I am applying for a position in San Jose and am preparing for the Gallup test. It looks like those questions are quite tricky. I really don't want to miss the opportunity just because I don't answer some of the questions properly. Can people do me a favor by sending me some questions you remember. My email is 95134 @at@ gmail.com. I will really appreciate that.

The comments in this forum are almost bipolar, those who passed and those who failed ! But I want to draw your attention to a serious problem - the policy stryker have had globally. How can you select a R&D Engineer through Gallup? This is the reason why positions are kept open for many months. Wastage of valuable time and resources. On the other hand it keeps much more talented persons away. I think it is a high time for stryker to rethink about their recruiting process. After all Gallup is not bigger than stryker. The major companies evaluate an experienced person by the ability and past experience unlike stryker. Any one can fool you on his day by smartly giving painted answer to too general questions.

This is very well said and accurate. There are temps who have worked with a manager for years. If they don't "pass" the Gallup, they can't get hired and can never get hired for that position! So, they've proven themselves in many ways over years and can't become a permanent employee with benefits. It's funny, but the more I write here, the more I realize just how crazy a company it is!

Well, I passed the Gallup according to my replacement recruiter. My original went on Maternity Leave the day after I interviewed with her. I showed "excellent leadership skills and very solid-logical reasoning and the even Larry the Gallup Guy said I was on it"

Do you all see the GREAT BIG BUTT looming ahead in the distance? RIGHT FULL RUDDER!!!! That said, I am overqualified for the Integration Specialist position I applied for that is OPEN and roughly 20mins from where I am moving to in Los Angeles. So since my results were not a "perfect fit", Stryker will be looking for other, better opportunities for me that are a "perfect fit". Of course none of those exists at this time so my application will be on file blahblahblah. Its very disheartening to exceed what was asked for and yet not get hired and be given the chance to navigate the company once inside for better opportunities.

At this point, my wife starts school in less than a month and I need to be able to move with her and work. I see what many have said about Stryker leaving many excellently qualified people behind in their quest for furthering employee eugenics. Best of luck to all of you and keep in touch.

Do you all remember that German wacko back in 1936 also looking for/ to create perfect people???

Good Afternoon everyone!

I have been trying to get into Stryker for over six months now then out of the blue I got a phone call telling me to call back at my earliest conveinence for a phone interview. I have now called back the last two days and just keep leaving messages - is this normal? I have read all the posts here and thank God the recruiter didn't answer the phone when I called I would've had no idea. I did my homework on the structure of Stryker and the selection process but not about Gallup and I am in complete agreement it is not something that you can study from it is your personality type and how driven you are. So with that said I am just going to keep calling everyday until she answers. Wish me luck!!

I am a 13 year past employee due to relocation. If you are looking for a 40 hour a week job I suggest you keep job hunting. You are expected to support your team, bottom line, no compliants. If it requires all weekend so be it. Ship dates and end-of-the-month are your new best friends. Now, for the fun. Stryker is a generous employer. The mgt.is great, opportunities are endless, you write your own ticket.I hope this environment is what you have been told. Enjoy!

Thanks for your comments - I finally got a hold of the rep that called me and she set me up for a phone interview with a Human Resource representative for this Thursday at 2 they told me that it would take 30-40 mins I am thinking that this is the pre Gallup interview. After reading ALL of the posts here I personally feel that this is a great place to advance if you are willing to put in the extra hours. I used to be a Real Estate Appraiser and worked constantly, however no benefits and strict commission took it's toll especially when the market crashed. I then turned to Commerce bank where I took every class that they had to offer, and after all the hard work they said ok here is an extra $.25 an hour. And they worked you to death and all you ever hear is constant negatively all day long and everyone is in their early 20's, which wouldn't be such a problem if the mature level matched. So I am looking for a career change and am extremely driven, have no children and am willing to go the extra mile now I just have to see if I fit the Stryker mold. I bought this great book which was a reasonable $12.00 called Strength Finder and it has really taught me alot it is from the creator of the Gallup system and you get to take a test online and it tells you your strengths.

Stryker actually requires all employees to participate in the Strengthfinders Survey. Your top 5 strengths are used for teambuilding, bottom 5 are areas that are not benifitial for Stryker to put you in those situations. These actually become part of your personnel file and used for reviews. You are on the right track. Always volunteer for any claases, or offsites they offer. They always pay all expenses and it goes in your personnel file. Good luck.

