Every business has it's own style. What is the office environment and culture like at Bright House Networks?

Are people dressed in business casual, jeans and t-shirts, or full-on suits? Do folks get together for Friday happy hours and friendly get-togethers?

What is a typical day in the life of an employee at Bright House Networks?

I worked for BHN for almost two years, people are nice and company is good and great benefits. STAY AWAY from Marketing department. pretty nasty folks, demoralizing, probably the worst place I have ever worked for in twenty years. business casual, jeans every so often. it is a lot of work, good work, learned a lot. Let me emphasize stay away form marketing 17 people have gone thru that department in a years time, do the math...

I worked for Bright House Networks for a year and an half. Two wonderful friends of mine mentioned I had posted the previous ad. I need to clarify that the previous statement is not from me. I enjoyed very much working for the company and learned a lot about the cable industry. I received a lot of training and worked in a division where I was very much liked. I also made some wonderful friends in marketing. I was in the North division and towards the end of my emplyment I was based in Maitland. I have no grudges or bad feelings towards the company and enjoyed all those I worked with during my employment. I also thank my friends for letting me know about this posting, I don't like making enemies or burning my bridges. I hate to think I am being associated to comments like those above.

I can not even begin to tell you how much I HATED that company. I would not even advise my worse enemy to work there. They are all such liars. It all started when I had an interview in my desired field. I did not get this position as they claimed another person was more qualified-translation: they hired one of their favorites for the position. Due to being out of a job for almost two months, I had to take this low paying position as a Product Specialist. At the time, I was excited I got that job because I thought I would get my foot in the door and after proving myself move into where I really wanted to be. I won employee of the month, several quality moments (for calls), and was well respected by my colleagues. Yet, I spent six months applying to positions in different departments with nothing. They kept hiring all their friends. This left me feeling unappreciated and deceived. Finally, I got tired of being on the phones and took a job to get me off the phones in another department. Instead of being abused by the customers, I got abused by my co-workers. It got so bad I had to go to the higher ups and demand for the abuse to stop...and the position was still extremely low paying might I add. It was not easy to go to the higher ups because they were abusing me too. I got accused of faking the need for my bereavement time by one manager...who shall remain nameless. This hurt me worse than everything else. Why would I do something like that knowing my character? They treated me like CRAP. It was obvious to me that nothing was ever going to change, yet it took me forever to find a job at another company so for an entire year I was totally miserable. After I put in my two weeks notice, that's when my immediate supervisor started being nicer to me. I was given many hugs and advised very candidly by them to keep in touch. I was so pleased with the turn-around that I got them a gift in return and included my business cards inside of the card...

...However, a week later, I noticed that I was not paid for my remaining time off like I was supposed to be. I tried calling first this same supervisor who had practically begged me to keep in touch, with no response. I called 4 or 5 different people in HR and left messages with no response. finally, I emailed the director of HR there and threatened to contact Chris Fenger if I did not hear back from anyone this time and she responded saying I would get paid for some time and not for other time. I was and am still PISSED about that. The one person who said all that crap about keeping in touch didn't even have the decency to call me back in a dire circumstance such as this! And now I am not getting paid for all of my time like I was told I would be. I should have known better just like everyone else that works there, they are full of bull. Don't ever believe anything they tell you. They will smile in your face, tell you all the lies you want to hear, not keep any of their promises, and then stab you in the back. I have never worked for such a reprehensible, unprofessional, dishonest, unethical, unreasonable, company. Their attitude is bascially this: "We'll take care of you as long as you work here, but after you're gone, kiss our a..." They don't even follow through with that motto though. I am totally disgusted in them and will never work there again! I don't care if I get thrown out, I have no food, I look like an Ethiopian from starvation and they have the last job left on earth. I'll die before I ever work for such an unprofessional pack of wolves who can't pay their employees more than $12 an hour, but can waste thousands in one day on off-site manager meetings!

