One more comment on: liz said: Our current store manager is the devil and makes every one horrified that they will lose their job if they do not produce enough credit aps, PA's, RA's, MRA's, etc. OH MY GOD, MY STORE MANAGER WANTS TO MAKE MONEY! HOW COULD HE! Hey, if you can't produce, there's someone in town that can. Besides, if you were a competent Lead you'd be coaching your associates on their selling skills in those areas instead of b@#@%ing about them. |

Michelle in Terre Haute, Indiana said: Sears, Ha that's funny. I have worked at sears for 3 years, the charges are not as bad as most places. As you know the cost of living has significantly increased and we need to make up for that in our delivery costs... It's not a bad place to shop. I work in electronics and we generally have the lowest prices versus all of our local competitors. Are Managers and associates go above and beyond for our customers, and most of them appreciate it... |

I work at sears it is not my primary job since I have gotten my degree, but I work in electrronics and I average 18.60$ an hour. How much do you make?... that's what I thought. Don't make assumptions, because you were way off on this judgement call, a few associates and myself just found this forum and I must tell you it made us all laugh. What I can make in a matter of 8 hours, someone "scrubing toilets at mcdonalds, or someone greeting people at walmart" work have to work a good week to measure up... |

As far as the company surviving goes: I highly doubt it and I think that because there is hardly any customer service because hours keep randomly being cut. (With no workers, you get no customer service and less people will be likely to keep shopping because customers like the security in knowing that there will be someone there to help them if needed.) At first, I loved working at Sears. The management and the co-workers were nice and everything was set up in a manner where everyone could get their job done. Management would tell you just to do the "best that you can" and they would be satisfied. However, in the past few months things have gone downhill. The store is dead even now in the holiday season, the company cares way too much about credit apps, hours are being cut, the manager revises the schedule at an average of two or three times a week and doesn't tell you, the pay rate is terrible, everyone is overworked, and there is way too much drama and gossip for my taste. It's needless to say that I am done with everything that has been going on there and I am actively looking for a new job. |

Samantha in Leavenworth, Kansas said: The Sears in Leavenworth, KS closed down due to not making enough money in 0CT. 06. I guess if they are in a big city Sears has nothing to worry about. Not sure where you get that idea. It is in the bigger cities where there are lots of Best Buy stores and circuit city. Plenty of competition. |

Lawrence R. Decoste in Albany, New York said: I work for sears, It does suck but I look at it as a job to make money. Eventually Sears will shut it's doors for good and I sure the hell won't be there. It's a tough place to work the employee's steal a lot and most associates only get commission. Any job you ever have will suck. And the only thing in common with all those jobs will be you.
The people you wait on and your co-workers can tell you hate being there. I saw a garbage truck wihout a guy on the back of it. Give that a try. |

Sometimes the thing you want is in the store, sometimes not.
One small point, you had better read the find print on the Lowe's extended warranty.
Oh and if you call Lowe's to come fis your frig, guess what.
Did they tell you they did? |

former lp in dixon, Illinois said: I believe sooner or later Kmart/Sears will be a thing of the past. Maybe not all of them but the ones in smaller towns. I've given Kmart over 30 yrs. of my life. I loved the people in my store including the managers and district managers. And now I am without a job because my position of loss prevention was terminated. What kind of company would terminate the loss prevention position? The customers will be able to walk in and walk out with whatever they want without paying for it. Our store is a wonderful place to work except for all the corporate crap. I truly believe the worst thing Kmart ever did was team up with Sears. I loved my job and now it's gone. K-Mart did not "team up sith Sears" A guy bought K-Mart.

It's better to have 200,000 people and 3 appliance stores than it is to have 1,000 people and 1 appliance store, in a desserted town. |

I applied at the Sears Grand store in Shawnee, Kansas today. First when I went into the store it was dead, no customers were anywhere. Second all of the associates were either standing and talking or just walking around the store. I asked a lady that worked there where the HR department was, since I had an 11 a.m. appointment she looked confused and asked "What's HR?" I told her Human Resources, so then she says its over there and points me towards Lawn & Garden! So then I go to the customer service desk, and see two women sitting on the counter talking, I tell them I have an interview, they (while still sitting on the counter) ask me my name, I tell them and one of them leans over and pages someone. After 10 minutes I am told the person interviewing me had no idea they were suppose to, and that it would be another 20 minutes. The interview was the most stupidest thing I've ever experienced. She asked me three questions, then said the position was part time, and I could have a full time position if and only if one became available. I think this will be last time I ever walk into a Sears, I mean that kind of experience tells me there are way better places to shop and get a job. My advice anyone wanting to apply at Sears don't do it, because you will regret it. |