Thanks again I had no idea that you actually take the survey. They list my top five strengths as : Focus, Competition, Maximizer, Strategic, and Achiever. I am looking forward to the phone interview and see where it goes my attitude is if it is meant to happen it will. When reading the book I loved where it states the old mantra "you can be anything you want if you put your mind to it" and how unrealistic that statement actually is.

I have a question about recruiters? I recently took the Gallup for the medical division and passed. I have a f2f interview coming up. I am really excited, but I recieved another call from a different recruiter trying to get me to interview for a different division in a different city. The problem is, that my first recruiter told me I can not interview for different divisions at the same time. I really like my first recruiter and do not want to cause any conflicts. My second recruiter assured me you can interview with different divisons at one time. The second recruiter has a great position in a city I would love to move to. Does anyone have any advice? I don't won't to get in a position where I don't get either job because of using two recruiters for the same company.

I agree with Blee in saying that they don't consider applicants without a college degree, but I can only speak for Endoscopy, not Medical. Are they aware of that? If they are but you've gotten as far as to getting a f2f, then hey, good for you! :)

These posts have been very amusing.
I can see getting worked up for your "dream job", but there are many other fish in the sea. Yes its true, Stryker sales people make huge coin, but it is not a typical sales job. For every person that "makes it", several will wash out. I can see getting pumped for a high six figure income, but for those who are getting worked up for landing the support rolls, its not any better than any of the other major players out there. If people on this post spent half the time making contacts and researching other major companies as they do trying to get questions from the Gallop Test, you would find out that there most likely are many other excellent jobs out there. There are other players that offer rapid advancement to quality employees.
If you are a quality employee you will do just as well at other good companies, quit sweating the interviews and be yourself. You can't prepare for a Stryker interview. Be genuine or you will wash out even if you get in!
Be prepared if you get the offer, you will be forced to drink the Koolaid!
And most of all, remember the Koolaid goes down better with a shot of vodka.

yes you can apply for numerous positions among the different divisions-I've met a few people who have done this. Stryker is a huge company--Don't openly let either recruiter know that you're doing it but if they ask be honest and play dumb--you can always say i didn't know that i couldnt and that you wanted to get into stryker so bad that you applied to numerous positions and would be happy to work in either position.

remember, this is about you and getting yourself into stryker, not worrying about either recruiter. trust me, if u do bad in an itnerview along the way they'll drop you in a second so don't think that their your bestfriend...their getting paid to place you and paid very well i imagine if you get all the way..

goodluck

Good Afternoon! Just finished my phone interview and my experience was very different from what has been posted. I wasn't going for a sales position is maybe why it was so different. I am taking an online assessment test for Microsoft Office, then if I meet the requirements I move onto the infamous Gallup. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Hi, I've been reading your posts and I will hopefully have a phone interview for a position in the New Orleans/LA area. I read from one of your posts that you were being relocated to southeast Florida. Are you working in that area now? Also, did you get the ASR position?

I know on the Stryker website that they have recently posted a sales assoc. position w/ the med division (in Ft. Lauderdale/West Palm). Do you need prior sales experience, etc???? Thanks for any help/advice you can give!

Btw, thanks for all of your posts....they are helpful!

Toni,

Yes, I did relocate (unassisted) and I am working in that area now where I did get the position--however, that sales assoc position w med is not associated with what I do. Stryker is a HUGE company and that's a different division-I'm in instruments. As for needing sales experience from my own experience and knowledge-YES, you needed 1-2 years of sales experience and a 4 year degree. If you don't have any sales experience than they look at you for a marketing associate--that's entry level for people with not sales experience and tends to be a 2-3 year (typically, not always) program before you'll get promoted and get your own territory (at least that's how I can say it works in our division)--sales associates are 1-2's and you are slightly more involved on the sales side of the cycle w/ the local rep you'd work with.

My advice to you is to keep looking up info about stryker and at the posts (most of them at least--quite a bit of negative comments i would personally ignore)-I love this company and my job and have never been happier or more fortunate...and lastly, just put your head down and go because you're in for one hell of a ride.

Goodluck,

Ok, thanks for the advice....yes a lot of these comments are pretty negative. However, I know a couple of people who work for Stryker and love it--not to mention they are extremely successful.

