were horrible... Shareholders are only worried about their all mighty dollar... Laid off 2500 employees a few years ago and bought Carl Edwards...

The recent RE expansion was used to boost net book worth and as a reason to expand in Europe. The book adjustment has been very conservative. There is at least one group of investors who have recently acquired a 10% interest in the company that may feel that it is undervalued. Performance wise, the paper companies are not seeing a drop in business which would be indicative of recession. My thought is that the stimulus will increase short term demand due to decutibility of expense at 100%. This should increase bottom line profit for ODP. The stock was shorted heavily. Near term should see $20, within 2-4 weeks, and a takeover bid.
