So you've put in your dozen years as a dept mgr at Walmart only to have a co-worker overhear you swearing during a private conversation and upper mgmt utters the magic words: YOU'RE FIRED!
The truth is Walmart is downsizing to save costs and will stoop to every underhanded trick in the book to do it.
If they can replace highly esteemed full-time dept mgrs who make $20 an hr and full benefits, with 2 part-time, no benefits, minimum wage workers who they can claim aren't doing their job and then fire them ..... they can keep this cycle up FOREVER.
EMPLOYMENT PROTECTION laws need to be established to cover flimsy excuses employers are coming up with to avoid paying unemployment. They can avoid paying unemployment taxes by claiming MISCONDUCT. However, it is the employer's responsibility NOT the employees to PROVE MISCONDUCT.
Take it all the way to the unemployment appeals judge. Get former employees to help establish that Wal-mart condones and overlooks swearing or similar supposed acts of misconduct, like taking longer breaks.
The difference is in who they are targeting to fire. Then they line them up with their excuse list and see which one they fall into. Too bad similarly fired ex-employees can't file employment discrimination class action lawsuits against Walmart and teach them a lesson in manners.

That's why unions are good things. They give employees protections so crap like this can't happen. Do unions protect some bad eggs? Sure. But they protect far more good than bad.
