Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at TJX Companies? Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers? What is a typical day in the life of an employee at TJX Companies? |

Company is going through a lot of changes and layoffs. Culture is changing and not for the positive. It used to feel like family now it feels like inlaws. Employees discouraged from hanging out on Fridays. |

TJX is a large company with serveral holds all using the same H.R. Department. This is a bargin basement line of store with a good mass media marketing agent hitting their target demographic shopper. With that said they are low end store with pie in the sky dreamers of being something else. For Managers they require a B.A. or better with years of experience. What they are willing to pay is a buck tooth kid with jacket and tie. Most of the store mangement are just using TJX as a stepping stone to a real career. If your just finished college and worked your way thourogh college selling cell phone or clothing you find this company a good starting point. |

I don't agree there. Sure, there are some things to be desired, and let's be honest, sometimes the job can be pretty disappointing (Customers are cruel, and sometimes Management is off in Laa Laa Land, while the higher-ups shout their orders having yet to set foot in a Winners or HomeSense in Canada). However, the Associate culture is excellent--everyone in my workplace pulls together, and we're all pretty friendly with one another. It makes it enjoyable, even if it's notwithstanding, rather than due to, the job. |

Big Bonus to TJX: family atmosphere and extreme flexibility in getting time off. Can sometimes negotiate your schedule. Other times, some people get stuck working every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and can't get them to change. Downside: Corporate doesn't care about you or their customers. It took 6 years, but I finally realized that everything that made the job harder than necessary came from them. Won't give payroll necessary to keep enough associates, refuse to buy software that would make cashier's jobs easier and faster for the customer. Etc, etc. More importantly, you get paid crap and are expected to do everything you can think of in retail. You're responsible for merchandise, register, processing truck, clean up, etc. Anything. You can get paid more elsewhere for an easier job. Not the worst place to work for, by any means, especially if you have a difficult schedule. But you can definitely find better, even at shoe stores and paint centers. |

I have worked for TJX for several years and think it's a great place to work for. All three of the stores I have worked at provide great flexibility in hours. I also know that they do not require any college degree to move up into management. I personally know of a few managers with nothing beyond a high school diploma. The store's I have worked for have been good for people who just want a side job or part-time job to make extra money, people who want to use their experience as a stepping stone, and people who wish to move up in the company. |

This is the worst, most unprofessional place I have ever worked at. Watch out for their new "Best" Program. You know the one that makes you get timed on how much merchandise you get out in an hour, not to mention answer customer calls, backup on register, wait on the customers, reconfigure shelves, cubes, tables, endcaps, put up signage, sweat like a pig etc. As a Coordinator you are required to get an overstuffed tank (wheeled cart) of product distributed onto the floor (to standard) in an hour. Then when you can barely do that, they say faster, faster, faster. No matter what you do, how the bottom line increases, how much you sacrifice, it is never good enough. And forget about getting pay raise. You have to be there a year before you get any time off and then you get a meesley 25 cent raise, after being faulted for the smallest of idiocincrecies. There is always a fire to be put out, discontentment between the employees because they are all over worked (that is the ones that aren't out on workmens comp) and NEVER enough staff employed. This company is the epidemy of greed at it's finest. They don't appreciate how hard the employees are working. They make you think you have something to get promoted to, when in actuality it is very probable that is not going to happen. Believe me, they will lead you on. Being a Coordiantor at HomeGoods is hard, back-breaking, physical labor because they make their core workers have too much responsibility, all the while asking for more, more, more. Especially when someone quits - they don't replace them - they just let the disfuction keep compiling. This place is a blue collar, sweat shop filled with angry people who used to be nice before they went to work for TJX. They turn good into ugly. I am warning you, don't even apply. Shame on you TJX for abusing your worker bees! I am not sure if I should call the fire department on you or Amnesty International. Your cutbacks will bite you in the end with all of the injuries your employ! |
