So I have worked here two days. Yes, just two. I'm already thinking of quitting. My first reason being, that the ad for the job said starting pay is $9 an hour, then at the interview was told it's only $7.25 an hour now. The fact that i've worked over 10 years in retail didn't boost up my starting pay either, i'm still getting paid the same as the newbies who don't know how to do ANYTHING at all.

Hi "Who"....You are SUPPOSED to be paid for riding in those vans..I would complain about that too!..That is supposed to be a part of your pay..from the time you leave til the time you arrive to and from....Yes, I totally agree about the robot thing...but, the word for it is more like "SLAVE"...And we all know that those days were supposed to have ended when Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation!...I'm shaking my head in disgust!!! |

You are not paid for the first hour that you ride in a van on your way to a job, nor for the first hour that you ride returning from a job unless that's changed in the last few months. You are, in all respects, a captive audience for those hours- just another of many "cost saving" decisions. Advertising a higher hourly wage than is actually offered is a long time standard RGIS policy. Wages vary by area, and every season they manage to hire some folks for even less than the rest of the new hires. There used to be ways to increase your wages within a few months by $.25 or .50 an hour if you regularly accepted & showed up for jobs on time. That went the way of the dinosaur a few years back. As I said in an earlier post, every few months corporate has a new hook with promises of raises, but I have yet to see them follow through on any of them. Part of the problem is that decision makers at corporate headquarters appear to change on a weekly basis, and everyone in local positions of authority won't question or challenge anything that comes from above because they all live in fear of losing their jobs. It works for some, but they're losing trained help regularly because of their policies. |

Ok I have an update. Long story short; Last day there I literally got shouted at for sitting on the floor to scan items on the bottom shelf. I was supposed to get my final check on August 24th, was told I could come to the office and get it, it wasn't there. So I called but then was told that I couldn't pick up the check, that it would have to be mailed to me but to not worry because it would get to me no later than the 1st of September. It is now September 5th, it doesn't take over a week to mail a tiny envelope to my house which is a measly 20 miles from the office. Then recently I get an email from my DM that is supposed to be my next work schedule but it just says that i'm not assigned to any more jobs because I have too many unexcused absences. That's a pile of crap, because my last day, I told my manager and supervisor I was done. When I got home I called my district manager to say I was done and even emailed him to let him know I was done. So I guess now they're tyring to make it look like I was fired instead of quitting hahaha yeah whatever! If the check isn't here by September 10th, i'm contacting the labor board. |

When I worked for RGIS, we only took the van for long trips. We drove ourselves to the locations if they were within 25 mi of the office. Of course, we paid for our own gas and were unpaid while driving in our own cars. You should be paid for at least some of the van time, and I suspect a Google search for your particular state will turn up legal resources that might help you. Break laws vary from state to state. For instance, if a Tennessee employee has worked at least six hours consecutively in a given day, he or she must be given a 30 minute unpaid break. It can't be stuck on the first of the shift or the end, and they can't count your van time as your unpaid break. Your state probably has its own laws. If you wear your audit machine on the left side, you should be keying with the left hand, and vice-versa. Or were you trying to cross over to your right side with your left arm? Sound to me light you have a high-strung office; they aren't all this tightly wound. I suggest you contact your state department of labor relations if you find you have valid complaints. Google is your friend. |
