I have been invited to interview with Spherion to find myself asked to answer questions like: 1) What other staffing companies are you talking to right now? 2) What are they offering you in compensation, 3) How is the job search going for you? 4) Who is the hiring manager over there? ....Yes very degrading!!! Please know I bring exceptional experience and qualifications and the hiring manager closing the interview with a statement like this; " Well I know a few boys in another firm and there is someone from that firm I will extending an offer . And after I send a courtesy " thank you note", I was informed they new hire is working out very well.... A week later there is a new posting for the same position and so I called the hiring manager and he tells me that it was an error! Okay well here we are a month later and they are running the position again for an IT Account Executuive position in Maitland, FL....Yes I am scratching my head... Can anyone tell me what is going on? Is this a joke? I am trying to locate a position where I can put my experience to work to become a valued contributor to an organization. Can someone provide me some insight what is happening here? |

I would make a simple suggestion - use Hoovers.com, Manta.com or Infogrid.com to profile the type of company you would like to work for, get the contact information and contact them directly. In the example you gave, perhaps you are outside the pay range, perhaps the position has been filled, perhaps an offer has been extended and not yet accepted, perhaps the position does not really exist, or any of a myriad of other potential situations. One thing you might also try, (since Maitland is close to Orlando), is to contact Disney. They have a large IT organization but I do not know what the payscales are or what openings they might have that suits your experience. |

What is going on in the job market? I am an experience older worker and look good at least 20 yrs younger. I am going back to school for my degree, but in the meantime I need a real job to pay for my new car and mortgage. I am on the brink of filing bankrupt soon. Noone is willing to give ME a chance. Atlanta Job market is full of crap and swindlers and liars. |

Hi Atlanta Mome: I understand how you are feeling right now. I also have been out of work for almost 1 year. This has affected every aspect of my life. Most importantly, financially. In my wildest dreams, I never imagined being in this situation especially since I have always been a successful sales professional and I still am not able to gain employment. I was part of a mass layoff with Verizon Business(10,000 employees and no it was not in the news anywhere...) last year. I had to collect unemployment as a way to pay some of my bills. I do not know all factes of your situation so I will make suggestions based on my personal situation. First and foremost since you are on the brink of foreclosure; consider these:

I realy appreciate your thoughts, Most of your tips I have used, no cable, no land line phone. no internet access, no hairstylist,no manicures, (had one pedicure to last all summer hopefully.) Rarely eat out at restaurants,no vacations for the past 2 years. Driving or flying is out of the question. Now my home and transportation is in jeophardy.Tell me about how the county can assist one in keeping their home. I want to work and maintain myself. Can you believe I am going on an interview 13th July with Verizon, was it a good company to work for, I will try it even if it is crap work for 12.50hr more than I make now. |

Dear Atlanta Mome: I will respond to both questions separately. With regards to working for Verizon. I assume that you are looking at a position in their Wireless division. I understand that Verizon as a whole is an amazing company to work for and they offer tremendous benefits . There are many career step opportunities provided that you continue to make a positive contribution. As for me, I was acquired by Verizon through MCI. When this process happened there were many positions that were duplicated and Verizon Business Division eliminated all positions that were duplicates. Most of the time, it was the MCI employee and not the Verizon employee that was laid off. As for the severance, they were very reasonable and from a company persspective went above and beyond what companies do for employees today. I can say...It is a great opportunity so GO FOR IT and Good Luck. It is a great opportunity. On the topic of mortgage/rental assistance, I will locate the information from a TV station website from here in central Florida and send in a separate note. There was a series about government assistance for individuals that are having financial difficulties. They will assist in paying your mortgage/rent to avoid foreclosure. |

Hello Atlanta Mome: The news article references resources specific to central Florida and I believe that you are in Georgia.
I am not familiar with your local municipalities; but it you contact the number provided on this website; they will evaluate your financial situation to determine which program you would fall under and can refer you to resources available in your local area. |

I recently had an interview with Spherion. I have the experience that the job requires but still the interviewer wanted me to do more to convince her that I wanted the job. I'm accustomed to interviewing people myself so I'm well equipped to sell my skills but I'm not at the point that I'm going to beg for a job. If my professional experience coupled with my professional corporate image isn't enough then I will conclude that there's another opportunity out there for me. I will have the job that I'm supposed to have. It will be a sweatless victory. I refuse to jump through hoops. |

Yeah, I agree most companies know that the job market is stale. I went to the employment office today, I felt like a low life, They had a job fair and there were hundreds of people lined up for a $10.00 hr job. You had to act unprofessional for the little kid (or should I say interviewer) to take your resume. I was not in the mood for joking around. If you're serious about finding a job in Georgia consider moving to another state, maybe the Northeast working for the Pentagon. |

Hi Atlanta Mome:
INTERVIEW PREP CLIFF NOTES:
What jobs have you liked the most? The least?
What was your best subject in school? Your worst?
Good Questions to Ask in a Job Interview Of course, after all the questions interviewers ask you, you get to ask some as well (in fact, they expect it, so having a few ready is a good idea.) We've assembled some of the questions job applicants ask most often here. Can you describe an ideal employee?

Wow! They are paying $10.00 an hour in Atlanta. This past Sunday; Disney World ran an ad in the Orlando Sentinel that they were looking for Bus Drivers for $7.92 an hour. And WalMart is hiring greeters for $7.00. Oh yes; and thanks for the tip with Pentagon Job Opportunities; I am going to check their website to see if they have any home office arrangements... ( you know ...trying to save on gas and all that!) All The Best ,

Spherion in FL is horrible, if you have friends just tell them NOT to use this agency, is the only way to fight against mediocre agencies and stop their abuse. |

I relocated here from another state and got laid off two months after I relocated. I have been on about 5 interviews, all which I am totally qualified for. I am a Recruiter with about 3 years of experience, but after the interviews, I have not gotten any call backs. A guy from Spherion told me that he would call and do a phone screening, left 3 messages for him, to date he has never returned my call. A Recruiter from another staffing agency called from ThinkResources in response to my resume, tried to reach her 3 times and she never returned my call. At this point I am very sorry that I have relocated here to Atlanta. The job market is the pits. Not to mention they were offering me wages that I was making as a customer service rep about 10 years ago. I am seriously thinking about moving back home, I just will have to try and convice my husband to want to do the same. |

You dont want to work there. Their system is broken. They micro-manage you. You must make 50 calls a day; 250 per week. They post the results for the whole office to see. They should be hiring people with drive tha dont need to be mirco-managed. |

Host said: Do you work at Spherion? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Don't do it. Worst company to work for. I took a job at Spherion Headquarters and it was a terrible experience. I was desperate for work and I would have been better off staying at home. I'm writing this to try and save someone else from making the same mistake. From start to finish they are a bad company. They don't care about their employees, they are inefficient, unprofessional, don't pay what the employees are worth, and haven't given a raise or even a review in years. The list goes on and on. Google some reviews of working at Spherion and see for yourself. Not everybody can be wrong. |
