I am freaking out! I just found out that I got the job at Verizon however, this morning I just found out that one of my very best friends died. Now the worst part is that his family is having his wake on the 5th of November but then they are having his homegoing on the 19th. I have no idea why its so spread out but I know they have a ton of family and friends so that may be why. Nonetheless, the first friday that the homegoing is just happens to be on the end of my first week of training. What do I do? Is it looked at to be bad if I were to leave that day early since its going to be all the way in San Diego, when the training is in Irvine. Do I tell the HR now? WHat do I do? HELP!! Please, and thank you. |

Please, and thank you. Just be honest. Approach one of your trainers and explain to them what happened. It will definitley put you behind missing a few days, I'm sure they won't be thrilled but that was an act of god. I'm in a similar situation- not a death which I'm sorry to hear about by the way but I previously worked for a police department and I got a subpeona to testify sometime in the upcoming weeks so they weren't thrilled about it when I told them but they agreed it wasn't my fault and they told me just bring the form and return to training as soon as possible. Be up front. Tell them is was completely unexpected death and being that you were very close friends your being pressured to go. Honesty is always the best policy-just keep in mind they are not going to revoke your employment or terminate you because you had a death of one of your friends but they may not let you miss a week or two to travel around. Just attend the wake it may be tough but no matter what you need your job and your income. My father passed away in September-life can be rough at the worst times. Good luck and you will be fine. |
