Hello everyone,

I was wondering something, I enlisted into the Tennessee Army National Guard, and plan on coming home and going to my local university and getting my BS in Management Information Systems (MIS). While also trying to get my MBA, and doing ROTC and getting commissioned to 2nd LT in the Army National Guard. My question is though, will employers tend not to hire people serving in the National Guard/Army Reserve?

I didn't know if they would be afraid of you being deployed and making their decision on that? Also on the flip side, do employers tend to hire people serving part-time in the military because of the training, discipline, and other qualities they have? I just didn't want to spend all that time getting my degree and commission to have civilian employers not hire me because I am serving in the National Guard part-time.. Thanks

I have spent 17 years in the A.F. Reserve and have never had a problem with an employer letting me go for my training. Unfortunately it may be different due to our current wartime situation. Most employers I have interviewed with like the military training and discipline. But really it depends on the job you are going for. Are you applying for a company that appears more conservative or liberal. I say go full steam ahead with your plans, you will do fine.
