Uh, Bro... you are in Minnesota. Govt. contract companies typically don't want to pay your relocation expenses. They never have, never will. That's why the jobs are contracted in the first place, to save govt. money.

They don't respond to applications. I have applied several times. I have worked for competitors and government agencies in similar positions, and get calls all the time from out of town. |

URS typically hires subcontractors. This is in keeping with the growing U.S. culture phenomenon of not having to provide any benefits. I too have applied twice and have received absolutely no acknowledgement. |

Jeremy in Farmington, Minnesota said: dont waste your time applying to this company, you will not get a response! Send a resume, don't go through the company website first. The people who will hire typically look at resumes submitted, not the applicants registered in the company website. In response to the comment below, URS is not "a gov't contract company". We do local & federal work as well as major projects for private industry. URS is a large company, has many offices and is growing. My office has been hiring like crazy recently and probably will continue--I hear the same story from other offices. I don't know what position you were applying for. It's possible that the office in MN had a glut of resumes for your field. If you really are interested in working at URS and are willing to relocate I'm sure you'd find an office interested in your resume and willing to contact you for an interview. Not getting a response to your application is not entirely unusual and typically you should expect only a small percentage of replies from the total number of resumes/applications you send out. It's just a fact of job hunting. In my case, I specifically remember I never got a reply from Tetra Tech when I first started job hunting, but I did get a reply from URS (Woodward Clyde at the time) and obviously got hired. I've been with them for almost 10 years now. Like every thing else in life, it's just a roll of the dice. Good luck to you all in your job searches! |

About relocation. I've relocated twice and both times had my relocation expenses paid for by URS. Typically it doesn't cover the whole move and it gets taxed, but that is something you can negotiate and they do as a whole cover relocation expenses. :-) |

Maybe your not getting a response because you're not a good applicant. I'm currently employed by URS so they obviously respond to some people. I will also negate the idea that they won't hire applicants who go through their website, in fact it is their preferred means of receiving applicants. I've referred a friend who went through the website and he too is now employed by URS. |

regardless of whether they want you or not, a courteous thing to do is send some kind of confirmation that they received your resume, but are not considering you for the position. ide personally like to get rejected then get nothing at all. |

It seems to me not uncommon to send a resume in or even to have a phone interview with a company and then receive no futher communication. I have had that experience more than I'd like! Ihave also applied online to URS and gotten no response. But I am sure top candidates get responses. David |

I read the job description for the painters job in Kaneohe, HI. The description submitter wants the applicant to use steel wool to remove paint from aircraft skin. Some one needs to inform the submitter, that this removal technique is not allowed on aluminum clad and other non ferris materials. |

You people need to quit being so lazy. Send the resume, a nice cover letter. Then follow up in 7 to 10 days and get the guts to call the HR contact at that location every day of the week. Always be polite and professional but very persistent. Get an answer! Don't shoot an electronic application and cross your fingers like a wussy. Get in there!!! |

Well I am not sure about the rest of you but I did apply online to this company and got a response in just a week and had an interview with a promised call back when they get the signed contract in their hand. |

I applied to the company and was shocked at how fast of a response I received. It was less than a week and I had a phone interview and a personal interview scheduled. I was hired in less than a month. I did everything online and never submitted a written resume but brought a few with me for the interview. I agree with some other previous comments (on the other postings) that I think they could step up their benefits but with the salary they offered me I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I feel that they are truly a professional company and the company I worked for in the past was miserable. They had great benefits, employee outings, and special perks but I had terrible pay. To me, I rather have enough money to travel rather then the company spending it all on these special events to try and make us happy. With just the short time I have been at URS, I've been able to work on many different types of projects and directly use the skills that I have learned. However, keep in mind that most corporations are out to make a profit (obviously) and in larger corporations you can be just a number, just like in larger universities. You just have to learn how to shine. |

Usually, top tier employees (senior engineers and above) will get paid relocation if they are very sought after - otherwise you won't. |

Not true, Mig. I had a relocation offer as a planner with only 2 years experience. |

I continue to read these comments and I am surprised, shocked and disappointed. I think with every company - there is the good, bad and ugly. And being hired is a competition - the best candidate is selected, just like in all other activities in life. Regarding applying at URS Corporation - The correct procedure is apply for positions via the website - as with any company, if you have an internal connection, it helps. Yes, referrals are a benefit and the bonus is substantial, however, you (as the candidate) must be a the right fit. Relocation - it depends on the position, the location and if the Hiring Manager and department are willing to pay relocation. I don't see the level of the position in play - just the related cost and responsibilities. Regarding hiring practices - "They don't hire Blacks, period" is completely false. I happen to be Black, have worked hard to get where I am. All decisions are based on related experience and skills for the position. In many cases, software knowledge, certifications and experience are required. If you don't have those tools, you are not going to be considered. Doesn't matter what your racial background is. So - healthy comments are good. Each company can learn from what is being said by others. Remember, you have worked for good, bad and ugly companies - so, your comments are jadded. |

I have worked for this company for 10+ years, the problem I see within the corporation is they dont use their resources properly, where other offices can do load sharing, they act if they compete against each other. Nepotism some of the good ole boy network, so call project managers that are not qualified underestimating work due to lack of experience. Responsiblity goes to the engineer stamping the project and of course for the same budget. Its not what you have done, its what you have done for me lately. As far as salary you have to threaten to leave to get a proper adjustment. Ive gotten a bonus one time a year ago, meeting obligations that go above and beyond what your position requires. All and all some of the environment is good, but needs alot of improvement |

The culture at URS should be compared with other large corporations, not other engineering firms. As a publicly-traded company, they are extremely conscious of their financial performance for the benefit of shareholders and much less concerned about producing exceptional work. I worked for URS for about 5 years and since I had an unusual specialization, I worked on projects with about 15 different offices across the country through interoffice work agreements. There is a reluctance to share work between offices because that means sharing revenue. I found that management differs greatly from one location to the next. Some are much more cooperative than others. I will tell you they are driven by numbers. The regional managers are always comparing one office to another and they will tell an office manager they have to improve their performance targets for billings, billable hours, booked work, and of course, net revenue. That may include telling them to eliminate payroll by a certain amount. When it comes time to cut employees, they will look at the hard numbers. Even if they have work booked ahead that will require more people, they will not hesitate to cut quickly and deep to keep the numbers up. |

URS WILL rehire you. I know three engineers who left URS, and came back. In fact, I also know a GIS specialist who left, and came back 6 months later, and then left again. They look for the best talent possible that fits the personalities of their senior leadership and managers. Don't listen to B in Chula Vista. |

If they rehire you, its to fire you 6 months later and screw you like you did them before. Kinda gotcha back. |
