I was a QXS employee for 10 months. Saw an ad on craigslist, and had heard of the company before, some good, some bad, from multiple sources, customers and technicians alike. However, I did not know how deep the rabbit hole went. The ad said Full-Time, hence my quick response to the ad, and so the recruiter called me back, did a phone interview, then, as long as I could pass the pre-employment deal (drug screen, proof of registration, insurance, certifications, etc.) in 10 days, I was good to go. And the deal sounded alright, not super, but decent. 15.00 an hour salaried, no matter how many calls I closed, and mileage over the first 35 miles. Also a bonus after 90 days (600 taxed) and after a year (1000 taxed). Obviously I never made it to my year bonus. :) No benefits, but still a decent deal. And with myself living in a pretty populated region, figured I'd be driving no more than 10 miles to a call. Oh how I was wrong. They were going to start dishing calls out to me right away, because they were way behind. My first 2 weeks of calls were all long distance 50+ miles round trip, on average, and closed 28 calls in my first two weeks. As I complained about how I was being run ragged, they hired another guy, with the same deal as myself, and they told me that the two of us should be able to handle the territory, which was never clearly explained, even after multiple attempts. At about 4 months things seemed to calm down, I was averaging around 15 closed calls a week, and things were pretty steady. It was about this time that I find out that QXS is hiring again, this time for per-call guys. They got two of them, and they start running calls. My calls start dwindling, along with the other technician. Him and I bumped into each other at the parts drop, and exchanged numbers, this was a big problem for QXS, because we could communicate. Now that we could communicate, we found that we were being constantly lied to by our ROS. Given different stories about policies, procedures, and company practices. We were also being harassed about how many calls we were closing, and that the company had to make sure it was cost effective, essentially telling us we had to do so many calls to get the 40hr salaried deal. We both complained to him and our DTS about how QXS hired part timers, who are taking away from our call volume, thus creating why we aren't closing as many calls as we were. At this time, we were averaging around 4-5 calls a week, but still getting the 40hr salary at 15 dollars. After our complaints, this issue suddenly died and didn't hear anything about it again. Life went on as usual for several months, until 3 weeks before christmas, I was informed of a change in management, and that we were getting a new manager. I spoke with this new manager, and he seemed to have his ducks in a row, and I thought maybe things would change for the better. He found that we were owed all the mileage we had driven, even before the 35 mile mark. So he then went to work getting HR to calculate my mileage and cut a check. I was ecstatic. All this, and right before christmas too!! "QXS Rocks" I thought to myself. Again, continued below.... |

A week later, I'm informed by the new manager, that due to restructuring, I was being laid off. They were keeping the other tech that had the same deal as myself, atleast until the new year, from what I was told. This was on a Thursday. They direct deposited my previous weeks check, and overnighted me the check owed for the current week on Friday. I was then told the following Monday that my mileage check was in the mail. It has been two weeks, and I haven't seen it. The other tech, who is still employed, received his check a week ago. This destroyed my christmas, and is nearly destroyed my life, as bills are stacking up, and I still have no money. I applied for unenjoyment the day after my lay off, and due to some circumstance, where QXS claims they laid me off a week before they really did. Essentially making me wait until my state gets it figured out. It's been 4 weeks, with no income of any kind. Funds are all dried up. This is a company that should be avoided at all costs. It is my mission to educate prospective employees and current employees about the practices this company takes place in. Hence why I shared my dreadfully long story. I saw an ad with promise for a future with a great company.....How wrong I was. |

Also, I experienced the mystery of calls disappearing, and my ROS and DTS knowing nothing about it, as well as in my tech stats, it stated there were 6 techs in the area, but yet, nobody knew who these techs were. Multiple issues receiving paper checks from them, would take a week or more to receive. Did I mention the fact that less that 16% of my calls were under 20 miles one way? Drove 1600 miles in my first 6 weeks? Or that I drove 4800 miles in 10 months? When I was hired, I was told I'd hardly ever get anything over 20 miles away from my home, yet, 80% of my calls were over 20 miles from my home. What a deal!! :) |

Good writeup RuKiss. I wish I would have found something like this before I spent a lousy month working for this company. Hopefully others will see your experience and learn from it. |

I know how you feel. Just got screwed before Christmas by a company that sold my division to Qualxserv. All the outsourcing companies are like this, though. I've worked for several and to them you are just a commodity to be bought and sold. I've never thought much of unions, but something sure needs to be done about the situation in IT. Perhaps something like the American Medical Association (for IT pros)? |