Now to answer the question: A typical day in the life of an employee at Bright House Networks depends a lot on what department you are in. I worked in the call center...so we were required to wear business attire (no jeans, t-shirts, or flip flops) Monday-Thursday. On Friday, we could wear jeans, but not t-shirts. We were not to wear clothing that was overly revealing or we would be sent home. Attendance is very strict so you better get there on time and don't call off unless it's life or death. Each person gets what's called "occurrences" after 3 of them, you get written up. Each time you call in sick, you get an occurrence. If you're tardy to work it's 1/4 of an occurrence. Sick time is viewed as a privilege and not a right. By the way, tardiness there is defined as, if your shift starts at 9 am and you login at 9:01...that's right folks, you're tardy! Phone agents have a very strict schedule adherence to abide by...all lunches and breaks are pre-planned and if you don't go right when you're scheduled it screws up your evaluation scores. CEO is very lengthy, there is much required to say to customers on the phone. The list goes on and on...there's so many rules, it's like going to work in prison everyday, another reason why I hated what I was doing. Who wants to work like that? There's no quality career in that hard knock setting. All the managers and supervisors are friends so be careful what you say or do around them. They'll be all up in your business...oh and food is not allowed on the call center floor. It's best to bring your own lunch because there's not very many places to go to eat around the Keller Rd area. And since you have no grace period for logging back in from lunch, you'll have more peace of mind if you just stay in the building. The more i write this stuff, the more I'm glad I no longer work there...good rittens!!

Reading the above posts further confirms what I have been experiencing the past year. Brighthouse has little concern for its customers or its employees. They underpay contractors, which results in sub-standard work, and then the complaints go through the roof.

Just wanted to update that my HR probs are for the most part resolved. A lot of the earlier stated things were said out of frustration and feelings of abandonment. Although I told the truth in the above posts, I was also very angry. It was just the way these events unraveled that made me upset. The problems that BHN has is basically the same as any company you'll ever work for, especially in Florida. However, writing publicly about it did not help calm the anger. At this point, I have no hard feelings against this company, its management, or my previous supervisor. They were all good to me at different points in time, just not in the way that I most needed them to be. I hope that this neutralizes things some. If I could delete some of the things written before, I would, but can't.

Misses sounds like you had a funny change of mine, my days there exactly as you described then, and yes if you work there you best abide by those rules, is a company of robocops and they dont care but to fill a quota, that's all folks. If you are looking for warm and fuzzy that ain't the place.

Hello, my name is Chris and I've been monitoring the site for a while and thought it was time for me to chime in. I've worked for Bright House going on 8 years. I started as temp to perm employee after 90 days on the phones doing customer support. To answer the Hosts' question, my expereince is that people do get together after work all the time. Friday's are jeans casual. The rest of the week is business casual.

As with many new positions, you have to pay your dues. Starting on the technical support help desk was challangeing dealing with all types of customers. But I remained motivated and focused (plus having a love for the internet and computers helped)and was able to work my way up the corporate ladder. I,ve seen a lot of people come and go but there are many people that have been here 5,10,20+ years.

I've heard over and over that Tampa pays $3-$4 more an hour than Orlando BHN does. Is that true? I hear it's cause the noc is up there.

Depends on the type of position you are applying for. I don't believe anyone is going to get rich quick. The NOC being in Tampa doesn't have anything to do with the rate of pay.

If you want to work in a Call Center environment--don't work at Brighthouse Networks. I worked there for some time and actually forgot what it was like to work at a normal place. It is run like a prison. You cannot have a personal life, make appointments, be a minute late or go out to lunch. If you need to go to the restroom you best take it 15 minutes only a week or you will hear about it. They are not legally allowed to do that but they will try and enforce it. They will use you as long as they can and take advantage of your kindness and volunteering but should you have any personal issues or get sick you will see behind their smiles and visages. Every day I thank god for my new job and supervisor. For the longest time I felt Ihad to tell my supervisor where I was going, he didn't care as long as my work was done and when I have a flat tire or running late, its not a big deal, I'm an adult. Sigh~~No one should be treated like a prisoner or a dog. Good bye and farewell Brighthouse Networks. I hated it so much I don't even use their services for a home account.

Bright House Networks is a good company to work for. Everyone is treated fairly and is expected to do the job they are assigned. If you are hired for a call center position, be prepared to work at a call center and make call center wages (~$10 - $12/hour). If you are a skilled professional (meaning you have a few years of management experience or have IT knowledge and experience) and you apply for those jobs, expect the same kind of work you would have elsewhere. I have worked for 3 different Cable MSOs and by far this is the best one to work for. I haven't worked in the BHN call center, but my brother did in St. Petersburg and he wishes he stayed after leaving because of the monotany of the calls. He says his time there was good (they brought in pizza alot) and he was paid pretty good.

