I have a blue&white very small checkered button up shirt with khakis. Should this be good for a Sears Interview?

NO!!

It's a cliche but you NEVER get a second chance to make a first impression.

You should definitely wear a suit and tie!! It will make you stand out from the other average applicants.

If you don't have a suit and tie, then buy or borrow one. At least wear a tie.

I recruit and interview people for a living so here is some more advice (even more important than the suit):

Make sure you give a good firm (dry), handshake. It may sound weird, but a good handshake goes a long way. I have been on panel interviews where the first thing that was discussed after the interview was the terrible, limp, sweaty handshake.

During the interview, make sure you smile and look the interviewer(s) in the eye.

Listen carefully to the questions: if they ask you for an example of when you have had to deal with an upset customer, never say "that has never happened to me" and leave it at that. If they ask you about something that you have really never dealt with say: say "I have not experienced that yet, but here is what I would do in that situation."

Also, have some questions ready so when they ask if you have any questions at the end of the interview, you are not sitting there looking foolish. Be ready to talk about any goals you may have down the road.

The main thing is to be upbeat during the interview. In recruiting, the belief is that you can train someone to do a task or learn something but you can never train someone to have a good personality or be a good "fit." I would much rather hire someone less experienced but who had the right personality than hire someone with 10 years of experience but who was a bump on a log.

Sorry about the long response but recruiting, interviewing and hiring is my passion . . .

I hope this helps!

Hi Alex - I don't know what your situation is but I would do whatever I could to wear at least some nice pants (not jeans) and a shirt with a tie. If there is no way to get or borrow something to wear, then I would be sure to call the person you are interviewing with to let them know so there are no surprises. I would be totally fine with someone calling me to let me know that they don't have suit to wear to the interview. It shows me that they care enough to ask.

Best of luck to you!!

If you're interviewing for the automotive garage that might be exceptable, but you should definately wear a suit. I was 1 minute early for my interview and the store was locked. I quicky went to the mall entrance where the gate was about to open. I asked the gentleman opening the gate if he could direct me to HR. He introduced himself as the store manager, walked me there and interviewed me himself. I had the job in 15 minutes. Did the suit help?

I recently had an interview for Sears on Monday, and after my second interview (same day, right after my 1st) I was hired on the spot. I start tomorrow. I wore a sky blue dress shirt, khaki pants and black dress shoes.

However, their dress code is dressy casual...most employees wear black collar dress shirts, khaki pants/black dress pants and black dress shoes. Id prefer you wear that...show them you will be wearing that to work when they hire you. :)

However, Im very scared because I just read all of the horrible reviews about working at Sears. :'(
