Just another piece of crap recruiting company. I wish Indeed.com had some kind of filter that could be turned on to knock out ads by these clowns.

Actually they do. Go to advanced Filter and select to NOT include recruiting firms.

Does anyone knows what type of exam they give and what is the purpose for it? For example, one of the recruiter told me that I need to take an excel and accounting exam. After reading the postings on this board I am seriously thinking about canceling my appointment.

Is there a valid purpose for this exam? What are they trying to test you on? Does it effect your placement chances?

Thank you for your response.

I too wish there was an easy way to look only at posting directly from companies. As much as I do not like RH, I am still going to meet with them on Monday. As they say, Leave no leaf un turned.
Hey, Here's a business idea, start a placement agency that's actually honest. It works with other industries.

This may be way late, after the fact, however, here is some input.
From my experience, most agencies require that you test with them or on their softwares. They "need these test scores to foward to the client". I have taken the same tests at least 5 times.
This is time consuming - however - you can get practice from taking the tests. Be sure to follow up on what you may have missed, so, next time you can improve your scores. I've even retested at some places to have better scores. Also - ask if they can send you practice sessions or what version you're testing on.
Write down your basic job questions and take them with you. After interview, review what you may want to add/delete next time.
Also - use the interview for practice. Some recruiters want to get you in/out and go on. MAKE THEM answer your questions. If you are working with someone who's rushing you, get your answers. You don't have to work with them again.
Either way, you'll find out what your strengths/improvement areas are.
Googling is another great tool. "interview questions", "XYA Accounting tutorials", etc.
Good luck.

A lot of resumes simply list duties and don't tell the reader how well someone does something. The assessments eliminate the subjectivity. Companies appreciate the assessments and sometimes demand them from the recruiters.

There are a variety of assessments. Bookkeeping, A/P, A/R, Payroll, G/L, Accounting principles, various software. They are a grat marketing tool for you - IF YOU SCORE WELL. On the other hand if you are weak in the areas tested then those assesments will keep you on the sidelines.
