Yes, they are just another piece of crap recruiting company. They contacted me but I never found a job thru them and they were a big waste of my time, which I find most recruiters are anyhow. I wish all recruiting companies would just disappear, the world would be much better. |

Once again, I am so sorry that you have such bad luck with recruiting companies. Obiviously, you have nothing better to do but to post nasty comments about a company that obviously saw through your nasty attitude. I received a wonderful job with better pay and benefits than my previous job, and I owe it all to Spherion!!!! Maybe you need to check yourself before going on another interview!!! |

Here's the deal with recruiting companies. Experiences vary. Even with the same company and different locations. I'm sure that Michelle in Ft. Lauderdale got a great job through them. On the other hand, the fact that people in other areas did not is not an indication of poor attitudes. I have a great attitude and resume. I also had a bad experience with Spherion. I called the local Spherion office to enquire about their relationship with a local company. I wanted to get in the door at this firm. I received one phone call. I responded to that phone call and didn't receive a reply. Yes, I followed with a second phone call. It was very unprofessional. I suggest taking a look at the reviews for the offices in your area. A better suggestion would be to go through your local yellow pages and speak to at least five agencies in your area. Play the numbers game. The more agencies with your resume; the higher the likelihood of getting a suitable position. |

It also depends on the experience of the recruiter the relationships that they have built and how long they have been a recruiter. Sometimes in my field attorneys take this position just to look for jobs themselves and do nothing for the clients |

I have worked with recruiters before, but these folks take the cake. Extremely UNPROFESSIONAL. I got a call pimping a job that I was actually interested in, so I took the bait. Went to two (count 'em TWO) interviews with the company I was a candidate for-on busy workdays no less! My "recruiter" at Spherion was always "Yeah, yeah, you wowed them...I'll just get back to you." Had all my ducks lined up (referees, job history, etc.) And then...SILENCE. Nothing. No telephone calls returned, no email answered...nothing. I've worked with recruiters in the past who would call up with questions about work history, etc., etc., to work out. They always did. Now these jokers have re-posted the job WITH ANOTHER recruiter as contact. What the heck??? If you have a problem with a candidate or if the company that you're being groomed for has an issue, CONTACT THE CANDIDATE. Don't leave us in a lurch. Very very unprofessional. |

Well do you expect the recruiter to TELL you the hiring company doesn't want to PAY for your experience? After all, if they can get someone with half your experience, they only have to pay them half what you want. As far as remaining in contact with the candidates, they don't work for you. They are only the extended HR department and will do anything to avoid talking to you unnecessarily. |

What you are seeing above from JAN is what a lot of recruiters are REALLY thinking when you get through the practiced sales routine or challenge enough of their lies. They despise the idea that people can trade experiences on the internet and armor themselves against the crap many of them spew. Quick-buck sales types always hate the knowledgeable player, so they call people who are here trading bad experiences "losers" because a person so informed is less likely to buy into the crap and play the game the recruiter's way. Use them, yes because you MAY get lucky with them, but know how to play them and don't get played BY them. That's what's got her and that [Edited by Host] <inappropriate language deleted>
A lot of the big recruiters (Half, Spherion) are mostly in the temp business now. Spherion also has contracts to do initial screening of resumes sent to websites for certain hiring companies, such as MetLife (not selling agents, I mean for their corporate offices). My experience has been that the bigger companies tend to have their own websites or use a job board. If you want a job with a big company, go directly to their website. You are more likely to get better treatment from smaller, local agencies who deal with medium to smaller companies, ones that don't want to do the whole search process themselves. Those agencies realize that the guy they place today may be looking to hire someone next year and may have the discretion to work with the recruiter of his choice. Bigger agencies lucky enough to have national contracts from Fortune 500 firms know they are locked in for future hires and the local guy doesn't really have much choice in whom to use (hell, the HR rep will probably do the intial contact) so burning bridges really isn't as critical for them. |

Semi Bob said: What you are seeing above from JAN is what a lot of recruiters are REALLY thinking when you get through the practiced sales routine or challenge enough of their lies... Bob, Thanks for the input. VERY well said. I agree that most, not all, recruiters and their allies ("Jan") hate anyone with any intelligence. However, sometimes you have to use agencies because there are so many large companies to choose from, you just don't have the time to review each. Plus, not all jobs are posted. As for Jan - I am getting more chuckles lately because others are finding this person out. In fact, if you look at some of the other postings, they all seem to link that "Jan" and Pleasanton are the same person. No wonder this person is so angry. He/she is being called out for what they are. Just a bitter person for whatever reason. There's also bigdog (har) and about 5 other names. Also, this person is first an employee, then a recruiter, and one of the latest postings, someone who USES RHI for their IT placements. Now, who's the loser? |

