Does anyone know about a policy which forbids relatives working under the same director? |

Most companies have policies prohibiting the placement of people who are related in a position where one of them is the direct superior of the other. They generally extend that to a situation such as you describe. If a husband and wife were in a high level management position and either of them had a reasonable chance of being promoted to become the direct superior of the other, it would cause great problems both in their personal lives and at work. When I was in the corporate world (circa 1965) there was a policy that even if one person from a group of his/her peers was promoted to a supervisor or manager of the group he/she came from, the individual was given the promotion but transferred to another city for the job. The idea was to prevent the new supervisor or manager from having the uncomfortable situation of suddenly being the superior of his/her peers the very next day. It also prevented any hint of favoritism when it came time to promote or fire someone in his/her group of subordinates. |
