Do you work at USAA? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Any advice for someone trying to get in? |

Hi Doreen! If you liked the atmosphere of taking one call after another, you may enjoy USAA. I have to tell you though, I applied and passed all of their tests until it came time for the "compatability test". We were basically told NOT to answer honestly and that we should answer how the company would want us to answer. They wanted you to answer the questions like there is nothing else on earth you would rather do than to do what you are told, not think out side of the box and take call after call. I answered honestly because that is the type of person I am, and was told, "You're not the right fit." Basically, I was too smart for the position! YIKES! I just wanted a job to kill time, but aparently they want lifers with no desire for upward mobility! Good luck. |

I applied through their career fair in Colorado Springs and passed all of their tests and passed, and am in the final stage of hiring now. As far as "being told to answer how the company wants you to answer", that was not what I was advised. It is a call center environment, and you will be doing nothing but taking call after call, and they will screen potential employees to make sure it is a fit for exactly that reason. I don't think it's a matter of whether or not people are too smart for the position, I am a college student that graduates in a few months- I think it's a matter of whether or not a call center is a good fit for your personality or not, and if it is, I say go for it, because their benefits are beyond belief in a day and age where most employers are cutting back. |

Jaymi in Scottsdale, Arizona said: i like working for this company. Give it time. The light will come on, or you may need medical assistance to help you cope with your regular life, when not working at USAA. You will probably enjoy the overtime. The bar is ever rising, keep jumping. |

USAA replied to my online application for a position in their Bank Origination Dept. They want to meet with me in Nov for an opening in January. Any advise or info reguarding pay etc. would really be helpfull to me...They didn't give any details about the job and I would probably fit into a few different areas. I wonder if its a call center deal...what departments offer the best pay...etc |

To USAA employees in Phoenix: I have heard that the beneifits are great. If you have kids and/or planning to have more children, do they have child care programs? Assistance and/or coverage for couples with infertility? Specifically in vitro fertilization. . . |

When you apply, know what company (department) you are applying for. If you are looking to be a financial advisor...financial plan, life insurance, will, emergency funds, ROTH IRA, 401K, general investment account, college savings...IN THAT ORDER! If you are straight out of college, then IMCO or P&C will probably be the intial route. Can't speak for them but life is great at USAA. Gets a bit dull with the same thing day in day out but like Jay said...benefits are beyond belief! There's also a big difference between working in a call center and being a student or a financial analyst...NO HOMEWORK BABY!! Happy hour every day after work! |

Check out the corporate culture forum before you decide to go to work for USAA. The company really went downhill and it will probably take another 10 years to undo the damage BD and his buddies did. |

Want a job in Information Technology at USAA? First requirement, you need to be a citizen of India. Here is the big question; do you want to move to the United States? The good news; USAA sponsors both state-side and work from India, so why not come-on over to the best country in the world, the good old USA. Second, you need to contact TATA and tell them you want to learn to be a programmer and are willing to move to Texas. Third, you need a visa...no worries TCS America and a few others get over 60% of the IT visas each year (minor formality). Now welcome to USAA; USAA Information Technology is primarily staffed by Indian workers; you'll feel very comfortable with your co-workers. You can expect free transportation to and from work (by foot). The safety of many guards with guns, lots of steel gates and big nice concrete buildings. Flexible work hours days, nights, weekends and even on US holidays. Texas & USAA are both "like a whole n'other country". Enjoy and have fun! US Citizens need not apply. These are not the statements nor facts of USAA or whatever the letters USAA mean. My suggestion is to do your own research and ask the tough questions. (Weasel words) wow, I have learned something from this company. |

I start soon and it is a contract to hire position. I realize that most of the dissatisfied people here work in the call center, but i would be interested to hear what the beef is with IT. It is my understanding that software development is hiring like crazy now. Does anyone have any insight on this? |

Unfortunately I can't help with any IT info, but if you can find a non call center position, I'd at least look into it. I did enjoy the pay and benefits, which is why it took me 8 yrs of agony before I could pull myself away from them. Hope all goes well with your quest. |

I would just apply online...the childcare is very expensive. When I worked there employees told me over half of their paycheck went to childcare. Not to mention the ghetto ass people they hired there, I used to see some things when I went walking during lunch....but CO may be different than Norfolk. Good luck in your job search. It is not so bad working there, you get a lot of great customer service experience. |
