Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at SYKES? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at SYKES? |

Sykes Enterprises is a company that has several office buildings in the Phillipines, China, Russia, India, and even the UK. They go to big companies (any company you name is in their pocket) and they wine and dine them and present them a program to save them lots of money. How? They call employees seats and they show how they can eliminate 200 seats in CT and replace them with 200 seats in India or the Phillipines for only $1.82 an hour. Call any company and you will get one of Sykes' trained $1.82 seats. The VPs and high ups make millions of dollars just going around the country talking companies into eliminating "seats" The owner of Sykes is an American who contributes to Bush's campaign (big time) and is not only a strong republican but pushes his Baptist Church at you as well. Only his Baptist Church has two churches. One is exclusive for the rich and then there is one in the city for the poor. |

In fact, the main reason their turnover is so high is a result of the unbearable working environment. They do not value most of their employees and do not treat others with respect. Management is lacking the necessary skills to keep employees happy and motivated. I would not recommend Sykes to anyone. |

I worked at Sykes for a few years, just before they hit the big securities fraud in the late 90's (they cooked the books, not a surprise to any of the employees). I'm not sure if their stock recouped, but it went all the way down to about $2. Sykes has closed many (maybe all) call centers in the US and opened them in India and other "cheaper" countries. At the time I worked there, lost of upper management were cousins, or married to each other and came from a southern state... There was a lot of work, but also a lot red flags (their managers never trained for management, really)... So, there was a bit of this and that, and perhaps unethical business management. Things might have changed, but I doubt the big guys have... Afterall, when the big &%$# hit the fan about the securities fraud, nobody was fired from upper management!!! |

The culture seems to be one of lowered expectations...I interviewed a long time ago with them for a manager level job, and 4 weeks after the interview, sent a polite email to the person who had initially recruited me. I never heard back from this person, nor the individuals who interviewed me at the site. I guess I can assume that I didn't get the job?! Kinda unprofessional, if you ask me... |
