Holiday Pay question- Need to know!

My ex is a E-QMT in Southeastern Michigan. He has worked for Sears for 20 some years .Because of this he thinks he can do whatever he wants. He works about 20 hours a week yet still takes 40 hours on his paycheck every week. He never works on Holidays or the day before or after for that matter. My question, He told me he used a personal day for yesterday, the day after thanksgiving the bussiest shopping day of the year. Is this possible? Isn't this a mandatory day? Do you get holiday pay if you do not work the day before and the day after a holiday in an hourly position? Please respond!
