Many of the comments that have been recently posted amount to little more than name calling - unnecessary and unproductive. Recruiters, like anyone else, fall into the category of professional and unprofessional. You, as the candidate, should interview the recruiter before you allow the recruiter to present you. Ask them how long they have worked for a particular firm and how long in the industry. If there is a big gap ask how many firms they have worked for and why they would choose one firm over another. Ask how many job orders are freshly posted at their office each week, whether they have an outside sales force generating job orders, and how many job orders are third party. Do your own research about your field - example there is a 20% annual shortage of healthcare professionals compounded over a 10 year period in Florida - from a survey of 218 Florida Hospitals. If a recruiter cannot place you in this market and you have the appropriate credentials then find another recruiter or contact the Hospitals directly. Finally, a forum like this is meant to share experiences and information, so there really is no reason for name calling. |

I think people are sharing experiences, some good but mostly bad. When I called them about an advertisement I too interviewed them and did not like their answers and said no thanks. But you are right it is important to interview the placement agency and not take them at face value. |
