What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at Walgreens? What do you like best about working at Walgreens? Are there any great perks or special treats for employees? |

I meant "more money than them a year" lol... As for perks and such...health insurance and dental is covered after 90 days. They have a profit sharing plan...admittedly I don't really understand it completely, but everyone tells me it's good. They have little things where if your store does good on mystery shops you get gift cards. You get holiday pay on the major holidays. MGTs are hourly, normally starting anywhere from 36k-40k a year. I believe there's also a small raise annually. EXAs(the next promotion) are salary. I hear they make 45k-50k a year, plus they get a small bonus depending on how well the store performed(around 3k) Then it's store manager...no idea what they make, I'd assume it's anywhere from 65k-80k depending on the volume of the store, plus they also receive a every year based on the store's performance. EXAs and store managers work at least 48, sometimes up to 60 hours a week. So dedication is a must. MGTs work 44 hours a week(and are hourly, which is a plus). Some say it seems better to be an MGT than anything above because it's the last position before salary, but if your district is anything like mine, they don't have much interest in MGTs if they don't have the desire to be promoted. As for travel, they seem to try to keep you within an hour drive of where you live. |

Thank you collier for answering my question. I was contacted by management yesterday and officially offered the position, I start tommorow. Health benefits are very important to me, does anyone know what health insurance is offered to walgreens employees? And also, does anyone know how long it usually takes for a beauty advisor to be promoted to a higher position?

I am presently a human resource specialist but I use to manage a Dollar General Store. I am interested in the Manager Trainee Program at Walgreens. I have a Bachelors Degree in Business Management because of a bad economy I am looking for career-growth. I would like to know if the management trainee program is worth looking into. |

The positions and hours have changed at Walgreens. The assistants no longer get overtime. They cannot go over 40 hours. The job is getting more stressful as the workload increases. If you are an employee and want to get into management you must be young, and also do favors to get the position. |

been an MGT with the company for almost 8 years. walgreens is a very rewarding and challenging place to work. concerning MGTs getting promoted to an EXA or STORE MANAGER: you better be prepared to be your store manager's best friend and be in your mid 20's. this company doesn't directly discriminate; rather they encourage and gravitate towards those individuals who are younger. walgreens expectation is that these younger folks have a greater longetivity and time-commitment than their older counterparts. I truly believe that I have been passed up for promotion a few times in the past due to my age. otherwise, I consider myself happy and will continue my career with walgreens for as long as I am able to and for as long as they wish to keep me. |

Don't ya think something is wrong if you have been a Manager in Training for 8 years? I'm 29, just graduated college after a successful military career and toying around with the idea of going into management at Walgreens; however, I am not gonna tolerate 8 years as a trainee. I am thinking 2 maximum and then I want my own store and if that means I have to transfer to Alaska and a newly built Walgreens then so be it lol. |

My son did the online application for several positions. He's young but has a bachelors in liberal studies along with some AS degrees. He expressed interest in several areas. He was called in for a skills assessment, said it was long, and that it covered management questions, cashier questions, customer service, as well as pharmacy related questions. He thought is was challenging, but he enjoyed taking it. It was difficult in the sense, that based on his position, his response would be different. He found out from a friend that he got "Excellent--Highly Recommended." I guess the store has several positions due to some transfers. We have no idea what position he may be offered. Any idea on starting wages? |

There are people for have been Assistant Managers (or MGT Trainees) for like 25+ years. It's not what you know it's who you know. The company is cutting back on opening stores and it's harder to become a EXA (think of having to compete for 1 spot in your district between 100+ assistants, plus you have to get recommended from a SA and interview with your DM). Do your research before you make rude assumptions. EXA are first in-line before any MGT -- in addition, if you're at a store that gets a new store manager every years, you have to build a new relationship and learn new SA styles. Always having to make new connection with people who can determine and recommend your promotions is not easy. |

Do you really think anywhere is going to just hand you a multi-million dollar unit after 2 years with the company? Walgreens is a great place to work precisely because they don't just promote instantly. You must be willing to do everything your employees do. From cleaning bathrooms to taking out trash. Come on now you have to climb your way up the ladder from the bottom no matter what degree you have. Just talk to a recent law grad. |

Young or do favors? Wow.
I started out as a front cashier at age 38. 2 months later I was promoted to SBA ($1.50 raise). In March of 2010 I was promoted to Sims Coordinator (another $1.50 raise). In June of 2010 Sims transfered over to Store Team Lead (only .25 raise). In August of this year (2011) I applied for Assistant Manager and got the position, in my own store. Total raises? $8.30 in 2 1/2 years. I am now 40 years old. You do not have to be YOUNG or do so called FAVORS to be promoted. You have to work hard, and prove yourself. |

Many years ago, I worked for Walgreen Drugs. I started as a clerk making $2.00 per hour. My goal was Store Manager. In five years, I was above that level. Walgreen's is a great company. Every promise made to me was kept. |
