Do you work at Superior Lamp? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

Superior Lamp compamy will eat you up and spit you out, that is what they do. After you begin prospecting in earnest you will to feel the strain of hearing NO on a regular basis. Now that of course is the way of sales, you have to hear a lot of NO's before you hear a YES but they provide no salary, draw, expense account, leads, current accounts, etc. Why? Because the active accounts either belong to some salesman outside of your area ( accounts are protected not a region ) or the sales man who set them up is gone, most likely and they have become house accounts. You can take over a house account If You Find It but that was what the in house trainers manage as their income.

Are you with me? They will ask you to go find 100 places that,"would be interested in saving money on lighting" or some thing like that. The trainer comes out and helps you close a couple. But he gets paid for the accounts, they are yours, if they ever order again. Then you have a certain time to go sell some one else to double your commission. Where did you do all of this? Close to home? Remember as time goes on you will have to go further and further to get to new areas and promising prospecting places. The cost of fuel, cell phone, automobile expense becomes a burden and about 95 % of sales people will fall out and now all you accounts become house accounts.
This is a very cheap way for the company to secure an active and ongoing account base. They promise residual sales but they will get upset if you go back and get a second sale. They want you on the HUNT for new business only. They will tell you, you will get a trip to THE HOME OFFICE where a trainer will help you contact your accounts for a another order but the rules on what it takes to get to THE HOME OFFICE will continue to change and I never did get there with 72 open accounts.
Then there is those SALES AIDS and that SCRIPT. If you are not closing enough sales it is because you didn't say the script correctly.

I did have fun, I was able to get inside some very interesting places. I was able to meet with a lot of great people that was interested in this type of product. But my god the cost on these products are very high! I was told to get out on more than one occasion. Orders were canceled when the buyer, office manager, owner saw the cost and said no!

You have competition with M E and H&H they sell the same thing, the same way. All of this business has been going on for a long time and a lot of places have heard the routine and will have no part in it.

You may be part of the 5% that can make it! Just go hit 20-25 fresh accounts every day, do what they say no matter how crazy it sounds and keep a great attitude. Give them the sales aid, give a way the shipping, cut the order in half ask them what lighting supply they use the most, seel them that. Think on your feet. But keep in mind while you are out there that you have a great chance to see other business, do they need a sales rep?
