richerthan in California said: Sounds like a bunch of losers that don't know how to sell. Any rep that can sell can make six figures within two years at this company. This job is one of the easiest ways to make a boatload of dough I have ever had the pleasure to work for. The baby's and no talents come and go fast. The talented who get the job done everyday just keep making more and more. I could do my quota in 30 hrs a week and make well over six figures without breathing hard. NO TALENT=NO DOUGH!!! BTW, anyone who says Yellow Pages don't work is a moron and doesn't belong in any selling job. Go work at Walmart and be a clerk. CRYBABY!!!!! You're an a**hole! You have no respect for anyone else or any other industry for that matter. You're probably one of those slimy reps that'll sell a 4K add to an elderly couple knowing very well that they can't afford it. Scum bag! |

For Fun at Yellow Book in Phoenix, Arizona 14 months ago |
I would just like to say that I was at Yellow Book for 8 years. I was an AE and did very, very well at it. The problem was I felt like I was a robbing customers because they no longer were getting the ROI like they did on their progam when I first started. Calls were dropping from 60 calls a month to 10 or less calls a month. It was very sad to me. First page ads were getting 2 calls a month. I felt horrible going out there. Before I left, I sold a $30,000 program. I was excited and made a ton of money off that customer. The embarrassing part, is the job that I took after YellowBook required me to see him. I can barely look him in the eye. My customer got 4 calls a month from his 4th postion program. Needless to say, he didnt renew his program and my friend who is still hanging on at YellowBook took the hit because I left. A $30,000 hit on his numbers. I could no longer drink the YellowBook kool aid. So I left. I can say that YellowBook was an excellent place to work until the last three or so years. The Internet is so great and there are so many other companies that can sincerely help businesses generate leads. It's up to you, but I couldn't do it any more. I would like to say one thing....Once you are out of YellowBook, you will see that very, very, very few people use the yellow pages anymore. I threw my YellowBook away for the first time ever because it's information was the same that it has been for over 10 years. Same customers, same info and it's boring. With the coupons gone, I have no use for it anymore. Everything is accessible through the Internet and cell phones. Good luck if you are still there. I hope you are not too micromanaged. |

I just had a phone interview with Yellowbook. The HR person claimed she never heard of any complaint when I told her what I've read here. That just reinforced the negative facts I see here. She said the negative comments were probably just a couple-three disgruntled employees. She stated that the average salary, commission and expense allowance for a first year is between $50-$60 thousand. She couldn't give me broken out figures since that is supposedly established by the local office. I'm a seasoned professional and would not work for that amount of money (which I don't even believe to be true). So thanks to everyone who commented here. I quickly terminated the interview. |

I have been with Yellowbook for over 10 years. I have made over $100K every year. As people come and go in this job, the people who dont make it complain, dont work hard and dont last. As far as management caring about the reps, they treat you like you treat them. We came into PPC too late? I have 15 accounts that do PPC and are getting amazing results. Its a 6 month contract and they are all in their 2nd and 3rd year. As I read through these posts, whoever got screwed by YB or has favoritsm in their office, go to any job in any place. You will find that crap everywhere. I wouldnt trade the 10 years, the trips, the dinners and friendships for anything. I am honored to work at Yellowbook... |

Elyce you may still drink the Kool Aid but I assure you many people who were with the company longer than you have stopped sipping. Joe Walsh is finally out so maybe the company will get some fresh ideas but the truth is Yellowbook danced it's last Tango about 3 years ago. By the time you decide to leave (and you shall leave) you will see what all the reps that have left before you have discovered; there's life after YB . . . And it's a really good life! |

Life after yellowbook? i have been happy at every job i have ever had... i will be happy no matter where i go. i talk to reps that left. i am glad they are happy. my life is fine. glad your life is too... You're defending a company that wouldn't spit on you if you were on fire. You implied that people who leave YB or complain about the climate don't work hard. I worked hard I made my money and I left before the sinking ship sank. I was friendly with Joe Walsh and I watched upper management treat the average sales rep like crap. Not everyone is a super star but everyone is entitled to respect in the workplace. For every 15 successful pay per click accounts YB has there are 300 unsuccessful pay per click accounts and I don't make up these statistics do your homework. Your friendships and dinners maybe your social outlet but trust me when I say there's life after YB and you can make 100K with most sales jobs if you're dedicated to doing so! |

I have been in the yellow pages industry for a number of years now. I started in 1996 with Bell Atlantic. I have been with Yellow Book over 8 years now. Taking all things into consideration, it is a good company. Have there days i want to scream, or throw my computer?? Yes, but show me the job that doesn't make you feel that way sometimes. Having said that I love the people I work with and some that I have worked for.
So I say come to our company with your positive energy and something positive will happen for you. |

I have to say, definitely mixed on what I have experienced with Yellowbook. I have moved up the ladder over time, but not sure where else there is to go. It's a shame that there are things going on like the recent direct mail promotion, where some managers had their reps submit fake orders to that these managers could collect their bonuses, only to then have the reps cancel the orders. Nice. So, we're paying our bonuses, giving away iPads and other gifts and prizes, while I'm making peanuts. Hard to say I will be with a company that does these things much longer. |

I worked for Yellow Book 9 years in New York and New Jersey. I bled yellow and believed in the product and the mission. YB never not paid me for a sale. I resigned because I could not escape the fact: "it's over".
Yellow Book grew '04-'08 via acquisitions. These purchases were the nail in the coffin. They overpaid for worthless revenue that could not be converted to future business. It is a shame.... |

ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE LAND OF MAKE BELIEVE A YELLOW BOOK SALES REP THOUGHT SHE HAD 15 LIVE PAY-PER-CLICK ACCOUNTS WHEN IN FACT SHE ENDED 2011 WITH A MONTHLY AVERAGE OF ONLY 3.6 LIVE PAY-PER-CLICK PER MONTH. THE END. |

Get a grip people in Springfield, Missouri said: I would like to mention that I was never personally written up, but the pressure was horrible. Every Sunday I felt sick to my stomach all day knowing that I had to go to work on Monday. This job is no way to live life. There is no work life balance. If you work 60 hours a week or more you will be successful. If you would like to work Monday through Friday....forget about it. Your stress level will be through the roof and you will never be quite good enough for Yellowbook, no matter how well you do or how hard you try. My office went through 27 reps in a 4.5 year period...it was an office of 10 reps. They weren't trying. My old office went thru over a 100 in an 8 year period. |
