Textbook in Montrose, Michigan

I just started. I have worked just 8 days total, and have only had 10 calls total in 8 days. Let's use today as an example.

I live in Montrose, Michigan. It a suburb of two nearby cities - Flint and Saginaw. The job listing was on Saginaw's Craigslist. Saginaw is about a half hour away. Unfortunately, the parts location isn't in Saginaw, it's even a little farther north - 45 miles north of Montrose, to be exact.

So, I wake up and have one call, in Sebewaing. I drive 45 miles to Freeland to my parts location. I then drive the 43 miles East to Sebewaing. It takes me a little over an hour, but then I have to run Dell diagnostics and that burns ~15 minutes of my time. Well, no more calls so it's end of the day, and back home. 56 miles South and West from Sebewaing to Montrose.

Total mileage travelled: 144 miles.

Qualxserv covers: 8 miles.

That sound fair to anybody? At ~25mpg and $3.25/gallon coming out of my pocket, that's $18.72 I spent in gas today alone.

$32 + $3.36 (qxs-covered gas) - taxes (which are probably going to just negate the mileage) = $32....

$32 - $18.72 I spent on gas today = $13.28. For four hours of work (2.5 hours driving, 1.5 hours labor).

So, today I made $3.32 per hour. Do you know many people who can live on 13 bucks a day?

Listen man if you are going to work for this company learn to use the tax system to your advantage. Most of what you did in the one day you describe is tax deductible and you will recoup at the end of the year. Also push the box and make this a part time job which it should be. If they say 30 hours hold them to it. In all the paperwork I got from the company it says 30 hoours max it is in writing.

Dylan, (or anyone) I live in Charleston, WV and work for a company that services Dell warranties like Qualxserv. Since you live in Bridgeport, I was wondering if you knew if Qualxserv or some other company services your area: north central, WV. I would like to move up there and my company does not support that area. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

You should try HOTJOBS.COM sarch for Qualxserv and see what pops up. Qualxserv is really a good companyI have been with them for over 10years. As far as a QSP position it is not expected that this would be your full time job however you manage it as if it were your own company. Many QSP's I know have there own PC repair business and they work their non Dell clients inbtween. If your gonna be a repair tech travel is part and parcel of the game. Do it right. create and have your business online, drop your cards off for side services beyond hardware break fix and you willl start to find your client list grow....Just a thought.
