you should consider working at home as a medical transcriptionist. You can either take courses online or go to your local community college and get a certificate. However, it is hard to find a job from home for new graduates. They usually want at least 2 - 5 years experience. Good luck

West sounds like a great opportunity until you go to their site and discover that they do not have jobs in your specfic state. A bit confusing as I thought they were well-known companies that are seeking seasoned professionals. Why would your geographical location matter if you are working from a home office?

A co-worker of mine told me about www.westathome.com back in April. She works for the Home Shopping Network (HSN) through them. I applied with them at the time and they just contacted me about 2 days ago saying that they are looking for more additional employees to work at home. They are suppose to contact me for a phone interview. She gets paid hourly and the company pays bi-weekly through direct deposit. As far as the geographical area of the company, I'm not sure about but she works out of Atlanta and her best friend works for Virgin Mobile also through West and she also lives in Atlanta.

Hi Brenda, I don't work for Arise, however my company hires them for telephone sales. We've had anywhere from 140 to as many as 250 agents working just on our calls.

With so many people, I have to assume that its all very worth it. I've spoken to agents that work part-time and full time just for Arise, or just part time with a regular job just for extra income because you choose your own hours.

I'm going to try and get a hold of an agent and get more detaisl for you.

Sure, keep spouting the MLM babble. I'm sure they teach you all the things to say when they're converting you. And no, I would never lower myself to join an MLM. I would not subject my family and friends to these ripoffs.

And your vacation: do you see how these companies work you over? They make you think that you're running your own company when all you doing is helping them to get rich. I have been sitting here reading these ugly posts the last few nights not wanting to get in involved but I have to. Can I just ask one question? Any one of you, especially work on a JOB? How does your company survive if they don't recruit? You keep downing MLM's but corporate America is the biggest MLM there is. Atleast in an MLM I have a chance of owning the company; on a traditional JOB, I could never be CEO yet I do all of the work and line his/her pockets and get this, I will probably never even get to meet the CEO!! Sure MLM's aren't for everyone but there are those out there who are making good extra income and having fun at what they do. I am a financial planner for a major company but I sell Cookie Lee jewelry on the side and yes! I recruit and have fun doing. I deserve a ladies night out once or twice a week. Last year, I paid cash for all of our Christmas expenses just from my jewelry business. Bosch, you need to think outside of your "small box" and understand that there are some good and bad. Give us the credit, as adults, to weed out the bad and find what works for us.

Wow Carla - you have really been drinking the MLM kool-aid too long. You're comparing corporate America to an MLM?? Are you serious? The only remote comparison between the two is that MLM's and corporate America are based on capitalism. That's where the similarities stop!

I've posted many times before that MLM's are pretty ingenious in a slimy sort of way. They are nothing more than marketing tools used by companies to have a guaranteed source of income every month. They convince their member/customers (not employees) to buy the products while at the same time recruiting other member/customers to do the same and so on.

The problem I have with MLM's is that they are presented falsely as job or career opportunities which they are not. The vast majority of people who get into MLM's thinking they are going to make money, in fact lose money (more than 99%). You don't think you're lining the pockets of the creators of these MLM's?? Please wake up! These MLM's are pyramid's. Do you have any idea what a pyramid scheme is? These schemes are presented by the thousands on the Internet as your savior: work from home, make money, blah blah blah. They are not career or job opportunities!

Thank you! And I agree that it is important to look at MLM's as a service, where the members are CUSTOMERS, not employees. My problem is that so many of these MLM's are presented as business opportunities when they are not. Although Brian and Heidi, if you are making profit from it and saving money on travel, then good for you.

It looks like this is probably a dead issue. However, I thought I would at least throw my opinion in as well. With any business, at home or otherwise, it is as much about the sweat you put in as the inspiration. Any home based business, MLMs, included will only provide you a successful income if you put effort into them. Most people fail in the perspiration department. If you expect to work 2 or 8 hours a week and make thousands of dollars, then I have some nice swamp land in Florida to sell you (don't call I'm planning on building a gator farm on it :) ). Seriously though if anyone tries to tell you that you can sit at home in your pajamas and earn $1000 and work and hour a day they are scamming you! Again MLM or not. I come from a family that has had several successful businesses and I can tell you they worked hard to build them! So here are a few of the tips I have glean from those slightly older and much wiser than myself.

1) You rarely get something for nothing. I don't know of any legitimate business where a monetary investiment wasn't required. You need to hear the pitch and do the math.
2) Real wealth comes from residual income. Truly wealthy people do not make their money by going to work every day. They make the bulk of their money from investments. These can take many shapes but generally involve some kind of investment.
3) Few get rich overnight. It often takes time to make some real money. Put together a basic business plan that contains your goals and how you plan to achieve them. Don't get discouraged if things don't click right away.
4) Be Persistent! If at first you don't succeed keep trying. Don't give up on your business at the first sign of trouble. Remember you have to "...know when the hold them, know when to fold them, no when to walk away and know when to run..." Man that was a great song!

I've seen some "legitimate" business that I would run away from fast as well. But that said there is some good information on the website link you provided. But scams only work if you aren't aware of the facts (and watching that pesky fine print). I know several people, no I'm not one of them :), that are making a lot of money doing what would be classified by the little red flag test, see website posted by Bosco, as an MLM. No, they didn't get in early, the business they market for has been around over 20 years and they have been doing it less than 5. I also know why they are good at it. They believe in the products they sell and that genuine belief convinces others, yes I do buy the products and yes I like them. I will leave it to others to judge whether such a business model is a scam or not and I will certainly admit it isn't for everyone. But if someone can make money selling a product that they believe in then so be it.

BTW, I see actors and advertisers on TV who get paid millions of dollars to convince people to use products they don't use themselves. humm...

Trust me, I know it can be a little scary getting started. What is your degree in? What kind of positions are you interested in?

Straight out of high school, I wanted to be a teacher, so I started working on my associates degree. About halfway through, I really wasn't sure if that was what I wanted, so I shuffled my classes just to get a "general" degree with my major as arts and sciences. I would LOVE to be an accountant, but I know that' very far in the future. I'm just interested in any kind of office-type work, because I did work (for the work study part of my pell grant) in one of the offices at my college the whole time I was enrolled. For one not all mlm's are rip offs. I believe in this product due to the fact that I have a family member with cancer and can hardly get things down. Just to get them to eat jello is good. Then we gave them the strips of electrolytes and it helps. It is no means a cure at all but if we get get electrolytes into her system without the struggle of swallowing then so be it.
