I am so sorry you are going through this. You are right, being positioned to be fired is the worst. The longer I hear this stuff the more I want to get out of this industry & go back to school. I'm older but it's never too late. I need to feel valued in my career and this "begging" for an entry level job is ridiculous. I would rather lean on academia to redeem my value as I'm worth more than this. . You are correct here! Over the years I saw a close relative reinvent himself a few times and part of that was returning to school in his mid-forties. I am a huge advocate of returning to college. I didnt go to college right out of highschool but had parents that badgered me about this and I graduated college at 30 years old. That college degree has opened a couple of doors for me through the years so if at all interested, just do it! |

I have a degree also but not as applicable in the business environment. I'm also older than you but it's never too late. I need the extra education to make me more competitive because I'm older. They say age discrimination is not legal but it's there. So to all of you in your 40's, wait until you're in your 50's. Big eye awakening. Everyone thinks you should take it easy and promotions become harder to compete with the younger folks. So I figure if I can get my masters I'll be a force to be recognized as a valuable player in the game. And game is what it is. |

My sister got her MBA to help her as she is in a male dominated field. It was her feeling she was being passed over due to gender.True or not, she did this for herself and I am very proud of her. |

She opened many doors for women via WSL. It could not have been easy for her at all in the 60's! As a fee appraiser I would be the only woman in the room during a class, very typical. At WSL I was amazed at not only all the female appraisers but also the opportunities. Oh it is illegal but race;gender;age discrimination still very much exists and thriving. |

Last time I checked, this was a public forum? Topics of bloggers choice could be posted and likely have created a new discussion. HMMM. Censorship in a public forum? That is rich! Interesting but not suprising screen name considering the intent is to censor. |

There are many people reading & writing information that are not from appraisal. I'm not even with WB anymore but do find this site healing when I start to feel that downward slide into feeling down & it picks me up to know I'm not alone out here. I think many people who have been laidoff recently it's too painful to blog yet. It really hurts in the beginning. I didn't want to talk to anyone when it first happened let alone go on a computer. There are many appraisers on here but we were all from the same company and the same team. Position has nothing to do with it. Just in case any originators are laidoff and looking Countrywide is hiring. Blog on here if you want to know more. I also know National City is hiring. I know these companies have had some negative comments on here but every company right now is having their share of losses and issues. Just thought I'd put it out there. |

I am not sure of your direction on that question Snoopy but you are right. A lay off is a lay off. It is how you react to the layoff is what makes the difference. One can always get another job and fortunate for us there is a separation package where other companies gladly hand out pink slips. One can not prevent the inevitable from happening and worrying about it doesnt help either, however, if you find comfort in talking here that is fine. i am just looking for a more focused group in the other blog. |

It always amazes me the power that large organizations have in the world. WB recent issuing of 2.5 billion in bonds is an example of "printing money". It's funny how so few investors truly realize the impact that a move like that should have on a company's stock price. Nov 30 (Reuters) - Wachovia Bank NA on Friday sold $2.5 billion in 30-year subordinated bank bonds, said market sources. Wachovia Securities LLC was the sole book-running manager for the sale. BORROWER: WACHOVIA BANK NA AMT $2.5 BLN COUPON 6.60 PCT MATURITY 1/15/2038 TYPE SUB BANK BDS ISS PRICE 99.792 FIRST PAY 7/15/2008 MOODY'S Aa2 YIELD 6.615 PCT SETTLEMENT 12/7/2007 S&P AA-MINUS SPREAD 220 BPS PAY FREQ SEMI-ANNUAL FITCH N/A MORE THAN TREAS NON-CALLABLE |