I work at Sears in Oakland. I enjoy working for this company. The problem that I see is lazy people that don't wanna work. I do whatever I'm told. I have built grills and exercise equipment. I have sold MRAs and don't get one cent for them. The reason I do this is it's good for the store. Remember the store is only as good as the people working there. I hear employees complain everyday. I hate this job. I shouldn't have to do this it's not part of my job. It sickens me to hear this kind of crap. If you don't like the job then get the hell out so they can replace you with someone that enjoys the job because your attitude hurts the store. Will Sears thive? My answer is maybe if they can weed out all the bad employees. This is for all those complaining about prices. Simple answer we price match. |

I'd like to think I'm self motivated either by helping customers or working hard doing planograms whatever. But if management burns you out because what you do is not enough. Its never enough. We have no hours not enough people, people quit because there is no hours to be given. Don't mind the work but they need to be more appreciative of the work we do. |

I also hear that there are no hours, some people have 5 hours... but I don't work there anymore, so that is just hearsay. |

My auto center has less hours for my sales then we are open. I dont have enough hours for mechanics. I cant get in more then one car at a time forcing me to turn many cars away. We are also running a 60% increase from last year - yet my hours ae getting cut. Pretty soon I will be selling, installing and running this place myself. |

They kept most of the associates from the holiday season while cutting the hours drastically. My department alone has been cut down by over 100 hours. A couple of people have only 5 to 10 hours per week. |

Rob Roberts in Schaumburg, Illinois said: Please don't wait! Quit now! Only you can control your destiny! Complaining and threatening are tactics for the weak. Show them you mean business and walk out today. You know what they say,......."If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem." I personally wouldn't work for a company that I hated as much as you hate Sears for one minute longer. Why is it that there are so many comments just like this one? Rabble rousers. Why is it that there are so many former employees still posting comments like these? They miss it, and want feel like they made the right decision to leave. It's human nature to want others to fail after you have yourself. The only fault I can see with Sears is that 9 times out of 10 they'll hire you back after you leave and it doesn't work out in your greener pastures. If it were my company and you felt this way when you left, I wouldn't hire you back. I totally have to agree with you. I work at Sears and I have for almost two years and it has been GREAT!!! I love the people I work with and the management is also very good to us. I don't plan to leave Sears even though I did go to school for pharmacy technician and graduated top of my class, I would rather a million times work at a place where I like to be than somewhere making more money and being miserable. |

Sears will survive. It survived the Great Depression - even opened a few new stores.

Kevin in Colorado in Louisville, Colorado said: Unfortunately, I have my doubts. We have a Sears Grand that opened within the last 2 years, a Great Indoors that has been open since 2002, and a Kmart, all within 5 miles of where I live. The Kmart looks outdated and needs a serious overhaul inside (but I will admit, it is much cleaner than a Wal-Mart of similar age). Both the Sears Grand (a very nice clean store) and the Great Indoors (also very clean) never seem to have a lot of customers, even on weekends. We recently went to both the Sears and Great Indoors looking for a washing machine that we needed that night. It would have taken 3 days to get one from both stores (comes from the Denver warehouse) as they carry no inventory for large appliances. I went to Lowes and bought a Bosch front loader and with the discount they were giving for that model at the time, I bought one (and walked out with it when I purchased it) with a 5 year extended warranty for $200 less than Sears. The price with tax turned out to be about $50 less than the Kenmore we were looking at without an extended warranty. Plus, I personally felt that the Bosch (Sears doesn't sell Bosch) would have held up better than the Kenmore (and the Whirlpool equivalent) as it didn't have as many fancy electronic controls and touchpads. ok sears does sell bosch and btw whirlpool makes most of sears appliances for now. LG is going to be making the Kenmore line in the very near future... |

The lowest paid appliance seller is making 18 bucks a hour and as for electroics lowest is making 14 so I dont know what sears you guys are comming from but our sears isnt very big and there are many successful people. The lady making 47 is on commision only and that is what appliances get no base pay. Wow!! I don't know wat sears u work at but most of the sears in california suck big time from sales to managers. Some people just love sears I guess good luck sooner or later you'll see wat everyone is talking about its the worst company to ever work for and the $$ will come down trust me I workd there. The managers always change the policies for the customers and never stand behind you for nothing.. You think your getting paid your full check hahaha check again. Why are they in so many lawsuits.. |

Like I said in my above post, I'm just doing what I have been told to do, and that's ring people up, provide customer service, and offer credit to every customer I am in contact with. I know about 90% of sales associates in any Sears store don't ask EVERY customer for credit. The easiest thing is to slip in the question while finishing up at the POS. I just hate it when people think they're being pushed too far just by being forced to ask a question to every customer. Your in denial I'm sorry that's how it start you do ur job then they take advantage of u.. And 4 the record check and see if that's your state minimum wage is $7 |
