Do you work at Washington Mutual? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Any advice for someone trying to get in? |

I don't work for WAMU but I did try to get in because the VP of recruitment (Amy Johnson) sent me an email with the subject of Certified Recruiter. I guess she got my email from ERE.net. So this is how it goes...I figured I just refer my colleague (I won't go into the details why)to Amy and he got his first interview so then I was curious about the opportunity and wanted to see what they are looking for and it just good to test the market at the same time. I was scheduled to speak with a recruiter who just started about a month ago but she was great. I got a chance to speak with her and it goes good I guess I just play along and she scheduled me to speak with Heidi Nolte. The first question I ask her was what role do you play with the company and I guess I came off a little aggressive but it was a ligitimate question. We chatted regarding how many cold call to passive candidates I make and so on and then she said oh I have to answer a call and that my experience was not enough for the role they're looking for, which I think it was unprofessional while interview someone on the phone. So then I was disqualified because of that which was fine and I even say that I was open to her criticism so I can learn. We ended our conversation and Heidi even mention that I might be good for other positions with the company and will forward my resume around and that was the end of it. I think Wamu is a great organization but would I have made a move if I was entertained with the offer? Hard to stay especially I'm working for a major player in the same industry. I just heard that my collegue was entertained with the offer which is great for him. I would love to see him go because he is just not helping the team here. This is email is not to blast at anybody but my opinion about how I came across WAMU. |

I work as a teller in WaMu and it has been about half a year already. I was looking for a job over summer, but that didn't work out too well so that lead me to wamu two months later. Surprisingly, when I wasn't looking for a job, I received a call from the regional recruiter and spoke to me about the possibility of working at wamu. Two days later, my manager called me in for an interview. We spoke about the usual subjects about past experience, but mainly customer service and dealing with different people. What really got me the job wasn't in the office though. I spoke with a a new accounts representative who happened to be someone I knew from awhile back. That happened to be a coincidence because I didn't know she worked there. The manager spoke to her and asked for her opinion about the interviwee's. I ended up receiving an offer about two days after my interview. Basically, it's about who you know. You can do well at all the other aspects of getting the job, but see if you can make a connection with any of the management or tellers at the branch. Create a relationship with the people that work there because that branch will later be another family for you. Be friendly, casual, and make them see that you're easy to get along with. You get the idea, good luck with that. |

I agree that it is about who you know, which is unfortunate as they miss out on good candidates. The two recruiters I dealt with were unprofessional. They both said they would get back to me and did not. The first one said I would be a fit for other positions as well, but I never heard back from her. It's very frustrating when you are well-qualified for a position and they do not even bother to pursue you as a candidate. From what I am reading about the company in these comment sections, it looks like it really isn't my loss. |

I'm curious about Wamu. I've worked for Wells Fargo for 6 years but looking a more progressive company. Is your title Assistant Fin.Center Mgr? I've applied and would like to know the expectations the company has for that position. Also, do you think your salary is adequate for the job? |

what does it mean when the branch manager says he/she will call you in a week? Does that mean you didn't get the job?? What is it like at WAMU, if the manager likes you, can he/she hire you on the spot? |

Is it difficult for tellers to get promoted within 6 months to a year for the PFR position? I heard that as long as you could sell, then you could most likely get promoted. Is this true? |
