What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable?

How does Sprint stack up against the competition?

From my understanding they are laying off 5,000 people because last year was so bad!! I wouldn't work for them ever again. The right hand dosn't know what the left is doing. It was a terrible place to work. I don't care how good the money is, quality of life is more important.

Since Sprint merged with Nextel they are horrible and they are in the process of going through layoffs. Save yourself time and money and stay away from this failing company. I worked for them from 2000-2006 and I can tell you from experience Management sucks. They give you unrealistic goals to meet.. I definitely think they made poor business decisions and its showing now.. Dont waste your time

I agree with Jay. I was one of the 5000 they laid off last month. They are taking the assistant manager out of every store who's goal is less than 200 per month. I started with Nextel in 2001, and it was fine. After the merge, everything has fallen apart. I am currently looking for a job.

I agree with comments above. As a Nextel manager I was forced into sprint. The promise of better bonus and bigger salary was all a lie. DM only cared about keeping his nose clean and took all the credit for work the managers did. I worked there 4 years and saw things go from bad to worse. Customer service was recently rated #1 worst in country on MSN!!!! The HR dept. only hiring PT to save $$$$. They are in panic mode and are not acting proactivly and it shows!!

I have a very close "buddy" that use to work at sprint, for over 6 years. He hated it! Got tired of people coming in and yelling at him, saying things like..."hey you blank blank! Y'all better fix this blank blankin phone!!"
He is now happily working for a insurance company and loves it!! He is SO happy to be out of there, he now has a new "glow" about him!

Sprint is an interesting situation. You can make a lot of $$ on the retail side, but be prepared for irate customers -- overall the customer service is lacking within the company.

If you're looking to get hired on the corporate office side, don't hold your breath. They are CONSTANTLY hiring people, sure, but generally they are only hiring contract employees. You sign a contract for anywhere from 3-12 months and when it expires, you're a goner. Why? You were only hired on to complete a project... once it's done, you're finished there.

Here's the problem -- they don't TELL people that. They tell you it's contract to hire. Unfortunately, it's rare that they hire on full-time after the contract expires.

My advice? Stay clear.