I have worked for BH for over 10 years and In the past 5 years it has got very bad . They are all performance based . Your senority doesnt matter the performace based is made up of a very small percentage of your senority and a huge percentage of attendace, adhearance, monitering, customer survey and sales , I feel this is unfair because there is no way to 100% guarantee that they can make this fair to each employee it is so easy for managers to fudge the numbers here and there to rank u higher of lower, always a problem with commissions being wrong , they also reward the reps that cheat and steal from customers and the company meaning they scam customers to make a fatter commission check and the company doesnt care . And yes its like prision they say they are family oriented , never , u cant use sick time that the company gives you that you earn by being a loyal employee they seem to do everything they can u punish u for using your sick time. I have seen people have heart attacks in the call center and have a ambulance come to take them to hosp and they got a occurance for that, they nit pick EVERYTHING,the policys change day to day and only applies to who they decide they want to go after that day or week . Seems like they are trying to get rid of all the employees that have been in the company for years because we speak up and voice our opinion that we dont like policys or dont think its fair. I thought this was only happening in my office and feel that it certainly couldnt be the policy and procedures for all BH divisions and dont know who to complain to , our General Manger or vice pres doesnt care when you have a valid complaint he always replies " if you dont like your job we can find you another position or maybe another company to work for " instead of addressing the concern and issues , Its hopeless to have anyone in local divison to listen or even care . They care about $$$$$ and there bonuses , NOT employees

I am currently working for the past 2 years at BHN in Customer Care in Maitland and it has been mostly a good experience but I must admit that there is a lot of favoritism, supervisors favor certain people over others and managers definitely favor certain supervisors over others particularly if they are pretty females in customer care. The dress code is tough for women since depending on which female supervisor is in attendance the rule can vary it seems that only the female supervisors enforce their version this rule and the attendance policy is ridiculous and designed to hurt you not help you, and seems to be the only one they have in place since there isn’t an employee handbook to reference. I don’t think that the supervisors are the problem they are just as frustrated as the agents are, the managers on the other hand are a completely different story. Anyone who has worked in Customer Care will immediately know who I am speaking about without mentioning a name, but if you don’t we can call him the weasel because he is always sneaking around. This manager is either your best friend or a total nightmare there is no middle ground, and since he is extremely partial to slim trim attractive girls that rules out most of the center, this guy goes around the center having these girls calling him daddy and he really looks out for them. He makes stupid and racist comments but he isn’t considered a racist since he has 3 black friends in the office. Although people have complained about his comments, and conduct to HR there has yet to be anything done about it and I doubt that anything will, again because of favoritism.

They just terminated a supervisor in a really messed up way, because everyone in the call center knew that this guy was being targeted by the “weasel” for a long time just because he doesn’t like him. I have actually overheard the “weasel” make comments to some of his supervisor on the floor about how much he can’t stand this guy. His problem with the super

Wow...I haven't worked there in over 2 years and things are still so much the same! That's too bad. I think I know who you're talking about when you say the "weasal." In customer care, I remember there only being one male manager...and his name still vividly comes to mind. I had no idea that he's racist. I do recall him being very sly though. He would sneak around and spy on my team and I too even tho we reported directly to one of the managers. In any case though, I'm not in touch with anyone who works there anymore and this is interesting to see.

I agree with the previous comments about Brighthouse. I have worked for this company for one year now and am currently looking for something else. The things that go on here are really unprofessional and need to be looked into. This "weasel" that people keep referring to is creepy to say the least. He sneaks around all the time and from the rumors in the office, seems to have a very "personal" relationship with some of his female supervisors. Again, these are rumors so who knows. I do know that he is indeed very creepy and cannot be trusted. There is an extreme amount of favortism that goes on with this company. Upper management does nothing about it because they are all friends as well. It is really quite nauseating. Not only is this job horrible, but on top of that we are micromanaged and treated like we are in preschool. The employees are in no way appreciated but of course we are expected to do an "awesome" job for the customer all the time. It doesnt matter if the customer is screaming like a maniac and calling you every name in the book. We are supposed to be robots and not let it affect us and do what they say anyways. Its gotten really out of hand overall. The customers already know that if they yell, curse, and whine enough they will get what they want anyways. They forgot that on the other line is a person too. I am tired of sitting around seeing all these supervisors gossiping about stupidities and joking around, while the there are 100 calls waiting and the agents are taking calls non stop. But of course, God forbid you take a 5 minute break to calm down. You will hear about it eventually. A good group of supervisors/managers would jump on the phones to help if the company calls are so backed up. I understand if they were doing actual work but they don't. And that is the reason they like their position. So they can be lazy and do nothing all day. People in this call center seem to brown nose their way to the top & look down on others. IT IS HORRIBLE!!!

