It's frustrating enough to be out of work, but to have a leading recruiter go fishing for resumes via phony ads is poor business practice. As a hiring professional I will never use RH services. I've been on both sides and this practice only serves to create anticipation of a potential interview, only to have it dashed.

Its a waste of time they just don't get, my 10 year old has more sense. All across the country the common tread is that you can expect bad treatment by Robert Half employees.

IMPROVING SKILLS? in Palatine, Illinois

I AM EMPLOYED IN A HIGH LEVEL POSITION. I OBTAINED THE POSITION WITHOUT THE HELP OF RHI. THE POSITIONS THEY ADVERTISE PROBABLY DON'T EXIST. DON'T YOU SEE EMPLOYER ADS STIPULATING THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO BE CONTACTED BY RECRUITING AGENCIES????? IT'S NOT JUST CANDIDATES WHO HAVE FOUND RHI TO BE CONS, BUT EMPLOYERS AS WELL.

SORRY IF YOU WORK FOR RHI. I GUESS IF YOU DO YOU WOULD HAVE A LOT OF TIME TO SPEND ON WEBSITES, BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE ANY REAL POSITIONS TO FILL.

Attention RH employee

If you spent any time at all trying to find jobs for people instead of advertising jobs that don't even exist you might not have so many "complainers" bashing the company. I have a good job. I am only looking for opportunities to better my career but RH was a complete waste of my time. Maybe if you spend some time improving your skills you'll get a real job. RH is a JOKE!

I have gone through RHI for a couple of jobs. The problem is your better off directly applying with the employer. Most jobs RHI adverstises are other companies job postings and probably are trying to gather resumes. After two tries of no interview, thus no job offer through RHI. I have stopped using recruting agencies for my job search. The second time, I used RHI last year, they had three positions that I qualified for. The recruiter told me one company had someone internal already and the other company could not meet my salary requirements. Plus she wanted to meet me face-to-face, before she would let me know of other jobs. I was not going to waste my time, because the position they advertised was only one day old and now they had an internal candiate. I told her when she had an opening that met my salary requirments, let me know. It has been two months and both positions RHI adverstised appeared in the paper, directly by employer..In addition to this, I am already employed in upper management and was thinking my chances would improve for executive management position through a recruiter. But no luck with RHI..

I have been in the staffing industry for over 10 years and unfortunately, RHI has a reputation in my particular market place as being sharks and very "used car salesman" like with thier clients. I also worked for a former RHI manager and he also stated, "it's (staffing) not about helping people although it is disquised as that...the bottom line, it's about making money." They do have great training but when it comes down to it, RHI is about making a fast buck without consideration of what's best for the client or the candidate.

I am a professional level recruiter and I agree with many of the posts about staffing agencies. Many times it is about making a quick buck, that's often why both companies and candidates get screwed. My advice is this: research the staffing agency before you say you'll interview with them. Do they have a strong presence in the community? How long have they been in business? Are they a local, franchise or nationwide company. Often local and franchise firms are more in touch with their community. Don't let one bad firm ruin it for the rest of us.
Ask for feedback if an agency says they don't have anything for you. Actively try to improve on anything you can.
No agency should waste your time. There is no need for it to take AT MOST an hour and a half, including testing. They shouldn't test you if you've got proven knowledge or if you're applying for a position that won't need test scores.
So my bottom line is this: know who you're registering with and ask plenty of questions.

Looking for help in Easton, Pennsylvania

Does anyone knows what type of exam they give and what is the purpose for it? For example, one of the recruiter told me that I need to take an excel and accounting exam. After reading the postings on this board I am seriously thinking about canceling my appointment.

Is there a valid purpose for this exam? What are they trying to test you on? Does it effect your placement chances?

Thank you for your response.

If you're applying for any type of accounting position that's not terribly unusual for them to test your Excel and accounting skills. The company they're working with may want someone with proven skills and that's part of the application process. I'd say if you're confident in your abilities, to go ahead and do them!

I agree, the San Diego office is pathetic. I've worked with other recruiters in the area and found them to be very professional and found work through them.

It is strange that I have never found work through Robert Half. It is also strange that I have never received a return phone call in response to a posted job.

Instead my interaction with them is always predicated on a 'new' recruiter calling me.

I don't use them, and advise others to avoid Robert Half as they are a waste of time.

I would recommend other agencies though as they have proven successful for me.

Your dead wrong buddy....it is not the applicants skills at issue but rather the lack of skills presented by the RH....they are rude, insensitive, send you on interviews that don't apply to your selection, don't respond to your inquires and generally act unprofessionally. Who needs an agency like this?

I took the exam and was unaware that I had to do so before I went to interview. The exam may be necessary, however they should tell you that you need to take this test before coming in for interviewing. The reason is simple, not all accounting companies use the same technologies and methods when doing accounting and they are not all run the same way. So what I did on my previous job, may not be what the test is asking you to know. I ran across a lot of that. I was a assistant controller and some of that stuff did not apply in hotel accounting where I worked. I can do any job in accounting, but don't put me through a written test to prove it, put me on the job to prove it! That's my way of proving my skills, if they would have done it that way, I would be employed by them today.

Nice comment. The point of "bashing rhi" is a "heads up" to others to not waste their valuable time and effort in an atmosphere of ineptitude and gross incompetence. &, with this 3 minutes of my life now gone, I can go ahead and improve my various skills. Thanks, for the tip!!! :P

I did them and scored well. That didn't help. I get an excuse about too much experience in one field and not enough in an other field. Investment Accounting is very similar to Corp. Accounting. Most people in Corp. Accounting want Corp. Accounting experience. They think that Investment Accounting is nothing but a waste of time. Investment Accounting : Verify prices on stock exchanges, verify that securities are set up properly, cash recons daily sometimes more, verify trades, verify that final reports are correct, deal with clients, understand each fund or account as new trades are being, understand future and option transactions, update databases, excel spreadsheets, monthly reporting etc. Find errors, find out why the trial balance is not balanced. Understand all computer systems to do your job. I can go on. But all that work doesn't count for Corporate Accounting.

I just hope that the economy gets better quick.

3 billion in sales and 37 million in profit*

I would like to be their auditors and see if its real or not. That translates into a 1% net profit but a lot of sales. Was Enron all fraud? How long did they get away with if for? Is Arthur Andersen still around? My point is sometimes CPAs miss fraud and then cover it up.

*These numbers are from RHI in yahoo finance.

Heh - you'll be amused to learn that Robert Half acquired a piece of Arthur Andersen (one sleazeball company deserves another), and named it Protiviti. It is an RHI company now.

I agree with this. I was told by an RHI recruiter the best I could do is a $10-$15 temp job in accounting since like the above my experience is on the investment side. I also do have a MS degree in finance, 10 years experience, and have passed 2 parts of the CPA exam and somehow I am unplaceable or unemployable in anything but straight fund or investment accounting
