What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable? How does SunTrust Bank stack up against the competition? |

SunTrust announced that they would achieve an $850 million savings by firing people in sales. They cut the commission structure and are firing the salespeople who are earning the higher commissions and plan to bring in new people not used to earning as much. SunTrust courts prospects and upon hiring, treats them like they are stupid, doing a bad job, and that each day is probably your last. They do not want employees to learn and grow. They are just looking for "bodies". They use up people and throw them away. |

I agree. I was working for suntrust and they put so much pressure for you to sell, but don't want to pay you anything. If you are a sales pro used to making high commissions, you can forget it at suntrust. They think $200 is "great" commission and people that don't know any better get excited. You're also more in meetings than you're on the phone. To any real sales rep out there, RUNNNNNNNNNNNN!! Dont believe their hype. Their way of rewarding you is by giving you chips and telling you you can wear jeans for a day. VERY SAD |

How do they treat non-sales related employees? |

Yeah. I agree. I worked for SunTrust in a mid-level management role. How you are treated depends entirely on your manager and your relationship with him or her. Their hiring practices suck too. For management roles, they already have their candidates picked out from the beginning. In my role, I had to do many interviews for what they called "HR" reasons. "HR" reason interviews are interviews where you interview unqualified candidates for a job knowing fully well that they won't be hired because management has already picked out their candidate. You don't call in the qualified candidates because then you have to justify why you didn't hire them. From my experience, this happens elsewhere too. In fact, I know for a fact that Wachovia does this too. And if you get RIF'ed (Reduction in Force), then forget about interviewing for other jobs within SunTrust, unless you know the hiring manager. When I got RIF'ed, and was given 60 days notice, I was told flat out by HR that I would get no preference to external candidates when applying for internal jobs. So much for encouraging loyalty. If you get a job with SunTrust, take what you can and move on to something better. |
