Ex-RHI Recruiter in Knoxville, Tennessee

Let me first start off by saying that I think RHI is a scam...and that includes all branches. Especially Robby Half Technology.

However, if you go into an RHT location - or any other interview for that matter - and come across to the recruiter/interviewer as desperate, you will have a near 0% chance of landing the/a job.

As you can likely determine from my forum name, I am an ex-RHT recruiter who is now happily employed back in the IT industry. When potential recruits would say things to me like:
"I'll do anything."
"I just need a job."
"I haven't had any luck finding work."
etc...I would always put their resume to the back of the pile and move along.

No employer is going to hire a desperate person, because GOOD IT people are ALL working, therefore, they are not desperate.

I'm not suggesting you act nonchalant as if you have the world by the tail. There were several instances where I had candidates who would read the newspaper, send/receive text messages, or take phone calls while I was conducting their initial interview. These people, too, were moved to the back of the line.

Just be yourself, shoot straight with recruiters and HR people, and you'll be fine.

"GOOD IT people are ALL working"?? Point taken, in a pure general sense; but as an IT person yourself, you have to know that this is NOT 100% true. It's still an extremely tough market out there, with only so many seats available. So, if you're GOOD, but no jobs are available, then "you're out!". Simple as that.
