Question about Application Process for Bather

When exactly are references contacted? I have never been employed before (college student) but did volunteer work at a zoo since I was 17. I used my supervisor as a reference and at the time, I failed to ask his permission (I know bad and will not happen again!). This application was filled out Sunday night so it's fairly new. Plus I am seeing him in a few days so I will let him know then.

Also I plan to wait until next Monday to walk in at the store I applied and speak with the salon manager if I can. Should I also contact the store manager too or wait until I speak to the salon manager?
