I have worked for the company for 8 years. Just like any company you have good and bad times. The people who are able to make it mainly have good work ethics. I would love to see the company make some changes, but it will take time and people work together better as a team.

If employees would quit whining all the time and do something-either leave or work harder-things might change. We don't need all the whiners but once again every company has them.

Get a grip. If you don't like the company and the work, leave!!!! YOU WILL BE DOING US ALL A FAVOR!!! If you are like me keep working, have fun and enjoy your job. I have been in management and stepped down because like all salaried managers, you can work way too many hours and not get compensated. I am an hourly employee(supervisor) and love it.

I've worked for RGIS in California since December 2006. I am by far...no dummy! I have a business background and started working for RGIS when I quit my administrative position of 8.5 years with Kaiser Permanente for reasons irrelative. Point being; Yes, it is true that the inventory world is seasonal so if you're the sole support of your family and/or yourself, being an inventory specialist is probably not the job for you. There are no guarentees as to how many hours one might work in any given week. However, if you have a decent work ethic and can count at a productive pace, more than likely you will be scheduled with more hours than someone who's a flake, unreliable and counts at their own leisure. The stores are big (i.e. Macy's; San Francisco, Target Stores, Grocery Stores, etc.) and you're literally counting 'everything' in the entire store, unless you want to be there not only all day but all night too, you would want to be a little speedy with your counting! Let's face it, you can't be a slough off, expecting others to pull your weight and than be lavished with hours...not very feasable or business savy! The draw back is the pay! Regardless if you're given 40 hours per week or not, you can't expect to receive a 'fat' check at the end of every two weeks when making $9.00 per hour, come on! On the positive side, you're able to preference your work hours (i.e. mornings, afternoon/evenings or all) and after receiving your bi-weekly schedule, you can accept, deny, or even request more work hours upon availability. It's your choice as well as being up to you as to what you want to make out of the position! If being a supervisor or team lead is something you're interested in doing, than work hard, show your enthusiasm and rise above the rest. Just like anything else, you can't expect it to happen over night but with a little time, effort and hard work anything is accomplishable! YOU make your own destiny...others don't make it for you! RGIS is no different!

Ok....Yes, you WOULDN'T make a fortune at $9 an hour, BUT wouldn't you expect to work more than 4 hours in 3 wks?...I mean, come on!.....Can you tell me that you can raise 2 teenagers on $44 a wk?....I mean, if you were offered 40 hours of work a week, you could at least pay something with $300 a wk...That is a lot more than trying to scrape by on $40 a wk!...RGIS should be brutally honest with people and explain to them that they will only work a hand full of hours...then, you could at least be in for the shock when you don't get offered ANY hours and you could have sufficient time to look for something better!...Honestly, does RGIS even care or feel any empathy for its employees?...I highly doubt it!

I would not even dare try this job (as primary income) as a parent with two teenagers, that is just not smart. For most of my team (I am an Assistant Team Leader of one of the night crews), this job is supplemental income for what they make at a day job. For me, this is my primary income source since I am a student and I can schedule the hours I want to work in any given week. When I started working, I was not "in shock" with the lack of hours, especially during the holiday season. If you do not like the pay/hour ratio then find a different job as this job is clearly not for you.

I worked for RGIS for several months. I understood that it was not going to make me rich, but that was OK since I just wanted a second job.

I had two very major problems with these people.

1) They simply do not have a clue what makes good supervisor material. The team leaders were some of the most incompetent people I ever met! They don't lead by example, but by threats. The last straw was when I was told not to take breaks....I was evaluated by how many items per hour I count, and if I took breaks I would lower that amount, as break time was included in the time factors. When I insisted on taking my break, I was told maybe I was not cut out for the job. I agreed, and left.

2) The work is seasonal. I knew that up front but expected them to work around my first job's schedule In the fall I was lucky to get 4 hours a week. Then in January, all hell breaks loose! They expected (demanded) that I work 14 hours or more a day. Again, when I pointed out I had another job, they said maybe I was not cut our for the job. I hung in there until they finally broke my back (see #1 above).

If you are lucky to be put on a good team, in a good district, you will have it made! But the impression I get is they will hire anyone, and the intelligence of their employees is on the very low end. My whole experience was disappointing.

They were lying about the break time, unless they did not record that you all took a break, as break and lunch time are factored out of your APH. The company here in Tulsa understands that people have other jobs or other commitments and schedule you around them as much as possible. And when did you work? The ORACLE scheduling system does not allow for people to be scheduled for stores outside their availability.

