i believe so yes and so are the franchise centers.

When I worked for LA Weight Loss, we as supervisors worked VERY hard to make sure that our employees did not work alone; however there were times when that was impossible. If the work culture hadn't have been so rough on employees, turn over would have been lower, and employees would not have been forced to work alone. Please know that as a supervisor, I did everything I could to help my employees! I started working for LAWL because I truly cared! What happened in the end is a shame!

Weight Loss Plus is the new name for many of the former LA Weight Loss franchises. I was personally told this by the PWL National Director of Training, Randy Skepnik. Also, when I called a franchise once for information on a franchise client to transfer to corporate they were listed as "LA Weight Loss" but answered the phone as "Weight Loss Plus."

Pa. seeks to freeze assets of diet chain

Pennsylvania's attorney general yesterday filed to freeze the assets of Pure Weight Loss, a now-defunct diet chain based in Horsham, and of Vahan Karian, the company's owner.
Karian is accused of misappropriating consumer funds from Pure Weight Loss for his own benefit and of diverting money to other businesses.

"We feel this is an important step in safeguarding these assets," said Nils Frederiksen, deputy press secretary for the Attorney General's Office.

Karian, he said, filed personal liens against Pure Weight Loss beginning in October "which in bankruptcy court placed him ahead of consumers to the tune of approximately $250,000."

The Attorney General's Office believes Karian diverted money to Rain Skin L.L.C., a company that operated for only three weeks. The state is trying to identify other companies Karian may have owned and has asked the court to help it identify Karian's other financial assets and prevent Karian or others under his control from moving his money.

Yesterday's legal action followed a suit Thursday by Attorney General Tom Corbett accusing Pure Weight Loss and Karian of deceptive marketing. According to the state, Pure Weight Loss continued to aggressively market long-term contracts with customers after it was experiencing financial difficulties and, in some cases, even after it had announced that it was closing.

Pure Weight Loss operated from more than 400 locations across the country, including 47 in Pennsylvania. It announced on Dec. 14 that it was closing Jan. 4.

Since then, the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office has received more than 1,000 complaints - 200 of them yesterday - from customers who prepaid for food and diet counseling they have not received. Their claims total nearly $500,000, Frederiksen said.

Basically he filed liens so that when Pure went to bankruptcy court, any money in the co. would go directly to him, not clients not companies he owed money too, not employees wages. That was weaselly. Do the idiots still think he is an innocent pawn?

but since those leins were FILED within the 180 bankruptcy period (meaning he filed on January 10th 2008 so from 180 days prior to that date) the bankruptcy court can investigate the activity of the company and seize those assets!!

GEE.. wondering where all that lien money went.....

it is in the bankruptcy papers i linked days ago. they started in October 2007 through January 8th, 2008. So thay have all the liens and dates.