Unfortunately I don't have any sales experience, but I did graduate this past December with a marketing degree. Also, I don't think I've ever seen any job postings through their website for a marketing position???? I could be wrong, but just don't remember them. Would you happen to know the med division's sales rep or DM's name?

BTW it's always nice to get someone's help and/or advice when job searching, especially right now when the job market is extremely tough. It seems like some people forget how it is being young, fresh out of college and wanting a career—and don't really care to give insight to those who are.

Thanks again!

Heya all -

I'll be graduating in December, and I recently applied for a Marketing Associate position in Kalamazoo. I had the phone interview on Friday, which took my off guard - I had done my research on the company, but wish I had found this site to be better prepared for the interview. Expected it to be more about my experiences and why I'm good for the job, not a yes/no analysis, but no big deal.

Was just wondering, I've read multiple opinions on how long it takes them to get back to you. I think my interview went fairly well, however like many said it was sort of like talking to a robot. Although the interviewer was very kind, hard to judge how I actually did. The interview was on Friday and at the end she said she'll review it and get back to me within a week.

If I haven't heard back by Monday, is that most likely a bad sign? Do they normally call you to let you know, or send you an email? Thanks in advance for any advice.

This is most likely not a good sign. When I had my phone interview, they told me immediately I was on to the next round. There is no concrete answer for you though. You may have had a newer HR rep who needed the extra time. They may want to talk to the hiring manager first, who knows.
If you don't land it the first go around, move on as there are several players out there who are every bit as good to work for if you seek rapid advancement.
Good luck!

Macro - thanks a bunch for the advice. Guess I can just hope for the best, and if not life goes on. Do you have any suggestions for other positions to look at? I've hunted around the other big names in the industry, but its hard to find out what position is possible to get into directly out of college, yet still feeds into the sales industry after some years of work. Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

I received an offer from Stryker(Kalamazoo) one week ago and accepted it. I was told to wait for background and drug testing to clear before I am informed of the next step. I know I passed the drug test and have no criminal record, so why is it taking so long to let me when I can relocate. What do they look for in the background that is taking so long.

Right, if you don't pass the gallup, you don't move on in the process. No exceptions. Sucks, but that's the way it is.

I will be going there in a few weeks. I have been really impressed with the people at stryker and how helpful and supportive they have been. I have regular contact with employees that have been involved in my hiring process and am really excited about working for them.

if anyone has questions i would be more than happy to answer. I wrote down about 50 of the questions i remembered from the gallup interview and my answers but am hesitant about posting them because I am afraid people will just copy my answers and I truly believe that you need to be yourself. But, as far as general advice like being concise i would be more than happy to help out.

Everyone keeps posting requests to have the Gallup questions sent to them so they can study. Honestly, if you did a Google search on "interview questions", the results you find will not differ much from those on the Gallup. Plus, it's not a standard test with the same X number of questions. If you know yourself, know your strengths, and are able to sell those strengths, you'll do well. If you naturally have what Stryker is looking for, you will be graded as an A candidate and move on. If you don't, you will not move on. It's that simple. The best prepared, practiced, canned answers will not guarantee success. Not trying to be mean, just giving the honest truth!

StaceLee in Portage, Michigan said: If I had a phone interview with Stryker a few years back for an internship position, but did not make it past that point, am I able to interview for a full time position?

first case31--I couldn't agree with you more...people don't seem to understand that even if you were to get the q's ahead of time to prep and additional get the "answers" that stryker would still sift you out because you either are what they're looking for or you're not (and if you somehow made it through and got hired, eventually things wouldn't work out and you'd most likely get let go)...it's one of those things in life that you either have "it" or you don't...sorry, not gonna sugar coat things..

As for your comment stacelee, It depends if you were given a Gallup test. I know for a fact that if you were given the gallup back then and you didn't pass the Gallup, than unfortunately you have no chance. I actually asked my manager that exact question and he said that Stryker believes that the Gallup measures what innate qualities you possess and they don't believe you can change...again, it's either in you or it's not....so I don't want to say it's not worth it to apply and maybe slip through, but I can tell you if you took the Gallup just don't get your hopes up...

regardless, best of luck.