I've been working for RGIS for 16 years. The other members of my team have been with RGIS for 10, 17 and 18 years. If there is one thing to complain about, it is that the company seems to hire anything that can walk throgh the front door and the result is that at times we carry a lot of dead weight. My opinion is that some people seem to think that "part time" means that it really isn't work and are then rudely surprised.
This job sure isn't rocket science but it does require a reasonable amount of intelligence, attention to what you're doing and dependability. These are basics for any type of job.
If you don't like the work, then quit. You'll be doing yourself and the rest of us a favor.
This is mainly part-time work so you're not going to get rich doing it ... but there's opportunity here if you want it. My current District Manager started as an hourly auditor and worked his way up from that to team leader, then supervisor and now he's the DM. Other people I've worked with part-time decided that there was more opportunity at RGIS than at their full-time jobs so they went to work full-time for RGIS and became supervisors.
And Jon in Cardiff has it exactly right: a crappy attitude gets you crappy hours.

I have to agree with: Malcolm in CT, Jon in Cardiff, United Kingdom, On The Real in San Leandro, California, beenhere8years in Olympia, Washington.

I have been with the company for 3 years I have seen 4 DM's come and go. I have seen 2 AM get fired. I have seen tons of people come and go. I know that there are times when it gets slow and I also knew that coming in to this job. I mean this is a company!!! They are out to make money just like everyone else. So if that means that you dont count that fast then guess what your not gonna get any hours. If you whine and complain your not gonna get any hours. I dont wanna work beside someone that is complaining about needing to somke every 2mins. I dont smoke I dont wanna hear it. I wanna count and go home. But its my attitude that gets me a bulk of my hours. Im not gonna call out of work or complain once I get there. Im gonna shut up and count. So you know what I tell every new person that comes in to my office.
IF you cant go 4 hours with out a break you need to leave now.
IF you are going to whine about working a double then you need to leave.
IF you are going to not show then GO NOW.
IF your gonna play the guessing game when it comes to counting then you need to GO NOW.
I personally dont wanna recount everything or work 120 hours in a week because some lazy person made the decision not to work their schedule and then complain about not having hours.
I figure the hours are not bad it gives me time to do basically anything i wanna do. My new DM could careless what i do as long as when he calls i can show up and get the job done. The day that stops happening is the day i quit.

My story is virtually identical to Jerry in Swartz Creek! Same reason I left also.

But I'll add that while I could probably count for 8 hours without a break, it would have been great to carry a bottle of water with me. Nope, that's against their policy.

Or when I was seen sitting on my footstool after 6 hours of non-stop standing....was ORDERED not be sit on the job while counting. Against the rules.

The job is basically brainless. But without proper equipment, training, teamwork, and team leaders who were totally ignorant on how to supervise people, the job was just not worth it.

First of all let me tell you a little something about RGIS. One of their biggest concerns is professionalism. I use to laugh at this when I was an Area Manager here in Spokane. It was really unprofessional to sit on the floor after your feet were swollen in your shoes, or to carry a water bottle instead of having to walk clear across the store to a fountain. Yet it is really professional to dress your employees like McDonald's workers. What a concept!

RGIS spouts accuracy until your ears are ringing with it, but let me tell you that isn't their concern. PROFIT is what they are concerned with.

It didn't take me long after becoming an Area Manager that I realized I didn't belong any more. It was my goal (after working there for six years and seeing how the employees were treated) to become a manager and perhaps change some things. I was told (by my higher ups) to change figures of an inventory count so that we could make a bigger profit, I refused to do so. I tried to schedule people fairly so that they weren't scheduled back to back or not enough, but was told not to schedule that way. I gave my people as many breaks as I felt they needed for their hard work and was told this lowered productivity. This company is corrupt, especially now that they are a corporation instead of family owned. I finally realized that I couldn't do as much good as was my goal and I left.

I've heard from friends that still work there how things are falling apart and I laugh each time that I hear it.

The funny thing is that I have now been offered a job by WIS (RGIS's biggest competitor) as a full time manager, making more than what I was making at RGIS and it sounds like they are a little nicer to their employees.

And as far as I'm concerned RGIS missed out on an awesome employee, who tried to make things right. So, I guess I'll see what I can do with WIS!! And how many accounts I can bring with me.

I hear WIS... RGIS... basically the same principles of the two companies. I hate to say it. I knew quite a few people who went back and forth between the companies a few times while working for RGIS. Whatever makes you happy though.
