I did not leave another company for PWL. As of now I have a few different jobs lined up and PWL was the one that I was leaning more towards.
I just don't understand why they would be hiring if they are closing down in January?
They made it seem that the company is ready to expand and is getting ready to take off. They did mention that the mth of Dec. will be slow but after that there is alot of money to be made with comission + bonuses!

Most likely because those who hired you believed what they said. Those of us in CA were told everything would be okay in January. I was told that on Friday 11/28 and on Mon 11/31 I was told my center was closing 12/8. As you can see by this site all of Pure is closing. So sorry this happened to you. I hope you still can get one of the other jobs. Good luck to you.

Hi.. Unless someone else has any add'l information... according to what I was told, I am preparing a generic refund form for my client's add'l weeks. However, it is going to be detailed as is a normal refund form. If they refund your weeks, I bet they'll be prorated and it may not be an entire one. I don't know how that would be possible.

Also, if someone is there, and I bet they have limited hours as we do, take whatever lites you can get. Even if they aren't your favorite flavors... take them anyway. I am afraid you won't get an entire refund for those.

Okay.. I hope that helps. By the way, if your counselor doesn't offer it, ask for your stabilization, maintenance materials and ask about your drop sequences.. i.e. when you'll drop programs.

Hope that helps!!

For the rest of you, if you need to know the weight when you are due to drop down. It has to do with your height and weight... If you don't know, I have the information.

And, for instance, if you are a shift worker and/or exercise, or even a senior, you'll strictly be blue or red...

Going to work now.. Closing her down.. talk to ya'll soon

Picked up the stablilization materials from a former co-worker.

STABILIZATION:

WEEK 1:
ADD 1 FAT SERVING (choose unsaturated, monosaturated and polyunsaturated most commonly found in vegetable and fish oils such as salmon, olives, nuts

WEEK 2:
ADD 1 FRUIT & 2 VEGETABLE SERVINGS (darker fruits/vegetables are richer in antioxidants; those with skin or seeds are higher in fiber)

WEEK 3:
ADD 1/2 PROTEIN and 1 CONDIMENT (applys to green, gold, purple only)

WEEK 4:
ADD 1 STARCH (choose complex carbs such as oatmeal, whole grain cereal. Complex carbs are higher in fiber which aid in digestion, helps keep you full and may also protect against high cholesterol levels and stabilize elevated blood sugar levels)

WEEK 5:
ADD 1 DAIRY (nonfat and lowfat)

WEEK 6:
Go to the maintenance guide. Add exercise to your regimen. Most will live on the purple plan (with no bars) after they've reached their goal.

EEOC Says Weight Loss Company Discriminated Against Men
A federal court has ruled that the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) may proceed to trial with its class-action lawsuit alleging that L.A. Weight Loss Centers, Inc., discriminated against male applicants, the agency announced.

U.S. District Judge William D. Quarles, Jr., of the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, rejected motions by L.A. Weight Loss Centers (LAWL) to dismiss the case.

The EEOC sued LAWL in February 2002 under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of1964, alleging that the company engaged in a pattern or practice of disparate treatment against men in its recruiting, hiring, and assignment of employees.

In its suit, the EEOC also alleged that LAWL disciplined and ultimately terminated employee Kathy Koch, a trainer with the company, in retaliation for attempting to hire male applicants and for her complaints that LAWL failed to hire qualified male applicants because of their gender.

LAWL recently announced that it is changing its name to Pure Weight Loss, Inc.

I feel for all of you. My mother and her sister were just informed by a friend that they were closing. All the stores in the Kansas City Area are closed expect for the one in Independence. We were told to get the refund in products, because cash will probably not show up. A class action will be filed against the company. I read on another blog that the owner is going to start a Rain Skin company...and wants out from under Pure/LA centers. This a way to rip of the client. We should have known after 20/20 exposed them. I have contacted our local news station. Pure's website has been shut down, guess they don't want anyone contacting. They are probably just hope people forget they existed so they can easily get out with out paying settlements. I say, every member needs to file a suit and put that owner out of bussiness.

The way I understand it guys.. Rain is alive and thriving and it is making him much, much more money then Pure. And, he has used a lot of money from our company to start that one.

They have Rain Centers in many locations now.

In our center, I am taking orders for the types of lites my clients want. There are still lites in the warehouses and they're being shipped to all of the centers. As the orders are filled, I'll be calling my clients.

If we are unable to fullfill all of the orders, my understanding is that the client's getting a refund. I do know that I have to do an OZ count. Meaning... I have to count all of what is owed to people.

loyal employee in Massachusetts said: I have worked at LA/Pure Weightloss for years, and all the negative things said about this company are cruel and only half truths! Yes the company is closing and my heart is breaking for all the wonderful people I worked with who will no longer have jobs. I have a close bond with all of these people, including the owner, who is a brilliant, kind and generous man WHO I WOULD TAKE A BULLET FOR. We are calling the clients and giving them their product and most of them are truly sad because this is the only program that worked for them.....that right there is the most tragic thing in this company closing. That is the effect it has on the clients.
Most of you who post your comments here are self-centered , weak kneed cry babies. You are doomed to go from job to job carping about what could have been done better, instead of considering what more you could have done. Good luck at your next 26 jobs and your inevitable journey through the job market as just another mediocre employee.
.... So please continue to focus on yourselves because I am certain NOBODY CARES!!!