And in reply to Arnandos post, yes they were plotting to get rid of this sup for months. They pulled out all the dirty tricks in the book to get rid of him and in the end, he got let go for something that he tried to help a certain female sup with. Of course, this was all planned. You see this sup is weasels favorite girl... I really wonder if they have a soul. It is very pathetic and sad the things that these girls and this thing called a man are doing for a call center job. Give me a break. Its really not that important. Get a life. Meanwhile, Im moving on. PATHETIC!

Yea I would like to add a caveat to that, I work in the tier 3 tech support/in every type of call that comes in..Iv been working there for 2 years and started doing outages in dispatch but we got a new president and new directors and they attemped to revamp our division and i have a tantilizing idea that we are on the brink of being outsourced all together.. they upgraded all nodes to support docsis 3.0 and i really dont feel like that will give the share holders the numbers they think it may bring..alot of what i see is DIRECTLY associated with the company as a whole trying to cut down numbers so they look better for corporate, its so blatently obvious its disgusting. Although i would like to keep my job because i make just enough not to leave my position. As i realize im only a small "pawn" and im sure all cable companies are just as greedy but i wouldnt be complaining except the situation is getting worse. It's hard to express when directors literally think they know everything..and instantly invent solutions with no real foresight in mind while i personally never engage them because i want to keep my job they always send out accuseatory blanket emails with the tone like they literally know everything and while i like some of the directors attitudes most are just acting as insulation with their salaries and bachelors degrees and arbitrary solutions and circular reasoning. The worst part is HR is SOO disconnected they would only polish the poorly made ideas presented by the people that are in a higher pay scale, and this isnt bright house this is just how the world works. Bright house is DETERMINED to use contractors to save money, contractors only cause problems the only benefit is they are cheaper for the company.. i think they are on a downward spiral and trying to milk the cash cow for as long as possible, then once theyve outsourced everything all that will be left is to sell. If you can't see this you can't see anything, all I can do is shutup and do my job

ByeBye, BHN in Tampa, Florida

There's nothing typical about Bright House Networks, especially in the News division at Bay News 9. If that division is representative of BHN, then everyone should just get their tin cup out and remain on the street to beg. It will be a more pleasant experience. I worked in the news division in St. Pete. It started out feeling great, people were nice, managers were encouraging, but it didn't take long for all of that and the entire newsroom culture to change. At the end of 2011 everyone I worked with was miserable and I couldn't wait to leave. Three years prior to leaving, as an experienced applicant, I was told by my manager that he would encourage me and expect me to move up. That never happened. I am a very loyal person and gave 100% every day, going above my normal duties to contribute to the news product. I volunteered to take on extra tasks, too. The first time I applied for an open position I was completely ignored and never even got an interview as an internal candidate for a position where I was highly qualified! No, instead, I believe the managers there feel very threatened and they did a good job of keeping me and others down. Newsroom managers were very young and inexperienced in handling their charges. The annual performance review process is grossly one-sided. Filling out the self-review form is pointless. Perhaps the biggest caveat I can give anyone is the fact that the news division requires everyone to sign a 3-year contract (you have to pay to get out of it), even low-level employees. It includes a non-compete clause, which is absurd, especially for low-level employees...why, especially when they are paid below industry standard? The one good thing about working for Bright House is the benefits. Compensation is not very good, but the health benefits are among the best I've ever had and you do receive free cable that includes all the premium channels and a hefty discount for on-demand movies. Whoopee. So glad to go!

