I absolutely, absolutely second all the comments about Robert Half. It is, in my experience, as bad as everyone says, even worse. They simply, in my experience, do not want to do anything but get a warm body into a position and do it quickly. Beware, the recruiter may withold very important information about a position to get you to go to the interview. Ask myriad questions before agreeing to go anywhere or even take your time on phone interviews. It is your time and energy wasted. Not to mention the unmistakable feeling of being taken for a "chump." The expectation appears to be -- you will take any job and be happy about it. If things do not go as the recruiter plans on the interview, you will be to blame. I've been taken to task for "divulging" (recruiter's words) my opinion about positions. I do this, always, in a professional manner, if the job is not suitable, I will say so. Most especially, when secretarial positions are being masqueraded as paralegal positions. But, here in this forum, I'll throw caution to the winds and say, Gosh, maybe having a brain and being able to discern the truth from lies is a very negative trait in a candidate for the R. Half team. |

Displaced Legal Professional in Denver, Colorado said: I think that having a brain and the ability to separate truth from lies are negative traits for ANY jobseeker these days! Being stupid and having the ability to be buffaloed is the only way one can be hired. There are a few other things that hiring managers seem to be looking for these days as well. First, be as close to a robot as possible and have almost no personality or independent thought. Going hand-in-hand with this, do not be genuine. This is where the jobseeker can go astray because he often feels the prospective employer will appreciate honest answers and enthusiasm. Instead, many hiring managers seem more enamored with gameplayers and those who will just feed them preprogrammed statements designed solely with the express intention of getting a job offer. |

Let me tell you what its like to work there. You get there at 7:30 in the morning and start to try and make your "connects" a connect being an actual conversation with a decision maker within the company. You call companies all day long who don't want to talk to you. You get no breaks and a " suggested lunch" which means you have a lunch break but no time to take it. So you eat at your desk while working. Then in the afternoons you go out on "CV's to companies who could care less that you are there. Then you come back and the Branch manager or division leader is on your ass about why you did not get a job order. Then you make more phone calls until 6:00 pm where you go home in a fog. On Fridays you get what is called an Sar reports which are your billable hours and you go in for a meeting where they give you crap for not getting your 125 connects, 25 interviews, 12 CV's and 5 Job orders which is an impossible quota to make but they give you crap for it anyway. They treat you like crap all day long and pit members of you team against each other. That is a typical "marketing" week. Its worse if you are on "Desk". The turnover in my Branch is worse than in most fast food joints. I have been there less than a year and this place is by far the worst Coorporation I have worked for. Oh I forgot to add the Conference calls with some President of the eastern sea board who gives us more crap for not getting the numbers they have set for us.

Dear RH Recruiter Why are you not looking to leave then? It seems you must have had some conversations with hiring managers that may find you interesting as a candidate for them. I think the hours alone are a joke for the job. Any sales job worthwhile goes for you hitting the numbers, not being chained to a location for most of the week. You don't develop relationships with a headset. Personally, I hang up on any cold call. |
