I have sent at least 3 resumes to this company and took the quizes required and I haven't heared a thing from this company about my resume. I am in desperate need of a job and I need to find one as soon as possible. If they are hiring why dont they get back to people who are willing to do anything to get to work?

Well, danielle23, there are so many people without jobs, but I hate to tell you this, sometimes your resume ends up in the recycling bin, unfortunateley we are under the mercy of the HR or recruiter mood.

hello, i feel you frustration. i hunt these ad's everyday, i can tell you that if you don't fit their mold- and it is a weird mold, then , they will not hire you. i see the other responses that from other frustrated applicants here also. i have a job, but i am still looking for something more family friendly. i wasted a lot of time with interviews with this company, only to be blocked by the last interview with a regional director whom thought a lot of himself, and that did not like someone whom had her own opinions and spoke her own mind. i wish you luck in your search, but don't waste another breath on this company, they are not worthy of you.

I understand your frustration too. It would not hurt for you to call back the company and speak to the person who is in charge of the hiring and ask for an interview. OR check the status of the current position/and ask questions. Next send them another cover letter outlining your skills and enthusiam about this company and the current position and how you would be an asset to them! I know persistance pays ;so keep your chin up and make it happen!

I have tried everything but when I call to talk to anyone I get an automated thing. I never get to talk to a real person. I go to the us cellular here and they tell me to call the same number and it still doesn't work.

I am in a real big perdiciment.. See I recently got divorced from a guy who when I did have a job he got me fired by cursing at my manager or threatening me or cheating on me with a fellow employee and caused all kinds of problems. Then It got to where he wouldnt let me work, so now I dont have a great work record and I am now living with my parents who have tried helping me all they could and I have now been searching for a job for four months and Im about to loose my car and if I loose my car then I wont have anyway of getting a job or anything else and I will be kicked out on the street. I dont know what else to do. I have had a pretty hard life for two years and because of my mistake I am now paying for it in a huge way. I am only 23 years old and am running out of options. I am desperate for some job. Anyone have any suggestions on that? I am trying to rely on God to help me.

Is U.S. Cellular the only employer in the entire city that you live in?

If so, you should move.

Otherwise, find a different job. Show people you can do the jobs they need done.

If you can't actualy do anything useful, now would be a very good time to learn. You seem to be able to use a computer well enough to post here at least.

Additional advice. Crazy desperation does not go over well with most employers.

I would definately not let any employer see you sweat, if the sense that you are desperate, they will not hire you. What expierence do you have? Do you have a local employment agency that is government run near you? Jobs are very hard to come by where I am at, but not impossible. I also think alot of companies are not really interested in hiring until the new year is here. Also, I sell on ebay to make extra money, you can sell stuff you don't need anymore, just look at what others are selling and how they sell it. good luck, we are still searching to find my husband a job..not easy this time of year.

Your staffing Dr. Phil in Columbia, Maryland

I'm going to pick up where Bubba left off and share some additional staffing realities with a little Dr. Phil candor . . .

1) The organization's objective is to indentify and attract the most skilled talent, not get in touch with everyone and build their self esteem creating a ray of pseudo-hope.

2) In the employer's eyes "willing to do anything do get work" does not necessarily equate to "offers the skills and experience neccesary to help the department become more successful."

3) In a large company (which US Cellular is)based in a large market the volume of respondants dictates that an individual response is impractical if not improbable if not impossible.

4) I have not seen your resume, but should it resemble your writings here, I would rely a little more on Funk and Wagnals and a little less on God where your job search is concerned.

5) Why are you allowing one company to monopolize your energy and emotions? If you have attemmpted to interview and the answer is no (which seems pretty apparent in this instance) go knock on some other doors and dial some other phone numbers. The definition of insanity is doing something over and over again the same way but expecting a different result.

And just as Bubba questioned, is US Cellular the only employer in your area? Seems like there must at least be a Burger King . . . Taco bell . . . maybe a bowling alley.

Dear Pseudo-Dr. Phil, Very interesting...I suggest the next time you "ATTEMMPT" (sic) to tell someone to rely on their Funk & "WAGNALS" (sic) that you actually check your own spelling. By the way, what's wrong with the service industry? Hey, someone has to serve you your burgers and tacos and you could definitely use some balls. "Look THAT up in your Funk & Wagnalls!"

No its not the only employer in my city but I live in a really small town and there aren't many jobs availible here and I can not afford to move elsewhere. I am even trying for surrounding counties....

You can also look for part time jobs on Indeed. Click on the "Advanced Search" option under the Find Jobs button. There you will see a Job Type drop down option where you can pick Part Time. You can also choose this option on the left hand refinement margin of any job search you do

Since these losers fired me, I've come across the same issue. Because I AM an old lady, I';ve learned that if a company is so darn rude that they invite you to apply and then don't have the courtesy to at least say thanks but no thanks, you are better of without them. I field several calls like your question, and we didn't even have a person's extension to refer them to.

I have a similar problem. Most of the time they want someone with experience. If you do not have that, its hard to get a job. I have been search for like 8 months. If you are entry-level (like me), most of these jobs have gone to people that know someone or given to people that have interned with the company. You best bet is to explore as many company as possible and join professional organizations to build up a network (creed.)_

I am a former us cell employee, I guess that goes without saying, but as far as getting a job in a field you have no experience in, that is what I am working on now. What I've found is you may need to start at a company that isn't so big, and maybe doesn't pay as well. Im in the process of working my way up in my new field of choice, and am having to 'pay my dues" all over again, just as I did in child care and customer service.
Back in 1999 when I was hired, all the screening/interviewing was done by local coaches/managers, most of whom were people who had worked their way up from the positions they were interviewing to fill. They wanted experience, but were also saavy enough to recognize willingness to learn. Unfortunately, those days are gone.

As far as it taking a long time and not getting back to applicants--the hiring process at US Cellular is incredibly slow and they really are incredibly picky about who they hire to service their customers. It is interesting how selective they are but are willing to fire a lot of very good, and qualified individuals in middle management if you do not follow the yesmen above you...at least in the west region--other areas don't seem to have some of the same problems. There are a lot of very good things about the company--there are just some people who have been allowed to stay forcing out people who are independent thinkers and it is sad. To the woman who was desperate for jobs--have you ever thought of a temp agency? sometimes they send people out and if the company likes you then they will keep you on. You sound as if you have a lot of baggage. Most employers will not tolerate a lot of personal distractions on the job--US Cellular training is tough and time consuming--if you have a lot of personal life challenges you probably need to steer clear of the USCC environment. Good luck!