I have worker for BHN for 15 years. I started as an Installer then went to be a Service Tech onto an Install Lead. I now work in the call center and have earned the privlige of working at home.. It took me a almost 2 years to get used to not being outside in the elements. Yes they are demanding in the call center as far as production & punctuality. But at the same time the compensation is worth the demands. My husband was diagnosed with Colin cancer approx 3 years after I started working for BHN, the medical insurance was so encompassing there was very little stain on our house hold budget to pay the bills.
Nothing is the same as it used tobe. When I started with BHN we were Time Warner and here in Pinellas County we were 500 employees. Now we are 3,000 in our office. We have grown very fast. There have been growing pains. I have had to take FMLA for phemonia. No problems from management. I had the time accumulated from my years of service.
My typical day is walking to a room in my home, logging in &working for the day. I do go to the office 1 day every 2 weeks & work for the day. if one does their job as a responsible person you are left alone & treated as an adult.
Yes I have had my grievances but when I talk to others who work for other companies I find BHN is outstanding
Our benefits surpass most. I have worked for many other companies in my life (I am no spring chicken) BHN is by far the best. I would recommend for everyone to apply at our website. Brighthouse.com

I live just up the highway from the Auburndale cc. Seeing what my brother-in-law went through at that place convinces me that I do NOT want to even think about working there. Apparently he had a female supervisor who was an utter piece of work. She literally tortured him. I'm not going to go into too much detail, but those of you who have worked in QA in Auburndale might know who I mean.

I worked for Time Warner NOC and than when it became BHN at the main Florida NOC in Brandon on South Pauls Avenue services Hillsborough, Pinellas and Tri-County area's for several years. Tampa market is the first to have road runner, VoIP, on demand and main digital services in the country, which I use to be proud to say I was apart of. To date, I am ashamed to have my name associated to this company, they provide terrible service for the well underused backbone they have, terrible pricing for the poor service and quality of. They require you to have basic to digital tier package in order to watch anything, which means in short, if I only watch HBO, Showtime and Starz, I still have to pay for their basic tier at minimum. They say's it is "Required" which is a bold face lie. The DHCT (your cable box) can be setup to only accept the channel line the package that is installed on it offers. So, if I only wanted premium channels and not the junk commercial channels, it is very easy to do. Point of fact, the FCC and legislators are working to mandate this be an option for all digital T.V. customers, stay tuned.

In short, they over charge for poorly supported services and because Tampa/St. Petersburg is the proverbial everything new "test" market, you are overcharged when you shouldn't be.

BHN, I'm ashamed of you, I'm ashamed of what I did for you, I'm ashamed of how you treat your customers, your greed, your lack of quality service when there is so much opportunity to provide fair services for fair prices.

I'm not a disgruntled, I'm proud of my accomplishments at the NOC but I'm so saddened to see such a company go to ruins. Once Verizon/AT&T can reach their fiber services to all homes, you will have no choice but to lower your costs, but until then, you monopolize your customers and that isn't fair. Considering especially the economy, the Newhouse family and senior leaders are greedy a holes, period.

All the people on here complaining about how terrible it is to work for BHN should take a look at their work productivity. ANY JOB YOU GET IS GOINT TO HAVE favoritism, bad co-employees, bad supervisor/managers...... its called life!!! Also you claim the customers are abusing you...... hello!!! You work for a call center, where you get calls from unhappy people. And last time I checked 10$-12$ an hour is pretty damn good considering the economy and lack of experience of new hires. Minimum wage here is FL is around 7.50.... so anything over that should takin in consideration and should be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also last time I checked when your hired for ANY JOB, AT ANY COMPANY you are hired to do a job... A JOB. Not go out with friends, not take a free 10 min break to the bathroom, not wear jeans, again your paid to do a job. Nothing else should matter! I do not work for BHN but from what I hear, it sounds like any other job in the world.

I have applied for multiple jobs with the company in the past 18mo. I have many years of experience in the cable industry and the education as well, I'm actually working on my BA.

I don't get why I haven't even been called for an interview with all the experience I have. It leads me to believe that BHN does not hire through there web. if that's the case why even post on it??

To respond to this even though the post is old, yes they do hire from their website because I applied and after getting two emails one welcoming me which looks automated and the other one with links to take a simulated call center test and typing test, they called me two days after I did my tests. So yeah they do.

I have to agree because my last job it was all performance based. The Supervisors were nice but at the end of the day if you didn't do good you would get fired. I never got fired but the company closed down so we got layed off. I've been a b h n customer and I applied because their customer service reps have always helped me out and based on price it's the best service in my area. BHN seem to want to be number 1 and you can tell by customer service they provide. I'll let you know once I get the job how thinks really are.

I've always been the type to do my job and not waste time and mingle so much with other coworkers so when I get a job at BHN it'll post here how things are. I do not agree however that the start training a month after you get hired.
