I have my BA degree and also my paralegal certificate from an ABA approved school. I volunteered at a law office and also interned at a City Attorney's Office. I finished the paralegal program December 2006 and still no work. I have gone to many interviews and the last one the hiring manager said "you were our second choice" That's great but it doesn't help.

I applied out of state in CA just to see if I would get anything. I had a recruiter call me back the same day asking when I could come. I am not sure what to do. I should not have to move of state for a job. I also can't really afford to move either. Now I am thinking of going into another field. I'm losing hope.

I too am a paralegal and graduated with my bachelor's degree from an ABA accredited college. After my internship ended, I had a hard time finding work. It took me a year and a half of working as a legal assistant/secretary before I could actually land another paralegal position. Don't give up and let the frustration get to you and force you to go into another career. You will find work, it's a slow market out there for everyone. Just don't give up. Trust in your confidence and know that there is a great job out there for you...even if you have to work as a legal secretary or anything else, just get your foot in the door at a firm you enjoy and you will notice that the hard work you do there will pay off. You will find it's tough in any field you go into just keep your head up.

Getting paralegal jobs is an SOB, even for experienced paralegals. If it makes you feel any better, I have a degree, paralegal certificate and ELEVEN-PLUS years of experience with two firms in four specialities. I lost my job nearly a year ago. Since that time I have made over 180 contacts in all, with about 120 for legal jobs. I have had twelve interviews, with fewer than ten for legal jobs. My only offer has been to work for Northwest Airlines part-time for $9.40 an hour. To say the least, I am frustrated, bewildered and a few other things.

Having said that, keep applying. You've barely been at it. It's not unusual to need several months to get your first job. Trust me, you'll get your chance.

Good luck with your efforts.

I understand your problem. I quitted my job since i couldn't commute to the work location and I am still looking for. Nowaway, it seems the recruiter call you to come in and that is all. Some jobs that were posted onlin unreal and i know we wasted our time. Just be strong and patience and talk to yourself that the right opportunity will come. Good Luck
