The other day I received a call from an MRI recruiter. Even though I had posted my resume on their website, he seemed to know nothing about my experience. When I pressed him about whether he had any specific positions in mind that meet my qualifications, he said no, but that we will "co-create" a profile which he will then use to market me. At the end of the interview he asked that I email him contacts from my former company, along with my resume. I said "sure", and then emailed the resume and only one HR contact. The next day the recruiter emailed me saying "don't forget to give me your references, and then we can co-create your profile". Well, I am no idiot. This guy has no intention of marketing me to other companies, nor do I want him to. And I have no intention of sending him any references as I know he will solicit them for positions. This same thing happened to me a couple months ago with another MRI recruiter, and at that time I only sent one HR contact, and of course I never heard from the guy again. How should I respond to this recruiter? Should I ignore his last email and let it go? Should I email back and say thanks but no thanks? Should I call him on the carpet and tell him why I won't send references? And is there any way for me to remove my resume and profile from their website? MRI has already wasted enough of my time! |

Good for you in Cary, you spotted the con. Tell the recuriter to F-OFF before he gets all your info and then tells you to - by ignoring you & screwing you over. |

I work as a Sr. Mgr in a Federal contracting firm. In my role- my phone rings constantly with calls from "vendors" asking if they have any business they can work on. I worked with RHI ONCE in my career (over 11 yrs in recruiting mgt.) and won't ever do it again. Not that RHI (the company) is baaad per se- but it is what it is.. and they are no worse than many other resume mills out there. On their side.. it is about the profit.. and the bottom line. They will and do work references for new clients to place.. and to jobs to fill. They DO post jobs to "pipeline" candidates.. no actual real job exists at the time. Just be careful about giving your personal information away. A recruiter should be fully forthcoming about the client they have, and the position they think you would be qualified for, when they interview you on the phone, or, in person. If they you sense that the info flow is going only in one direction- politely excuse yoruself and roll out. Like any business- there are some good people at RHI. Some that try. But they do have processes and systems that make it more of a mill.. and less of a personal/ 1 on 1 experience. If they think even remotely that can make a buck on placing you they will. And if they can't place you.. they will try to get business from your references.. as clients or as new candidates. When you go in.. that's what you sign up for, so buyer beware. |

That's a very interesting comment concerning MRI recruiters. I've had little experiences with them but discovered the ones I've encounter were ignorant and unprofessional. They appear to say just about anything for any reason... It doesn't make much sense! I would express yourself and concerns about why you would NOT give this guy your references but in a pleasant why let him know that everyone isn't stupid like him... I can believe someone from MRI would say something like co-create a profile! Move on, you are quite good and keep your faith. |
