Do you work at Sara Lee? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

I am an RSR for Sara Lee In San Leandro, CA. I'm tring to get a job doing the same thing in Charlotte. I'm not getting much results. I have applied through ESC and at carolinajobs@saralee.com. I have also called the HR manager and her assistant and the Zone Manager there. All I get is the persons voice mail and I get no calls back. I have emailed all of the and gotten no response. When you apply online you should get an automated resopnse asking you to answer questions about ethnicity which you can choose to answer or not. Point is I'm not even getting those automated responses.

I did my phone interview april 25 I just got a call to do a face to face May 11th , The guy I talked to over the phone was really nice and laid back...I actually got another job offer but I dont start that job for a couple weeks I accepted the job, so if this doesnt work out with sara lee then at least I have a job waiting for me, I would rather work for Sara Lee, I've been off work for 6 months. Good Luck to everyone

Oh man, I think you bested me for this one. I talked with a woman named Melissa. Who did you get? My background is more in manufacturing than CPG, which I think is a requirement over a preference. Would you agree?

I originally got in when I was working in a supermarket and the RSR who delivered to my store said they were hiring. It seems to me they only hire on recommedations from other RSR's. I couldn't get a transfer and I know of one other that couldn't either and another who had a tough time. I finally took a job with another company.

I worked for Sara Lee in MN. I was terminated for paying merchandising of their product on the weekends by people that worked in those stores. I could leave more product and the store never ran out, increasing their sales and my paycheck. I had asked for more 'pull-up' hours to get this done and was turned down. So I did it myself. The RSR's do the work and the suits get the praise. All I have to get across is, if you get hired, don't take any intiative other than what you need to.

I haved worked in retail for 20 years, I have seen almost every vendor give a store employee or another vendor cash so they could merchandise while the vendor is off or at a busier store. I dont see what the problem is the work is getting done, its not like your giving away free products.

It violated their 'Global Business Practices'. They don't care about anything except their own jobs. What I did benefitted the company and the store. I was the only one that was out anything. I showed the increased sales and the quality of the service had improved to the ZVP and HR, it didn't matter. I was still out on my ear.

The reason, I suspect...you were out on your ear? Was that what you did technically, is probably a legal matter not to metion an ethical one. If someone is already being paid for an hour, then you paying them too, for that same hour? Well, I hope you see what I mean. It'd be like a guy working for FedEX, and then sneaking in deliveries in for UPS on the hush-hush. Not good.

Linda,
They did it before or after they worked. Not while they were working for the company. I paid them not Sara Lee or anyone else. As far as ethical, I chose these people from several and had known them for several years prior to this. For the reason of my termination, they have yet to replace me. They are having another DM cover 3 areas, not just one as they should....

I gotcha'. Still, I'm thinking they simply don't want anyone "farming" out work specifically assigned to them. Merely per company policy. You KNOW how corporations are so all-about that!
Sounds as if you were doing a great job, tho'...since they are looking to hire 3 to take your place. <smile> Good luck!

The farming out, as you put it, was an acceptable practice for years prior to this instance. There was no policy in place, nothing written down, no training regarding this matter. So no, it wasn't the 'farming out' of work.

Actually the legal matter on this situation is libiality lawsuits. If someone got hurt doing your job, Company can get sue $$$$ for someone doing your job. And there insurance won't cover that mistake.

Jim,
Then don't you think that it would be covered in some sort of training or by a policy somewhere? It wasn't. I asked HR for the policy number and where I could find it. He said "there isn't one, but there will be one now." The legality of this has passed through many hands, including my lawyer's. It was unprofessional of me, but I had a good record, a great sales record and my customers loved me. You would think that in itself would warrant a second chance, but no. I there is no lost love for Sara Lee, but I still own stock. And further more it wasn't my job, I did it for the company. I asked for more hours to have the people hired, but was refused by the CFO for Southern MN. In stock means sales in this business.

Don't..........They will use you until your usefulness is over. Then they'll tell you to hit the road. I was a Retail Bakery Outlet Manager..........I wasn't making enough money for the Big Boys and my Store was closed. I was Never in the Red!! There were Three Stores Closed in the Same month. That means 9 people or more out of Jobs!! I worked for this Company for TEN years with NO compensation and they are paying 9.1 million in comp to Barnes?????

I would just like to say this company is not afraid to break the law and that is why they get sued so much. They are in constant fear of a lawsuit yet they continue to do things to bring them on. I will not consume anything made by Sara Lee any company that allows the HR atrocities (working RSRs 15 plus hours, horrible working conditions (dangerous wet floors leaks in ceilings) that Sara Lee does should be sued and everyone be warned this company will work you to death they dont care if you live or die, all that matters to them is the bread getting on the shelf.

That is sort of an odd question. What difference does it make?

Why is it an odd question? If you don't know the answer, please don't comment.
