If that is the case, how long could it possibly take to call me and say "thanks but no thanks"? no response whatsoever is inexcusably rude.

For me: 4 days. I seriously think it has to do with your interview. If they liked you they do the check and call you if not they are not liable to call you or contact you considering the background check is "still in process".

I had the first interview a week ago today- Sep 1, '09 and was told to go home and fill out my tax forms. Haven't heard anything since- about a second interview or background check.

I work with UPS, I'm a preloader on teh 2nd shift. It took 2 weeks for me to get accepted. It all goes by how many spots they have opened. If it's taking it a bit you either didn't get accepted (not easy to get with this company) or there are no spots open. Just check in on your app frequently to show them you're interested. talk to their HR

You have to call them, they will not call you. They LIKE to see someone is interested. they hate TEMP or people that wants to play games with a job they give out.

Most companies have not only one applicant but various applicants applying for the same job and position. You have to keep calling them and asking when the background will be already. Sometimes they have so many background checks that they forget to do a certain background check that they obviously forgot to get yours done in the process. If you want them to be on top of things and in your case you do, you need to call them and just point blank ask, what is the hold up in your (BC). Oh, and one more thing, no company will ever call you back too say that you don't have the job. Now days they call you only when you do have the job. But if not you can keep calling them and ask them, that shows persistency.

In my case, I am having to call more frequently, because the woman that works in HR's has forgotten to call me and ask me for my information. Therefore, I have to keep close contact so that they don't overlook my circumstances. It's all a really quick game, you have to keep at them and or at least, or until they hire you.

My husband applied back in early March for a rural mail carrier. He did the pre-screening, took the test and scored great, got an interview they said he was hired, he logged into the system and filled some paperwork out, had a background check, and did the drug test about 2 weeks ago. When he did the drug test they told him they were still waiting on 2 more background checks to come back, but hasn't heard anything since. He emailed the postmaster about a week ago, but hasn't gotten a response back. Is this just the typical waiting game or should he go down/call and be a bit more persistent about an update?

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

It usually takes longer for a background check if your background hasn't been extensively checked before. That's a state government job, so the background is going to be more thorough then he's ever had in the past. Patience I'm sure it'll be soon.

Thanks for your response. No, he has not had a government background check done before so that makes sense. He did end up calling the post master last week and they said it probably is still just the background check, but he should be hearing something about his carrier training anyway now.

I'm sure he'll do great in his new position. Just make sure you both always know your employment worker's laws. They are in place to help you. Best of Luck!

Thanks to everyone that responded. My husband did finally get his welcome letter in the mail and is heading to training soon. Just thought I would post this timeline for future lurkers with the same concern on their own status.

-My husband applied at USPS for a rural carrier on March 8th on the USPS website.
-Next day got offered to proceed with application process and took the personality quizzes.
-Took his address screening testing down at a USPS facility on March 13th and scored very well.
-Got called in for a face to face interview at the local facility around March 24th (I don't remember the exact date)
-Went and did the drug test about a week later (around March 28th). They told him they were still waiting for 2 more background checks to come back and he would hear something once they came back.

-May 8th he got his welcome letter in the mail saying everything came back and that he will be getting a call soon to go to his orientation/training.
-May 11th he is going down to get fingerprinted and get his orientation stuff.
-Orientation is scheduled for May 18th.

Hope this timeline helps others! It was a bit nerve wrecking not hearing anything for about a 1 1/2 months, but just be patient.
