Is the salary for a teller negotiable? I have almost 3 years of customer service and cash handling experience. When I did the phone interview she said it was $11.54/hr. I'm trying to go for 12 or 12.50/hr. Any suggestions or success with getting a higher starting salary. |

Here is the deal - if you are considering a phone banker position just realize where you are in life and that this is an entry level position. I find Wells Fargo to be a great place to work with exceptional benefits. They emplore you to learn about diversity and are active in many different philanthropies that focus on other cultures. Benefits are best in the industry. 6% company match on 401k, 2 paid days off a year (25 after 5 years). Most importantly, in an industry filled with mis-trust and theivery, WF has done the right thing, for it's investors, customers, and employees. |

JR in San Jose, California said: I have worked at Wells Fargo for over two years now. This is a horrible job. They ride us every day for more and more sales no matter how many you get they want more. 80% of the people there go to JR. College and don't care about their jobs even though they're Psychology majors and won't be able to find another job any way. The pay is horrible and they pay really low commission, on a million dollar loan you'll only get $100 if you're lucky. I am a current Wells Fargo employee and could not agree more. I collect MILLIONS OF DOLLARS/MONTH for the crappy company and all they want is more. They pay me less than 1/2 of 1 percent of what I collect for the company, and they have the nads to give me grief every day! STAY FAR FAR AWAY!!!!!!! |

I worked at Wells Fargo for exactly 1 full year, started in August 2010 ended in August 2011. some of you say that "STAY POSITIVE NO MATTER WHAT" well, I tried. i was positive and everything, I have a bachelor's in Business Management, started as a teller (yeah, with a business degree) it's ok, im not being bossy about my degree, I was so enthusiastic about being promoted, I got promoted very fast (like in 6 months) to a Customer Service & Sales Representative (It's a position that is between a Banker and a teller u pretty much do EVERYTHING except that u don't get paid for everything) only like a $4 rise after a teller an hour. any way, my branch manager saw GREAT potential in me for being a branch manager in the near future. but it all started when they changed the new District Manager, he wanted a WAAAYYY too many sales + it was imposible to hit the goal every day if you don't game. but if you game forget about the future there because sooner or later you gonna get caught. so any way, it's only fun and OK if you are a Teller, as soon as you move UP hell begins. all you do, is think about how u gonna get those sales 24/7 (!) because they push u so much u can't even emagine, (and anyway I stayed positive about it even though I began to doubt that I will become a branch manager because It's not possible to manage all the gaming bankers) SO, BUTTOM LINE, IF YOU ARE A GOOD GAMER-SELLER (forget about financial consulting) THEN IT'S FOR YOU. you won't learn anything there ONLY HOW TO OPEN MORE ACCOUNTS FOR CUSTOMERS WHO DON'T NEED THEM....after that those customers can't manage too many accounts and GET FEES, come to the branch and screem that there are fees....THIS CYCLE NEVER ENDS. too much stress for nothing.... so, being overwhelmed ABOUT MY SALES GOALs, i approved one transaction for a teller and got fired. end of storry. it was a whole waste of one full year for me. I only learned how to fool people so they open accounts... forget abou Financial Cunsulting skills. |

Wow some things never change. I was there in '08 and didn't even last a year. Never mind about customer service, it's all about referrals, how many people you can get to sign up for credit card, loan, line of credit. The absolute WORST experience I ever had. |

Ya and If all the BS you guys just mentioned wasn't enough, they just cut off all insurance except HSA's. No PPO EPO HMO - nothing. Break an arm, 5k out of your pocket! Tax free though! :/ |

Read my "experience" just before your comment. It was a full one year of waste time for me... I'm having disgust about sales now and totally swiching my career. wells fargo just killed it for me. Only if it was that easy to find a job now. I don't want to go to Chase or other banks because the system is the same pretty much... |

I don't want to go to Chase or other banks because the system is the same pretty much... Wow. What kind of work are you looking for then? Krisit84, do you have an email? I've gone into some branches, and there's like no traffic. You could sit for 20-mins and it's completely dead. How competitive is it if there's other Personal Bankers in the same store? I'm a by the book type of person. I don't believe in convincing you to get something you don't need. I would find that kind of sales pressure to be tough.
I'm already motivated. Since they promote from within, I'd think a Personal Banker who was an internal hire would get better support as opposed to an external hire. And being an external hire could be dangerous because the tellers and Service Managers don't know you. And if they don't like you, that could make or break your job. Good service is so essential these days. Pressure to sell in a down economy is tough. Encouraging extensions of credit isn't good either. What positions are available there that are not sales pressure? |

It was the money or my sanity. They (my new supervisor and coworkers he hired) wanted me gone because Iam 58 years old.Needless to say they were all in their 20s.Couldn't do anything because my word against theirs. You did the right thing. They are a greedy bunch of sobs and have gone through employees like a hurricane. |

Wells Fargo's plan is to get their bankers to open up as many bank accounts as possible because the more accounts, the higher chance of WF making money on fees. I have been with WF for 3 years and it has been a mind blowing experience to say the least. They truly push extremely high cross sell ratios even if the customers have no need for the extra product. It's really disturbing to see such a large corporation basically taking advantage of their own customers while claiming that they want their customers to succeed financially. Don't plan on being able to sleep at night if you want to succeed at WF, you will see things that are just heartbreaking. |

I worked for Wells fargo for 2 1/2 years and it is certainly a high pressure sales job. Gaming is highly encouraged at the branch I worked at in Parker, CO even though when you go through training they tell you you will be fired for doing so. Our top teller for sales was the worst of all. I was told multiple times I needed to tell the customer only part of the info about the product- just skip the part about the fees they will get charged- it did not matter if they got mad and closed their accounts 2 days later, the branch still got credit for the sale. Its all about getting the new sale - who cares about the guy who's been with the company for 20 years. Thank God I was able to get away from this company- still in Banking but with a better company that cares more about customer service |