It's possible to still be considered. The gallup does look at your personality traits to see how you compare to their top producing reps. I assume that when you were going for your internship, you did not have a lot of work experience. Then say you got a sales job out of school, got some training, had great numbers, and applied again, it is possible that your views of yourself and how you fit as a Stryker employee have changed.
I don't know for sure if your gallup results have an "expiration date", but they should. Work experience, no matter where you work or what you do, change your priorities, goals, focus, etc. in many ways...sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. I've been out of college for 8 years now, and for me personally, I know that my traits and priorities have changed dramatically since then.

Host said: It's always hard to know what to expect when going in for that interview -- and preparation can make all the difference. What is the interview process like at Stryker?

Any advice on striking the right note?

The phone interview asks the same 25 questions 3 times in different ways. So technically it ends up being about 75 questions. They say that you have an hour to answer the questions, but it's better to answer them fast. I did very well on my gallup interview (scored higher than anyone else in my department). To prepare I would suggest that you sit down with a friend and come up with some solid examples of instances in your life where you: helped people, faced adversity, convinced people of something, what are the qualities of a good manager, what is common sense, does that describe you, when did you persuade someone to do something, had a belief that was against the majority, do you trust others to do your work. Basically you should be quick on your feet with the answers. This test wants type A personalities, so don't be whimpy-ex-military is heavy in the building. So as you can imagine a work environment with nothing but type A personalities (MEN) is a terrible place to work! Apparently from the results of my gallop and the fact that I had the unfortunate misfortune of getting the job, I am alledgedly a type A personality. I cannot speak for departments like sales, marketing, and HR, however I can speak for any position having anything to do with manufacturing RUN RUN LIKE THE WIND AND NEVER LOOK BACK!!!!! Stryker rewards people who have been there for a long time and put in time and energy, not necessarily the best educated or the best qualified individuals (alot of state school degrees up in there!). It is a sausage party so women beware! Their HR department needs to do more about the brut men running around that place, it's terrible for women they treat you like you are an idiot & a waste of time 4 women lookin 2 exce

This is UNBELIEVABLY accurate of the Mahwah facility. Since you're in Rockland County, NY, I'm sure that's the location you work/worked out of as well. I would also most definitely agree with your statment that getting the job was an "unfortunate misfortune." That's dead on and how most new hires will feel for themseleves soon enough. That's certainly how I felt less than 1 week into the job... You are also exactly right about their not hiring the best educated or qualified. It's about the ability to give up your life and become a Stryker clone. As I've said before, I REALLY wish I'd come across this website before accepting the position. What a backtrack in my career progression.

Hello Mahwah Employee,
I've passed the Gallup and will now interview for an RA position next week. Any advice for the face-2-face?

Good Afternoon All,

Many of you have mentioned how happy you are to be currently working with Stryker. I have my four year degree in finance, 4 years sales success, evidence to back-up said successes, etc. I've applied numerous times on the website as well as other career sites (which I know typically is ineffective) with no response. The best way I've found to get a job interview is to reach out to a recruiter. However, I cannot seem to find any information on recruiters for Stryker sales! Does anyone have a contact for recruitment? I'd really appreciate anyone's help. I understand that many times employees are not comfortable giving this information away... however, I'd gladly reference you as a referral if I were fortunate enough to get an interview!

Did you take a short preliminary questionnaire when you applied?

You know, I don't believe so!

Truthfully, I was applying last month feverishly. I didn't see any response to my applications so I decided to rededicate myself to my current job and slow on the job search. I'm not certain how long the division of the corporation I currently work for will remain in Tampa so after some thought I'm again proactively searching. The last situation I want to be in during these economic times is in-between jobs.

Hello all -

I have a phone interview with Stryker in a few days for a healthcare systems specialist and a marketing rep position. I have seen a lot of information on here regarding interviews for sales/engineering positions but not too much info about the ones i'm interviewing for. Any tips/help would be appreciated as I want to be fully prepared. Thanks a bunch!!!!

I just finished the gallup interview today and it did not feel as difficult as I expected. Just be your self and time went fast and ended before you noticed even that.

After the gallup interview the gallup guy said he will send the result to Stryker the same day and I would expect the recruiter call me back in 2~3 business days. Is that means I have passed the gallup interview? Or just a normal process after the interview and wait for stryker to tell you the result? Does stryker inform you if you did not pass the gallup interview?

Thanks!

So I have read all the good (too few) and the bad (too many) reviews of the Mahwah NJ office.

I have a phone interview in a few days - are there any good Mahwah stories? Is the negativity true or from a few area competitors?