Hey Kelli Peterson why don't you get a hobby. Or better yet get on the program yourself you animal.

I have worked for the company for 2 years and I use to love to my job until things started to go down hill. The turnover was so bad when there was a training class we would actually bet who would stay with the company the longest. I am very sorry for those that lost there job and i understand what you all are going through. I lost my job in october when they laid off the 1st batch of employees and i knew some other things were going to go down. But I stayed positive through out the whole situation and thats what I want all of you guys to do. I understand that Xmas is around the corner but God will make a way for things to work out for all of you. I will keep all of you in my prayers!!!!!!

I agree with you Former Philly. Everything will work out for the employees. Although I'm worried that having Pure Weight Loss on my resume will look very bad to future employers.

I am still bristling over Loyal Employee's use of the terms Brilliant, Generous and Kind (referring to the owner). I just can't associate Brilliance with anyone or thing that uses high-pressure sales tactics to sell a service (it should sell itself if it's so brilliant), deceptive advertising (concealing the truth that you need to spend hundreds on supplements and bars) and high rates of employee turnover. Brilliance is in a class by itself. Brilliance is a company that can develop this boxy thing called a PC and make the world dependent on it. Brilliance is the company that convince an entire generation of people that pay phones and home phones are no longer good enough -- you have to have the cell phone. Brilliance is the musician or movie director that can bring you to tears with music or a motion picture. Brilliance stands the test of time. I think it's proof positive that Pure didn't stand that one. LOYAL: the standards for brilliance are very high. It's in a class by itself. And VERY FEW have ever been in the presence of Brilliance. I'm sad to say, you're not one of them. You can't run an empire into the ground with a staff of people that run scared and still be brilliant.

As for Generous & Kind. Aside from the temper, I would say kindness is true. But everyone who ever worked at corporate knows that Generous is never a word to associate with him. Just try to get an office supply. Even if he'd won the Nobel Peace Prize for generosity, you can't lay off hundreds of people right at Christmas and NOT be considered a villain. You can't stop paying your bills and be generous. That's just the way things are. Feel free to defend. But don't call people whiny and weak-kneed. That's low-ball. Your loyalty doesn't bother me though we find it strange. But please be a person of integrity.

According to this report, it says that only people who enrolled in the last 16 weeks will get cash refunds. How is that even legal?

"For the clients who have recently enrolled within the past 16 weeks, we want to inform you that we will be closing our stores on January 4, 2008. Therefore, we request that you come to the store no later than January 4, 2008 to pick up the products you have purchased."

I left Pure Weight Loss 2 weeks ago and was suprised when my area sup did not make even a tiny effort to get me to stay since I was his only employee in the center. I was not suprised to see the company was bankrupt since all the signs were there. The lites sale every few weeks, huge suppliment specials, the new quote and close with only 3 days to refund. I feel horrible for my clients that really need us and for the ones who are out loads of cash. I am also concerned with how much of my vacation time I am going to get paid for. When I inquired about it after I gave my notice they said I was only getting paid for 2 days when I have 5 days coming. Has anyone else not gotten paid for there earned time off?

I'm thinking a class action lawsuit may be the answer for us former employees that were not paid properly. It has happened to other companies, UC Lending, that I know of for sure. It was filed by former salaried employees that were not paid over time. As a former center manager, my 40 work week was more like 50-58 hours. Just a thought.

I thought his brothers name was Barry and that he was the owner of all franchises still going by the name LA Weight Loss in IN, TN, TX, FL...ect. At least thats what I have been told. Has anyone heard if those centers are closing as well? Also, part of the reason for the name change to Pure was due to a falling out between the brothers.

Am I the only person wondering why this has NOT had any coverage on the national news? Whats up with that? Is it because this industry traditonally caters to women? I have been watching MSNBC and CNN all week...not seen a word about it.

Everyone ... Rain is closed too. There was only one or two locations and after just a month or so, they closed Rain and laid everyone off. The website is still up (it's nice so whoever did it did a good job). But they are all out of work too, just like the rest of us. Call the local number they have listed on the site and it just rings and rings and rings. 309.689.9801

I'm wondering why the Pure shutdown hasn't made national coverage too. And I got stiffed on my paycheck too. I've contacted an attorney and the department of labor in my state.

Great idea. Also, in the class action suit that I know about, the attorny filing was able to get the names of the employees. I did not know anything about it until I was sent a letter from the attorny urging me to participate. I wish now that I would have but at the time was in another management position and didn't feel that I should involve myself in it or that they would see any cash settlement since the company had filed bankruptcy. But I do know one of the employees who did and she got her settlement.
