Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Safeway? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Safeway? |

As the case is with most grocery stores, the dress code is pretty standard at Safeway. If you are reading this, chances are 99 percent that you've been to a Safeway before and have been witnessed to the attire that most Safeway employees wear according to the dress-code. The greenish/bashe work shirts, the black dress pants, the black work shoes, the hats and the aprons with the Safeway name and logo on them. It's pretty standard stuff. I work for a Safeway location just outside of Baltimore, and I'm a huge Orioles fan and a huge Ravens fan. I often wear an Orioles pin on my apron as well as a Ravens pin since it doesn't violate the dress code. The typical life in the day of a Safeway employee depends on what department you work in. I work as a cashier both in our deli department during the late mornings/early afternoon, I also work the regular registers at the front of the store. Working in the deli my days are typical, I try to help out where I can with the deli clerks but I mainly provide a quick and easy check-out without having to walk to the front of the store. This helps our working costumers who often frequent our deli department during their lunch break. Also working on the registers up front, the days are pretty predictable. Our bussiest times on weekdays are usually be anywhere from 3:30pm to 7:30. If you work at any Safeway long enough though, you'll see that costumers tend to come and go by waves. You can have periods of time where lines are really busy and backed-up, as well as times where the store is at a lull with very few costumers at the check-out lines. As is the nature of business, Safeway hires employees that get along with people and work well with costumers. This kind of enviroment makes it very easy to get along and make friends with people who work in the store sare talkative and have friendly personalities. So you can imagine that it's not all that uncommon for Safeway employees to hangout with eachother outside of work. |

A slight correction in the last paragraph, "sare" should be "are" |

Be prepared to endure reverse discrimination from minority staffers in AZ HQ. Especially if you're better educated & have more experience with language. Was talked out of a lawsuit by a federal EEOC Rep; not due to a lack of merit but due to the time "3 yrs or longer" it takes to investigate. If anyone doubts this I have witnesses, names, dates of incidents to prove it. |