Maybe he/she's is finally taking a breather? Let's hope so. Russ, not knocking you, but are you searching Forum for a job? Spherion forum doesn't have much info from others, but, there are some places I could suggest where "Indeed Posters" people are supportive have good ideas. |

Spherion posted a position and I applied for it the same day. I received a call the next day for an interview. They never called back to confirm this so I called them back and was told the position was already filled. I was told I'd have to go through at least 2 or 3 interviews and it wasn't even two days and was told this. Very misleading getting someones expectations up and nothing happens. I would never recommend Spherion to my colleagues. |

Sandra said: Maybe you are just one of the lucky ones. My disposition and skills are fabulous. The company needs a more professional staff. Sandra, Mayber you can use Spherion to get info on resume, highlight your skills, etc. The Spherion office I worked with 3 yrs ago (uncaring) is not the one I worked with this time. The two recruiters I worked with helped me with resume and interview questions. HOWEVER, I was the one that asked them to give me feedback. I've seen in some forums where job-seerks didn't want feedback, and/or recruiters hesitated because the job seeker wasn't willing to hear. Even if you aren't comfortable with recruiter, ask their help. Is it my resume? Should I expand/reduce resume size? Do you have tutorials I can use? Can I retest? Etc. No, I didn't like redoing my resume 5 times, testing 8 times to register with recruiters, etc. However, the practice helped me increase my scores (I'm MS proficient already) and developed resume that started getting me calls.
As for the Michelles and Jans of the world, ignore them. They get their jollies by visiting the boards to demoralize people. Ever notice how many of their posts seem to "disappear"? It's because of their language and offensiveness in general. Learn from their mistakes. Good luck. |

OK. I had applied to a job with the State Of MD through Spherion, at least I thought. Here I come to find that they were trying to circumvent the process. They are not even included as an approved recruiting firm with MD. They had the audacity to make refereneces to what the State of MD would expect in the way of exact salary req's etc... I turned them into the State of MD. As you can suppose, I haven't heard from them since.

There's a lot of these in Chicago, using all the major webboards. If you go in and talk to them, they can put your resume in their database to look good to potential clients (they like that)...however, they will BS you that they are 100 times better than any real job...when they don't give a crap if you get lucky using them and find a job. These places are pretty much outright BS and fraud, and the govt. does nothing about them. Cost me a lot of time out of college until I figured out all this BS. |

The biggest problem that I see with staffing companies is that they will pull jobs off of an employers site and post it as though they have been contracted to conduct the search. They will even tell you as a perspective candidate that they have been contracted by XYZ company to recruit for ABC position. When they get qualified applicants they contact the employer and try to use the resumes as a bargaining tactic to get the business. In most cases the employer is not interested in going through the expense of hiring through a staffing company so they turn them down, and subsequently your resume will never make it in front of the employer. I am a hiring manager at MGM Mirage in Las Vegas and I can tell you that RHT did this all the time. Right now there are 4 jobs posted by RHT and I can tell you that they are NOT contracted to staff these positins. |

I've even seen the Hiring Company post the job on Career Builder and right above and below it the same job (worded a tad differently) by CyberCoders, Stink Resources and Judge Group. Aerotek & Manpower aren't a big website thief as those two. And what really irks me is the sentence they include; "My client" or "We have partnered". I even had a recruiter call me, we talked for 10 minutes (I never sent him my MS Word Resume') and then copy/pasted my resume off the Internet, mixed my paragraphs with sections of their job description and send it to them. Needless to say I had a long talk with the HR Manager of that company. |

All the person attacks are a waste of time. We still arent solving any problems. Yes some recruiter are terrible. Lots are dishonest. I have been both sides so i know. But not all are bad, some are very honest and proficient at their job.But like salesman when commission is involved the snakes are going to show up. I suggest really ask the recruiter a lot questions when you are having that first conversation, get a feel for them while they are gathering info about your background. But just the same way some people wont trust or use recruiters because of lack of professionalism, etc. Recruiters deal with the same from candidates. Both sides need to be more professional and honest.
Good article on telling a good recruiter from a bad one.

Why has this gotten so personal? Agree to disagree. Some people may have great experiences with recruiters and some not so great.I have gone through recruiters previously, it is all about professionalism, how serious they are about their job and how they were trained. I can tell who is really trying to help me and who is looking at me with a $$$$$ sign in their eyes. How much can I make from this one!?

Just a FYI - not all agency locations are the same - so take some of these comments for what they may be - a place to vent. I have found Spherion to be pretty up front on what they can/cannot do. Unfortunately, their client base is over 20 miles from my home, so the job selection is usually pretty slim. However, they were great in critiquing my resume and interview style. Hang in there. Not everyone is the same. |
